1  Economy / Service Discussion / WARNING: coins-e DOGE_BTC pair has ask/bid orders flipped on: January 19, 2014, 11:36:18 PM
Hello,

Coins-E seems to have its bid/ask orders flipped for the DOGE_BTC market (the highest bid rate - lowest ask rate is positive!).

If you compare https://www.coins-e.com/exchange/LTC_BTC/ with https://www.coins-e.com/exchange/DOGE_BTC/ you'll see what I mean. I had a close look at the API and even the auto-complete buy/sell javascript automatically fill in the wrong rates by default.

Either that or I'm stupid and goofed. Can anybody confirm this?

3  Economy / Trading Discussion / Earning Reputation for a New Exchange on: January 18, 2014, 09:14:27 AM
I'm thinking of starting a bitcoin/altcoin-only exchange with some advantages over most other exchanges (for example, lower rates). Now I'm no fool - I know that people have been scammed in the past from exchanges that run away with the wallets or get hacked and be unable to pay back customers.

How do I gain the trust of the bitcoin/altcoin community? Is the best way to get started to simply offer promotions like "no-trading-fees-for-the-first-week", and wait for word-of-mouth by customers who make small successful transactions?

Also, are there resources on how to avoid the failures of previous exchanges?

Will tip in BTC or DOGE for a good answer. Post your BTC/DOGE address if you think you are eligible

The idea you have is not a bad one - rather than investing in mining hardware that takes days to arrive, just do it "on the cloud".

But be careful - you can't guarantee the person running the mining hardware will be around to service their machine constantly. What if they take a vacation and their Internet connection is interrupted and the mining program crashes? Or what if they are evil and just run away with your money?

Especially when it comes to Bitcoin, never trust people unless scanning reddit  shows that they are probably trustworthy.

Your best bet would be to use a trusted site to mine with "mining contracts", like ghash.io. In light of recent 51% attack paranoia, maybe it's better if people stay away from ghash.io but I'll leave it up to you to find a trustworthy seller of mining contracts.
