1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Feathercoin to partner with other leading alt currencies on: June 28, 2013, 01:50:16 PM
what an "interesting" pile of arguments. Lets talk about the reality of crypto in general. Bitcoin - wonderful idea but more concentration was put on coming up with faster ways to mine it than ways to use it. Litecoin- better implementation of the original idea of crypto but again very little concentration on actually being able to buy something with it.  (before you get your panties in a bunch think from the viewpoint of John Q Public) further similarity between these 2 is their communities. both started out great with ideas and etc but then quickly turned into a troll playground with stagnation of purpose.

I hold all coins. I lost my BTC wallet awhile back and was in some seriously shitty circumstances and asked this community for help. Exactly one person donated 100 btc which allowed me to basically continue to survive. To this person I sent back 1500 BTC immediately upon locating the proper USB stick. This one person who shall remain nameless demonstrated that there is still a potential for an actual community.

Community is the thing i like most about feathercoin. People talk about fair launches and pre-mining and all that other nonsense. the reality is those that are in the know are always more successful than those that are not. That applies to everything in life.

Feathercoin is promising not because of what has been done with it but because of what is going to be done with it. Most people currently on this forum and others were not around for the beginning of bitcoin. It is easy to determine those that were not because they say things like "has no value" and etc. bitcoin had no value and the people who believed in it did so not because of some value based upon fiat but based upon the idea of crypto in general. If it were not for those of us who saw the potential none of these other coins would exist and bitcoin itself would no longer exist.

So before you sit there at your keyboard and argue with eachother about which coin is better think upon the fact that they all have the potential to change the world. Stop basing your arguments upon fiat value as fiat is the largest "scam coin" ever devised by man.

I cannot really form an opinion based upon this partnership announcement because i do not have enough information but if a partnership is done correctly with the proper motivation it could be huge. Here is hoping the motivation is proper.

By the way OP, how do you plan on spending the BTC?  Have you made plans to move elsewhere yet?

I have made plans but largely they depend on the sale of my home. I planned on moving to a place where there are more jobs and less people. The job I have currently during the warm season pays quite well but not well enough to offset my income being cut in half during the cold weather. I would probably use BTC for toll charges and/ or fuel costs were there any.

The last guy who was pleading for help had a similar post:

'I want to link my Bitcointalk name with BTCJam's. Verification code: 8c8efb58-b621-4f8c-ace6-4e6bb6892d87'

Would you believe that when it was brought to his attention, he quit responding?

I have a nephew that keeps moving because he can't afford the rent after the first month. It seems he spends all his time gaming, even taking days off from work due to lack of sleep. Did I mention he keeps seeking new employment every other month?

I remember last year, he was able to rent a trailer for only $250/mo., and that included all utilities. After losing that and his job at about the same time, he gain employment for less money, and moved into an apartment paying $550/mo., utilities not included. The SOB looked his mom in the eye and actual stated that he's doing better with his life. Two days later he stole his 11 year old brother's games and sold them to buy drugs.

Although I am not quite sure how this applies I will answer about the btcjam thing you quoted. I had the thought of making loans at some point in the future. As far as the rest of your post I have no idea what you are talking about. I am sorry that your nephew has these issues but i fail to see the correlation.

I'm sorry to hear about Your situation. It is very wrong that such absurd situation can occur. House owned by one person but land by another, like house is something that can be moved to different location like car. Place to live must be a human right that cannot be taken away. We probably need another civil war and WW3 to change the system of society for better.

I also here asked help in form of 200 USD to purchase replacement computer. I will pay the money back as soon as I resume working. What ideas You have right now?

I would help you with a computer if I wasn't in the situation i am in currently. I do feel that society is on the brink of change but isn't going to be for the better. I do not think WW3 would be a good thing as the toys that the powers that be are far too destructive but on the bright side we could all glow in the dark.

well basically i have to move out of my house or move my house by May 1 which is coming a bit faster than I would like. The house is a doublewide which i purchased for cash 2 years and some odd months ago. It will cost more to move nearly than it is worth and may be damaged in doing so. The best my lawyer could do was buy me time but that time is almost up and i am quickly running out of options.
6  Other / Off-topic / I ask for your help on: March 24, 2013, 04:36:26 PM
While i read these boards nearly on a daily basis i rarely post. I have recently lost my house although i own the house I did not own the land under it. I had hoped to be able to avoid any unpleasantness by using bitcoin to supplement my meager income however I had pre-ordered a bASIC and we all know how that turned out. I got a refund from that just in time to hire a lawyer in a vain attempt to not lose my house. Now i must sell my house and it is not worth much, less than 10k and as time grows near where i have to be gone it still has not sold.

I ask the help of the community if they feel they can perhaps donate although im sure some of you will be unhappy about this post any little bit would help. I am currently out of ideas. On behalf of my family and myself i thank you.

