1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Where can I buy silver/gold with BTC? on: January 13, 2015, 06:45:15 PM
Pay us a visit at www.ShinyBars.com! ShinyBars is a small business who has been accepting BTC, LTC and Doge for over a year. We have a decent selection of silver/gold and competitive pricing. 95% of orders ship within 2 business days. Currently we ship to the U.S., UK and Canada.

why is shinybars.com no longer accepting FIBRE?

We are still optimistic about the future of fibre. With that said, after having it on the site for quite some time we had zero purchases with fibre. The pricing scripts on the back end were hogging resources for no benefit. Additionally there is little to no liquidity in the fibre market and we suspect that there will be little spending of fibre given the recent decline.

Despite the FIBRE price being down, liquidity is quite good at this point! Because of this, our spread has been cut in half to 5%. Keep up the good work and we'll get this down to 0% as it currently is with BTC! Now get some gold and silver with your Fibre...

There is another pair of coins that was quite a different but somewhat similar scenario. Anyway, the original plan was for them to create a new coin and exchange for the current holders of their existing coin. For whatever reason they chose to create the new coin and keep both coins which resulted in the first coin being basically worth nothing. This is not to say that it will change in the future, but as of this moment, I am a bagholder of the original coins. With that stated, the devs and the team of the said coin are good people, with a good "mission" but in my opinion their "vision" was flawed and not well thought out.

Yin/Yang tried to switch to Harmony - it was a disaster.  But those guys weren't nearly as developed or communicative as the Fibre devs.  So while I see the similarity, I don't think that the instance is analogous.  Still worthy of note though...

I'm not familiar with Yin/Yang but rather am referring to BST/BSTY. If it were my decision I'd focus on Fibre, continue to do good things, create an elite community and not look back. As mentioned before, build value in Fibre as it currently exists and the money that is required to fund things like BlockCypher will come...

I am in agreement with WhiteNotWright. In my opinion, a new coin is not the way to go. Why not simply focus on FIBRE? Get to marketing, create buzz, continue to innovate, garner ideas from the community and implement. Any amount of effort that is focused on another coin will take away from FIBRE. If you build value in FIBRE, the money will come....

There was a slight delay in launching the payment method but it's up and running now! Now you can get your gold and silver with FIBRE. Well over 50% of ALL of our sales come from the BTC community....lets change that.

EDIT: It should be noted...support goes beyond acceptance at ShinyBars.com, there also exists a rather full ShinyBars.com FIBRE wallet...

Shinybars, my only question is, 1oz of gold is about 1250$, but when bought with fibre, the price is near to 1550$. I understand you need some extra, but 20%+ is a bit too much if you ask me...
The bitcoin price is very atractive, so because of this, i would buy much faster with bitcoin than fibrecoin, saving 300$.

I await your answer Smiley
They are taking a risk on accepting fibre. 5000 year old currency vs. A 1 month old one. I think they deserve the right to a large buffer.

Pyeah but still, currently when a coin is received it can be sold directly for us dollar. Maybe this percentage of 20% gets lower over time as the liquidity of Fibre increases.

You nailed it on the head, until liquidity exists, we have no choice but to create a buffer. With that said, we aren't the typical merchant who simply dumps for usd. We are a top 20 holder of Fibrecoin, a top 80 holder of VTC and have some BTC as well. Our checkout process for both VTC and FIBRE consists of sending the coins directly to a wallet rather than an exchange/gateway.

As liquidity comes to the market premiums will be reduced on the Fibre side. No liquidity=no cashflow so we are taking quite an initial risk by accepting this. Upon checking the exchange this morning, I see that liquidity is already improving...

EDIT: In addition to the above, given that Fibre is quite new, we don't really expect large $ value purchases but rather higher premium, 1oz and fractional products.

ShinyBars.com

Up until this moment we have been silent supporters of FIBRE! After some deliberation, we have decided to start accepting FIBRE for our products. If you are not familiar with ShinyBars, we sell gold and silver bullion, coins and collecting supplies! We have been in business since April 2013 and have experienced substantial growth due to our acceptance of the core crypto's (BTC, LTC and Doge). Along the way we have done business with VTC, BST, FTC as well other alt-coins so we are not new to the crypto world.

The success of FIBRE will depend on adoption, innovation and liquidity (among other things). Innovation seems to be moving forward, adoption is starting to kick off, liquidity is quite low (good in some ways, bad in other ways). We are proud to support what seems like a fantastic coin/dev team and hope that the community continues to drive this altcoin forward to success. It is our hope that adopting the coin will help to contribute positively towards this project.

The countdown begins to launching the payment method at: 6:30pm Eastern Standard Time!

Up until the time that the payment method is launched, you can browse our inventory, priced in FIBRE in real-time by changing the currency selector at the top right of the website to "Fibrecoin"

Regards,
Josh

EDIT: We currently ship to the U.S., Canada and The United Kingdom

As a user of the GlobalBoost Social Dashboard I must say it is absolutely fantastic! It allows for efficient social media marketing and saves us several hours a week. Time that is valuable and better used elsewhere in the business. Thanks GlobalBoost for the dashboard and for supporting our Veterans! It will be exciting to see the new yescrypt release and it has me curious.

Now accepting GlobalBoost (BST) as of 7/6/2014!

ShinyBars.com is a small U.S. based precious metals retailer who currently ships to U.S. customers only. We offer very competitive premiums and ship your orders FAST! We sell what we have and offer what is on the way. A large number of dealers continue to oversell their products and leave customers with extremely long shipping times without providing any type of notification ahead of time. We think this is wrong and work to fill the voids in the precious metals market.

