1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Was Robbed Over 1200 ETH at Gunpoint a Week Ago on: June 22, 2018, 08:36:03 PM
Learn From My Mistakes!

Around August 2016, I took a 2 week vacation to a certain East African country. At the end of my trip, I visited a School for the Deaf and the Blind and donated foodstuffs and clothing. A month ago, I decided to go back and see how the kids in the school were fairing. Things went very well and I had the chance to address them on cryptocurrencies and other emerging technologies. Before departing, I donated 20 ETH to the school for the construction of 2 additional low cost classrooms that would accommodate 30 students each. Tx Hash ( 0x71137cd92f47588a7f034b1b91b80b752174946fea00ca70a1a885ccd3a64ee4 )

How I wish I had converted the ETH to fiat before donating or ignored the whole donation thing altogether. On 11th June 2018, at around 7pm, just a day before my departure to Denmark (home country), I requested a taxi to take me to the movies. Seems there were gangsters trailing me. 20 minutes after boarding the taxi, a silver car blocked us and we (taxi guy and I) were kidnapped at gunpoint by around 5 hooded men who called me by name. At that moment I knew it was a set up. The taxi guy was let go a few minutes later, around 5kms from the scene. I was blindfolded for the next 2 hour or so journey and I ended up in a well furnished house surrounded by mean looking guys brandishing Kalashnikovs.

Their leader then demanded that I transfer the 1218 ETH remaining in my wallet ( 0x33dFc93619f9D0eD2b48714bA2e5268741Ae815B ), Tx Hash: 0x1f7cdef3f6caa5291f5e497f1e16bd9cd6be9579d024fd5d65b56ddfc3774d11   to this address: 0x1363E2E4EaC1e5ffed881353263415EF1B3657E4.

Things got worse when I appeared to hesitate. I was beaten up mercilessly till I agreed to transfer the ETH. I was later dumped at a quarry in the middle of nowhere at around 4am with no phone and just $50 that they gave to me. I found my way out of the quarry and bumped into a good Samaritan who took me to a nearby police station to report the matter. I have also reported the case to the Dannish Consulate here and they have been very helpful. Luckily I didn't sustain any serious injuries

It seems after I made the ETH donation, someone or a group of people checked out the sending ETH address and saw the huge amount of ETH balance that I had in there. I believe that's when the plan to rob me was hatched. If you are sending ETH to someone who knows you personally, it's safer to transfer from an exchange wallet. This will ultimately prevent them from knowing your real ETH balance. If there are better ways, kindly share them in the comments.

Police are currently questioning the board of the institution where I made the donation for links to the robbery. A week ago, the school sent me 1 ETH to show their sympathy for what I had gone through. Don't know who to trust on this planet anymore. Humans are evil and can do anything to obtain your hard earned cash.

PS: I made this post to open your eyes guys but if you feel like sending me something to help me get back on my feet again, here are my addresses:
