How to recover from an Android wallet backup?

I'm getting pissed off.

You need to explain in detail what went wrong, I don't have first hand experience with BSD android wallet but it also works like the normal desktop wallet when it comes to wallet recovery and backup.

My experience is that Android wallet no longer syncs. Therefore I cannot simply restore my keys with it. The Bitsend website now points to Coinomi as the Android wallet furthering my suspicion that the classic Android wallet no longer works.

I tried doing the Android key recovery guide however the Bitsendj client also does not sync. Seems like the Bitsend network has very bad connectivity problems. I was able to convert my Android (protobuf) keys to mnemonic or BIP39 extended but neither seems of any use since Electrum does not support Bitsend.

Do you see the problem now? I've done everything but cannot use my perfectly fine backup. I kept perfect care of my keys but I think this project is on the fritz.

I have a wallet backup from Android wallet. Android wallet no longer works- how can I recover funds?

I was able to generate the mnemonic and BIP39 extended but can't use them anywhere. Coinomi won't take it.

bump. @Limx Dev

I tried using the bitsendj wallet-tools recovery guide but the chain wouldn't sync past a certain point. therefore i couldn't empty the wallet.

Is BitSend completely dead?

Sure you could say I should have sold at the top, but I'm just trying to recover my funds.

Not a peep.  Cry

Correct, but they have the first mover advantage now, so your "STEEM clone" will always just be that....

A STEEM clone. Copy cat clone with zero originality.

Zero originality? Is that like what happened to Pepsi or Android?

Not to mention that when people clone things, they generally fix something or try something new. Tremendous value in that.

If anyone is interested in cloning Steem or repurposing the core, please email me at brianedco@gmail.com

Cheers

Nitrogen claims to operate out of Costa Rica, great. Say that tomorrow the site disappears, together with all of the funds. What will you do? Give it a bad rating on your website? Catch the soonest flight out of your home in the US to Costa Rica?

I'm genuinely curious what you find so attractive about Nitrogen (apart from them paying you).

The objective fact is that Fairlay offer better lines (odds) than Nitrogen do.

To think that after two years and 30 pages of forum feedback the site operators would fake a server error to steal your 2BTC is hysterical and ridiculous. Why would the site operators need to bribe you? Are you also expecting reimbursement when you lose bets?

You seem to be suggesting that Nitrogen might not actually operate in Costa Rica (where it would actually be legal to operate a sportsbook).

So which is more likely then -- that Nitrogen *doesn't* operate in C.R. or that Fairlay doesn't operate in London?

Obviously the answer is that Fairlay is more likely to be lying about it. But it's tricky you see -- because in this case you don't necessarily want Fairlay to be telling the truth. Because what happens when the London cops come knocking on Fairlay's door? Will they already be on the first flight to Afghanistan? Will they hide all your BTC in brain keys and make sure you never get your payouts?

The point being -- it's bad business to pick an operator who claims to operate in a location where it's illegal to operate. You can't win for losing.

Now, obviously every site has risks -- even the fiat ones. But it's common sense that the more successful the site, the less likely they are to disappear with your money. And, in the case they do disappear, you'll have a lot of friends with pitchforks ready to hunt them down to the darkest corners of the earth. And even if you can't hunt them down, you'll have people to commiserate with and make you feel better.

You make some bad assumptions. Yes, sites can go under after 2 years of forum posts. We've seen it before. And the reason why they go down isn't necessarily my 2 BTC when they're offering upwards of 100 BTC on the exchange. Someone else could bring them down (again, including the cops) and I could be denied a payout.

As for better odds, no this also wasn't my experience. I thought it would work out like that which is why I deposited, but ended up having to accept worse odds than Nitrogen.

And how was it that you excused them for not reassuring players when they stopped processing withdrawals for 2 days? I do not excuse them at all. And I dread that feeling of not getting the payout so much that I will never play with them again, and I recommend you don't either.

Last but not least, I'm not at all obsessed with Nitrogen. I have plenty to critique about them. They're old-school in a lot of ways. But right now they're anchoring the BTC book space and I give them credit for that. I have zero fear of them disappearing with BTC -- can't say that about Fairlay.

Worth noting that the guy above runs http://www.btcwagering.com/ according to his profile, which appears to be a rather poor and thinly veiled advertising platform for competing sites.

Thanks for the plug! Nothing is veiled about BTC Wagering -- we exist precisely for this reason; to recommend *reputable* BTC-based sites where people *won't have a problem getting their payouts.*

NB. None of the sites we advertise suck. My experience with Fairlay most certainly sucked to the extreme. Thinking you got scammed out of your money for 2 days is the worst feeling in the world, trust me. And when your withdrawal isn't being processed and the operator isn't responding, I generally think I've been scammed.

Nitrogen for example operates in Costa Rica where it's actually legal to run a sportsbook without a license. Is it legal in London?

NO!!!

And I was expecting more than 10mBTC based on the fact I was betting 2BTC and had such a bad experience. But it's fine and consistent with their "we don't give a crap" behavior that they said no.