7  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold - is it really safe investment? on: November 23, 2012, 07:10:55 PM
Well to put it very simply precious metals are always a good store of value. they are never good investments. now i will explain.

gold and silvers value doesnt really ever change. A few decades ago you could buy a gallon of gas for one silver dime. Today you can still buy a gallon of gas for one silver dime. The only thing that has value that changes is fiat currency. Another example gold used to have its value controlled in respect to the dollar. 1 ounce of gold was worth 20 dollars. at that time you could buy a brand new car for about 300 bucks or 15 ounces of gold. Today an ounce of gold is worth exactly the same. 15 ounces of gold at the current fiat exchange rate will still get you one brand new car.

So if you were to buy a bunch of physical gold you would have the value of it stored. regardless of what the exchange rate does your value would remain the same. if fiat currencies decline further then you would think to yourself well now my gold is 5k an ounce and what a wonderful investment it was. The truth would be that your 5k would have the same buying power as your 1700 does right now. The same would hold true if fiat currencies gained value so your 1 ounce of gold is only worth 500 an ounce. That 500 dollars would have the same buying power as your 1700 does now.

9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 31, 2012, 12:14:11 PM
That's because, as I understand it, bASIC only has 1 employee. Where as BFL has 6 customer representatives, 1 office manager, 1 engineer, plus Josh and an unknown number of assemblers. BFL might have even more employees that I am unaware of.

and I still have better customer service and faster response time than they do.

I can see how it is much easier to provide customer service when you have a lower volume of inquires. BFL has stated that they answer more than 500 emails a day.

Tom you say that you have the fastest customer service. I see in this thread that it takes some 4 days to get a response from you and that you sometimes don't respond at all unless an additional email is sent. Where is your empirical evidence that your stated facts are not fictional? It sounds like to me your saying your Led Zeppelin album is better than BFL's Aerosmith album. Just because you say it's so doesn't make it so.

Tom, could you help me understand something? Why is it that you are providing pictures of your office but not of your ASIC products while BFL is providing pictures of their ASIC products but not their office? Is it a case of priorities?

Tom, lets talk about your FPGA product. Almost every electronic product sold in the US must be tested for spurious radio frequency emissions before marketed, sold, or delivered in the US market. The pictures I've seen of your FPGA product don't include a chassis that would stop spurious emissions. Tom I believe that your FPGA offering doesn't conform to the Code of Federal Regulations, title 47, part 15, subpart B. Penalties may include $16,000 for each violation and seizure of violating electronic devices. These penalties may also be assessed against each US recipient using violating products.

Tom, you may want to stop deliveries to the US market to avoid financial penalties to your self and your US recipients using your FPGA products. I would humbly suggest you contact an attorney and find an RF testing lab to insure your products are in compliance with federal regulations. Tom you just know that when people read this posting that some of them will make a report with the FCC. You'll be wondering for the next few months whether the FCC will be paying you a visit and conduct a seizure.

This posting are my beliefs and is not meant to be legal advice.

I wonder how creating a chassis and RF testing for BitcionASIC / BTCFPGA products is going to affect their delivery to
their customers?

I believe that BitcionASIC / BTCFPGA will be the first Bitcoin hardware manufacture to go bankrupt. If BitcionASIC / BTCFPGA goes bankrupt there goes the warranty.

hey look a hilarious post! firstly if you are going to quote law you should at least have a little understanding of it. It isn't the chassis that stops the "spurious" radio. that testing is generally done on the boards themselves at least for other products. ill even give you a good example lets take a radio just an everyday am/fm radio. its electronics are encased in plastic. plastic does not stop radio waves. if it did then cell phones would be non existent as all cell tower radio arrays are cased in plastic not to mention cell phones themselves. I do not understand the constant need for fans of bfl and bfl associates themselves to constant commit acts of keyboard douchenozzlery. Really it is like kids fighting at lunch over who has a better cookie but nobody has any cookies in hand yet. So the only people who really know are the people with the asics. It doesnt really matter who puts there product out first as long as all companies put out their product.

