3  Bitcoin / Pools / Eligius - eu balances, current problems, the future of the pool on: July 04, 2011, 03:35:10 AM
OK, there are probably quite a few Eligius users in a similar position to me.

I was getting close to 0.33 payout threshold on s3 before the current woes, and still have just under 0.5 tied up with the .eu issue, so I'm short about 0.8 btc right now and starting to wonder if I'll ever see anything from this. Outstanding eu balances were to be transferred thurs, now when we find a block, only it's been days and no block found - probably due to poor uptime. Just how much btc is this guy sitting on?

Eligius is/was my pool of choice due to its simplicity and artefact2's work but currently my GPUs are pointed elsewhere, and as much as I like Eligius, I am not sure I'll go back. I expect that by now many of Eligius' miners are happily working away for Slush or whoever, getting their rewards, and they too will need some convincing to go back.

The way I see it, Luke should send ALL outstanding balances from both eu and s3 immediately. Yes this may have to be done manually and be time consuming, but something has to be done to restore the community's faith in the pool.

When the pool comes back up I will probably point a few m/h at it, see how reliable it is and reassess from there.

What will you do?
4  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius: Update on Europe final payouts on: July 03, 2011, 07:09:30 AM
Thanks for the update.

Between the delay in eu payment and the site suddenly going down, I was starting to think the worst...

Still waiting for my unpaid rewards from EU - any updates?

Same here...?

box 1, 6950 card = 334 m/h @ 875/1315/factory voltage   Auto fan, 61 degrees   Shaders locked
box 2, 6850 card = 185 m/h @ 875/1200/factory voltage   Auto fan, 55 degrees

can squeeze a little more out of both cards, but at these settings both machines are still very responsive for desktop use

also considering unlocking the 6950, but heard mixed reports re success with my card so am unsure...

another .eu user patiently waiting, not that i had a massive balance anyway...
have started receiving btc from s3 though  Smiley

Good work on the new box!

EDIT:
Not so sure about the new box......!!!

Was getting close to a 0.33 payout on s3 before the current woes, and still have just under 0.5 tied up with the .eu issue, so I'm short about 0.8 btc right now and starting to wonder if I'll ever see anything from this.

I am in the same boat, bit of a pain in the ar$e to get started, and my GPU aint exactly fast so mining is probably costing me money!

bitpiggy is down, mtgox seems like the only place around that wants my $AUD
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Printing bitcoins? on: June 17, 2011, 02:22:26 AM
If people started printing btc, it would effectively become 'real' currency in the eyes of big brother.

And then, I think they'd start working a lot harder on getting rid of btc - something none of us want

Hi, I would appreciate a jump start on the whole 50 post thing.

I really want to find a source for small quantities of btc, and note many of the regulars here mention selling from time to time.

Cheers!

Yeah it's volatile, yeah it's high risk, from an investment sense, but hey - it's life can be like that sometimes

and who knows, btc might actually take off, and how often do you get to be among the first at something!
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: total newbie here just signed up on: June 17, 2011, 12:39:33 AM

Ok, noob here, can't PM, can't post much, but i wanna buy a small qty of btc and don't really wanna mess around with gox et al....

what's a noob to do?
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions (Please discuss forum policy here.) on: June 12, 2011, 01:52:48 PM
So basically this newbies forum is going to be just a large group of people who are new to this bullshitting each other until...[snip]...they reach 50 posts?

just curious, is anyone actually reading the 50 posts?

just saying it wouldn't take long to knock out 1 word replies to anything and everything, attaining the desired 50 quite quickly.

as a noob, slowly working my way to the 'other side' i reckon there has to be a better way - i have absolutely no idea what better way that might be though, sorry!
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Future of Bitcoins as a legitimate currency on: June 12, 2011, 01:43:56 PM
The question is how to get the masses to use it...

if btc survives over the next 6-12 months, it will grow. due to the potential for creative use, certain governments will do what they can to stop btc, but there will be safe hosts, somewhere - just look at tpb, leaks, etc etc...

what we need for greater acceptance is that legitimate businesses start accepting btc. unfortunately there is no way for them to use this as cashflow. there are obvious difficulties with converting back to local currency, especially in any volume, so i think this would require a big leap of faith, from a business perspective.

how many btc users own businesses, and would be prepared to accept this as payment?