Payment Options:
We accept Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Vertcoin, GlobalBoost (BST), credit cards/paypal and checks!

Anyway, thank you for looking! Please come on over and visit us! We welcome any feedback you have to offer!

Happy Stacking,

I just noticed that you all are out of D.C. I'm not far away (Linden, VA) so perhaps we can catch up for a beer sometime. I've been pondering what you have going on, and aside from the charitable aspect of what you are doing, directly integrating a crypto with a business/organization really is an interesting and innovative idea. I will join you all in IRC sometime...

Thanks!

Thank you for the response and it will be interesting to see how this develops. I work multiple jobs already, otherwise, I would be interested in talking about a higher level of involvement in your organization. So, for the moment, I will mine away until I have a decent stash of BST's. If you all make something of it, I will gladly donate some holdings back to the organization. As development continues, and useful advancements are made to really push this project forward, I will gladly form some official association between BST and my company and offer some level of marketing for free. I have done this in the past for "Operation Ward 57" (http://www.operationward57.org/)

EDIT: Ohh and thanks for the shout-out on twitter!

EDIT2: I will be around to offer any comments/suggestions that pop up in my head. If you have any questions or require assistance on your end, feel free to shoot me a message and I'll do the best I can do!

I would be interested in knowing more about the future plans for this coin. Obviously, with the advancements in crypto coins, this one would need to keep up with such advancements to remain viable even for the stated goals/mission of BST. Beyond development, I would also like to know more about what exactly is going to be done in regards to Veteran assistance, etc. and how it will be proven to the public that the said statements regarding Veteran assistance are actually going to come to fruition.

I am the founder of ShinyBars.com (A Registered SDVOSB) so the mission of this coin certainly strikes an interest. In fact, my miner is hashing away as we speak. With that said, it looks like there is little to no interest from the mining community at the moment...is there any promotion being done to attract miners? I feel like a lone Veteran solving the majority of BST blocks at the moment with my 5.7Mh/s rig!
17  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ShinyBars.com | Now accepting bitcoins for Gold & Silver Bullion! on: February 25, 2014, 02:29:31 AM
Thank you all for your business and we are glad you are pleased with your orders! We are still excited about being a part of the Bitcoin movement and realize that it was a fantastic decision to do so. Orders paid with BTC are now the majority for ShinyBars.com. In fact, you all are ordering as fast as we can replenish supplies. With that said, we are working on securing a second round of investment and will be able to expand our inventory over the coming months. Please keep an eye out for more gold, junk silver and who knows what else. We are very responsive to requests so if there is something you want, let us know and we will try to procure it at the best premiums possible! Again thanks and keep-a-stackin'!

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why Bitcoin will win ... the speed of credit cards with the cost of cash on: February 11, 2014, 02:33:04 PM
Just one example.  http://shinybars.com/t/paymentoptions

Simplified you have three options:
CC = fast + 3% more expensive
"Bank stuff" = slow + 3% cheaper
Bitcoin = fast + 3% cheaper

Thanks for posting this as an example! We at ShinyBars.com are to the point where we prefer payment in bitcoins over any other payment method that we offer. We use low speed confirmations so it takes about an hour to fully confirm and we are confident in the confirmed transactions. There are fee's associated on the merchant side, however, it is only $30 a month(regardless of the amount of transactions)+a miniscule 0.01% transaction fee. So for every $100k worth of bitcoin transactions there's only $40 worth of fee's (in a month). Bump that to $500k and there's only $80 worth of fees. Compare that to CC's and you are working with at least $3000 and $15,000 respectively. Imagine what that does to consumer prices in the retail world.

There was mention in this thread regarding grocery and or other retail stores having a 3% margin and eating credit card fees. This is a slight misunderstanding as the fee's are not necessarily realized by the businesses. The fees are instead baked into prices, usually on an average cost basis, and thus punishing cash consumers with the expected credit card fees. Less credit card usage=less fees=lower prices overall.

One final comment, there was mention that bitcoins are not backed by anything....well in reality no modern fiat currency is backed by anything so we have to ask, what is the difference really? In the USD world, money supply is controlled by "people" whereas in the bitcoin world, money supply is controlled by code, written by "people". So, it is in my opinion that bitcoin will be here to stay and be successful for a long time. As regulation and more "people" become involved, it will potentially face the same demise as any other fiat currency. So, it is my ultimate conclusion that if you are concerned about your money not being backed by anything, whether we are talking USD, BTC, or whatever currency you use, visit ShinyBars.com, get rid of your un-backed money by purchasing hard assets such as gold and silver! :-)

EDIT: It should also be mentioned that if merchants want to accept bitcoins, but doesn't necessarily want bitcoins, Bitpay allows you to instantly convert the payments to USD and sweep to your bank account. You can also set a pre-determined amount, in percentage of how much USD and/or BTC you want in each transaction. This allows us to adjust how much BTC we want at any given time. So, for example, a large percentage of current transactions go to BTC while the price is down, IF BTC goes back up to say $750, we will adjust to all cash and purchase inventory/equipment with our appreciated bitcoins. This allows for a bit of diversification away from our gold & silver inventory market risk. Processors such as Bitpay allow for company's to accept bitcoins, even if they don't like the concept of them.

Now with near-realtime bitcoin pricing listed on each product page. We are working on providing an estimated bitcoin total on the shopping cart page as well. We say estimated because our feed is slightly delayed so the actual total might be a little different once you get to the bitcoin transaction page.