That last little bit about a report to the fcc and etc is just silly. Sounds like someone didnt get a hug from mommy or something and then had their lunch money taken.  Roll Eyes

I doubt it will amount to much more than a glorified thunderstorm here in upstate ny. Found out that i only live about 15-20 minutes away from tom. Current weather report is it is a little breezy and a bit of rain. Havent seen any farm animals fly by yet lol

And before all the omg conspiracy people jump in I have not met tom as of yet personally but i trust him enough to have ordered before the first round cut off.
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whats in it for ASIC guys to sell? on: October 29, 2012, 01:23:01 PM
because if an asic company went through all the time and expense to develop and asic and then use it to mine it would be very short sighted. Most companies are in it for the long game. They could spend the large chunks of money for development and deploy their on product and then spend a long time breaking even or they could sell them and make a profit immediately while at the same time increasing their customer base which leads to larger investments and profits over and over again. Using their equipment just to mine ould be tantamount to getting a golden goose and then killing it to see here the eggs come from instead of just letting the goose do its thing
12  Other / Politics & Society / Re: When the Fed buys mortgages from banks is it trickle down economics? on: October 26, 2012, 05:06:21 PM
It is not trickle down economics. It is a scam and I will explain why. The fed is made up of the same banks that the mortgages are coming from. Except the fed is not buying the mortgages it is buying securities on these mortgages. So basically they are buying what amounts to stocks on assets that they already own and both of those in the end will be paid for by the taxpayer with interest of course. All this is going to do is further devalue the US dollar. The fed is loaning itself basically 45 billion dollars a month for the securities and an additional 35 billion per month for other things. The only thing giving the dollar some sort of value is the fact that it is the world's reserve currency. For people who do not know what this means, it means that every country must purchase crude oil with the US dollar. The problem is that there is a shift happening where some countries are using gold or their own currencies to purchase crude oil. If this becomes a larger trend then the US dollar will become valueless and if this happens it ill go the way the zimbabwe currency went.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why ASIC's Should Not Be The Future Of Crypto Currencies on: October 26, 2012, 04:01:09 PM
I find all these threads about ASIC bringing about the downfall of bitcoin and/or crushing profit potential hilarious. Back when you could only mine with CPU everyone would freak out if someone had a gazillion cpus hashing away. Then along comes the ability to hash with gpu and everyone would cry OMG all the time and effort i spent setting up my awesome cpu mining farm have been for nothing. Now here comes the asic and everyone is doing the same thing that has been done everytime a new tech become available. If you want to mine with an asic go buy one. They really arent that expensive when you consider how much it costs to start a rig from scratch using gpus. Will the rich kids have an advantage? Of course dont they always? Does that mean you cannot even the field a bit? Of course you can. Im willing to bet that when tech changes again there will be a ton of threads once again complaining about everyones asics not being up to snuff because i can use this new and improved widget to hash at 4000Th/s or something. It is all a race to get to the end of the block reward. Enjoy the journey

I think you’re missing the point. Have you ever seen this thread? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=21112.0 It’s in the Newbie’s section.

It’s made up of new users to Bitcoin that are showing what they are hashing at using equipment they already have or they wouldn’t be posting there.

These people already had CPUs and GPUs when they showed up here. How many will have an application-specific integrated circuit devise customized for Bitcoin when they first arrive here? No one! Newbie’s will never come to this forum again asking for help setting up mining software because a friend told them how they were mining for Bitcoins using their computer and earning money from their computers down-time.

Mining will become a specialty business at that point. Miners will be drawn from either existing users that are continuing their mining hobby or incredibly insightful entrepreneurial types willing to gamble on the possible payoff of a costly devise that will have very limited value after Bitcoin. How will this effect Bitcoin? I don’t know but I can speculate that the outcome might be negative.

Of course newbies use what they have. Doesn't everyone? I mean it isnt really possible to use that which you do not possess. New people will always start hashing. Last year when the best gpu for hashing was a 6990 people didnt stop mining because they got all sold out. They continued with whatever they had or whatever they could get their hands on. Many new people try it with what they have and whenever they purchase something with their bitcoins or convert them to fiat they either decide to continue with what they have or they upgrade. That is another thing that will always remain true.

Im pretty sure you completely missed my  point so i will restate it. Everytime the technology changes people complain and squeal doom and gloom. Yet the reality is people still mine with cpu's even though gpu's are so much better. People still mine with gpus even though fpga's are better or at least more efficient. Asics will come along whenever they finally start shipping and people will still mine with cpu's gpu's and fpga's. The difficulty will go up the network hash rate will go up but it wont matter people will still mine. Almost anyone can afford an ASIC of one type or another as they are not expensive and they are actually much much cheaper than building a gpu rig especially if you want to build one with comparable hash rates.

As for your statement mining will be a specialty business. It already is. Otherwise everyone would be doing it already. There will always be hobby miners and there will always be more profit minded miners. This will be true no matter what the difficulty rises to or how many times the block reward halves.

Related? http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=26973.0 more specifically
im working on it. I think I should take a few days to learn mandarin but i have time while waiting for funding

Anyways I'm actually in China on vacation right now with nothing to do. I think I can fit in a trip to Guangzhou before I leave. Unless this is too secret for me to view of course.

Completely unrelated but thanks for asking

short answer no it isnt related. i would much rather use ASIC but I do not have the initial investment to have one designed and etc. Perhaps at some point.
