1  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: trezor or ledger nano for a beginner ?... on: August 22, 2018, 12:14:27 PM
As a relative newbie myself (received my first satoshi ten days shy of one year ago), I decided to get a cold storage wallet myself a few months in. I read several online reviews, watched some user review videos on YouTube, and looked at the prices and features.  In the end, I opted for a Trezor.

Funny thing is that the one feature that tipped the scales for me - to this point has been something that I've never even used. The Trezor device apparently also doubles as a password manager, but so far I haven't set up or used that feature.  Regardless, I am very happy with my decision strictly from the crypto wallet standpoint.

The thing is, there seem to be just as many (if not more) people happy with their choice to buy a Ledger Nano. I have never used one myself, so I am not going to knock it. I think the key in your case is to get something which is more secure than where you are currently storing your cryptos. Either Trezor or Nano (or several other options) is better than nothing at all.

Then after several months of using my Trezor, I decided to get a steel recovery seed wallet and got rid of the handwritten cardboard recovery seed card.

Whatever direction you ultimately decide to go - Good luck!

Unlike RustyBits, I have never used Trezor myself, but I'm a happy owner of a Ledger Nano S and agree that having a cold wallet (either Trezor of Ledger) is way better than keeping your coins online.
2  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Increasing crime rate ?? What caused it? on: August 22, 2018, 11:44:11 AM
Crime would reduce dramatically if everyone was above the poverty line.  The majority of crime is from lack of money and desperation.  There has been a lot of support for a Universal Basic Income recently so that may help to solve this problem.

But if someone was elevated by UBI above the poverty line and spend all their monty on drugs, they would be right back in poverty.

Depending on how the UBI injected cash into various parts of the population, drug street prices would adjust to that extra cash.

I agree that poverty is the root of evil, but the poverty and crime problem might not be solved by government assistance/support to the poor people.
If you want to know what I mean, check out the failure of government-sponsored housing in the documentary that was an eye-opener to me, "The Pruitt-Igoe Myth." If you have watched it, then you know it.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To HODL or not, this is the question on: August 22, 2018, 11:24:28 AM
The question isn't to HODL or not; the question is what to HODL, and what not. If we are talking about BTC or ETH, the answer is obvious: yes, HODL and as looooong as it takes to win. Speaking of alts, I don't know... It's a matter of taste. I, for one wouldn't hodl'em under the market like this.

I totally agree. The only option under the circumstances is hodling and only either Bitcoin or Ethereum.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They want you to panic :-> on: August 22, 2018, 10:53:04 AM
I don't know whether they (whoever they might be, 'whales' of whatever you name them) want us to panic, but there is a vague feeling of manipulation in the air. I mean, there are lots of blockchain-backed projects around and there are lots of them to come, yet, the price of major crypto goes down, which is unexpected. So, I'm not panicking and I'm ready to hodl, but I'm not sure about a lot of other guys who have recently joined the cryptomarket. They might experience the effects of FUD and a resultant desire to sell their coins asap. Hopefully, they find this blog and don't make a mistake Cool
Keep hodling, guys!

science is moving, while religion is staying;
science is knowing, while religion is believing;
science is developing, while religion is stagnating, etc.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where should I keep my bitcoins? on: August 22, 2018, 01:00:18 AM
Ledger Nano S works best for me. Highly recommended.
Don't worry about going online with it Cool

Personally I trust and use Ledger Nano S. Some people say very good things about Electrum, but I never used it, so cannot tell you anything to that effect.

The question is 'What coin do you have?'
If it's Bitcoin, then HODL. Period.
Should you have other coins, I'd recommend checking how their related projects are doing and then make a decision.
Happy HODLing! Cool
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Controlling Bitcoin on: August 22, 2018, 12:26:13 AM
Bitcoin cannot be controlled by anyone, not even the government of the day, one of the reason is, bitcoin is a digital currency, not Fiat, It is decentralised and volatile. all these characteristics are not under the control of anyone.

Absolutely. But the government potentially might detect your transactions of exchange of crypto and impose a tax on those transactions, but you'd better check with your local lawyers who might be aware of the issue.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which BTC wallet to use? on: August 22, 2018, 12:18:39 AM
What exactly are you trying to achieve here? If you're simply looking for a wallet to hold your funds, then Go with Electrum. The fees are lower compared to banks, and not related to the amount being transacted but with the size of the transaction. I wouldn't suggest using anything that doesn't give you control of your private keys (exchanges/ online wallet providers).

Agree. Electrum is one of the best options. But beware of scam Electrum apps on Android play market.
Happy hodling!

Does McAfee antivirus software solve / prevent the problem?
Thank you!
12  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is taxation theft? on: August 05, 2018, 07:53:35 AM
Personally, I do feel it is theft, I never consented to any taxation. I feel that this video helps explain the video quite well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGMQZEIXBMs

The video is very persuasive, I'd say  Cool, but what if everyone chooses not to "help George," even those who can afford to "help a thousand Georges?"
The society must then come with a new paradigm of providing funds to do public works, like road repairs, sanitation, etc., etc.
I'm not saying that forcing all people to "help George" is okay. I'm merely trying to understand what opitons we have in this respect...
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bill Gates: I would put against bitcoin on: July 22, 2018, 09:21:27 PM
BG has been pretty inconsistent about his thoughts on bitcoin, so I don't understand whether it is so important to discuss an opinion of a person who doesn't seem to have a clue about it.
What IS important is that his sayings might potentially affect the price of btc. Wink
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin requires approval from countries ? on: July 04, 2018, 09:54:30 AM
Although "some countries don't consider bitcoin as "legal" (or illegal)," this enables law enforcement agencies of these countries to take everything related to crypto using force and get away with it just because this stuff is not regulated and, as such, these actions might not be considered as "illegal." They justify it to the media by "combating and preventing world terrorism" and "keeping their citizens safe."

Besides, every resident, in most countries I believe, MUST pay taxes on every kind of income they earn. Do you believe the gov-t is happy to lose its chance to get some additional "contributions" (taxes, fines, penalties, etc.) to the budget? I don't think so.  Cool