I think others will find value in the info I've presented based on actually using the site (and obviously wanting it to be good).

As for you, thanks for the plug Smiley

Be advised that our support is only reachable via the uservoice interfaces on our website. We also check in here from time to time.

We have given a few bug bounties as a gesture of good will in the past. We do not give any guarantees that you receive one.   Once again, your "matching problem" was indirectly caused by the server failure and we do not give a bounty for that.

Some of your points were already addressed in this thread. Maybe you find time to read the forum history and our FAQ.

Ya, I contacted you via uservoice and the support was still very bad. Slow and flaky are words that come to mind. And like I said, you should have been reaching out to us (customers) to assure us that everything would be ok. Instead we were sweating for 2 days.

And trust me, during those 2 days I read every forum post and was kicking myself for depositing with you in the first place. Plenty of people besides me have concluded that you haven't proven the solvency of your platform.

I was giving you a chance to keep me around with some comps, so I could see if you improve without risk to me. But I won't be depositing with you again and I recommend that others don't as well.
12  Economy / Gambling / Re: FAIRLAY - SPORTS BETTING for experts - highest liquidity, provably best odds on: June 16, 2016, 03:42:53 PM
Not sure what this post is about

It's about advising people not to bet on your site. The reasons were spelled out. I'd be happy to expand on them though if you are doing more than just being snarky.

Every operator knows that if something bad happens to your site / app, you quickly respond to the community to ease their fears. But you most certainly did not. That alone is a big reason not to play with you.

PS: it's impossible that all of the bugs I reported were cause by your server failure.
13  Economy / Gambling / Re: FAIRLAY - SPORTS BETTING for experts - highest liquidity, provably best odds on: June 16, 2016, 01:13:21 PM
To anyone considering playing with Fairlay:

I recommend staying away from these guys.

  • They don't seem trustworthy. I feel fortunate to have escaped with funds in tact after waiting 2 day for a withdrawal but you may not be so lucky.
  • Many people have talked about the apparent liquidity in their markets versus the reserves they have shown. Short version: they haven't given enough proof to believe they are solvent versus the huge bets offered on their site.
  • Another problem is that we don't know if they are licensed. They claim to be located in London, but is it believable? Not really.
  • Their site is barely functional. As an example, their "exchange" doesn't match market makers with intersecting offers automatically. This is absolutely a most basic function of an exchange and theirs didn't even do that in my experience.
  • The support is horrible. Based on how long it took them to respond to any of my attempts (BCTalk, email, Facebook, Twitter) I really thought they had run off with my money.
  • Now they're lying about being aware of the bugs I reported. As you can see in this thread I informed them that their matching wasn't working properly and now they claim they "already knew" which makes no sense.
  • They're using the likeness of Vitalik Buterin to promote their brand and lend credibility to it. Something tells me Vitalik doesn't actually endorse them.

Bottom line: Don't risk it with Fairlay.
14  Economy / Gambling / Re: FAIRLAY - SPORTS BETTING for experts - highest liquidity, provably best odds on: June 14, 2016, 10:33:41 PM
Yes, from time to time unless the "bug" is a feature.  @justbc

Obviously the bugs I ran into aren't "features."

You implied as much when you said they were all fixed.

You've given out bounties recently in this thread, so why not me?

Great. Are you still providing bug bounties / bonuses?

Hey Fairlay Team,

Any comps available for the issues I encountered? Was my first time using the site and thought you would benefit from knowing the bugs / issues I reported. It would also go a long ways towards keeping me on the site.

Regards.

Welcome to our site!

1. Can you give more details on the first issue. You made the AGAINST bid first and at this point no match was possible and then later the orderbook changed so that there should have been a match? Or you first offer should have found a direct match? In principal to our database it does not matter that you "select" a offer in the frontend. In our database only the odds and the amount will be stored and then the matching algorithm should do the rest.

2. That was really bad timing to join Fairlay- we indeed had trouble during this time. We hope that in the future you will experience our super fast cashouts as usual.

3. Good point - we will improve that!

About issue #1.

Yes exactly as you said "You made the AGAINST bid first and at this point no match was possible and then later the orderbook changed so that there should have been a match?"

Basically at the time I noticed it there were intersecting prices showing on the book. I should have taken a screenshot. But right after that I just manually matched the bet. If you look at the logs of my account you would see the last bet I cancelled right before accepting one.

First time using the site tonight. A few notes for the Fairlay team and potential players:

  • Had a situation where I made an offer AGAINST an outcome, someone else made an offer FOR the outcome whose price should have matched my order and filled it, but nothing was matched automatically. Bet was only matched when I cancelled my offer and manually selected the other user's offer.
  • Withdrawals which are supposed to be instant, say "completed" in the status but do not have a transaction hash listed. Furthermore, the blockchain shows they have not been dispatched.
  • When requesting a cashout if you don't leave room for the .2 mBTC fee (ie, request the entire amount) you get an error message "please try again later" rather than "please make sure the fee + cashout amount does not exceed your balance."

My account ID is 68d7c0f6. Waiting on 2 cashouts currently.
