1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fury/Blizzard tuning and mods on: June 23, 2014, 12:50:33 PM
Fury draws at least 40W+ on an 80+ certified ATX PSU, closer to 50W on these "industrial" types that are less efficient. ~4A at 12V.
22W might be when it's idle perhaps?
Yes, they draw half power when idle. The fan itself should draw up to 8w depending on the build quality. I haven't found the data sheet.

My mistake both on idle and math, I have corrected my post.

The stock Fury at idle draws 1.8a or 22w, hashing draws: 3.8a or 46w per measurements.

Thanks!
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fury/Blizzard tuning and mods on: June 23, 2014, 02:05:46 AM
I'm running a few GAW Fury miners from this: supply, 12vdc, 30A, $26.
Below was corrected per posts by others:
The stock Fury at idle draws 22w or 1.8a, hashing twice that: 46w or 3.8a.

For power connectors I used these, cut off the PCIE connector. They are long and a nice gage of wire, I bought some others that were really trashy and tossed them. I crimped lugs on them but the power supply had a nice retention piece on the screw that should work well without lugs.

1.5.21b1 is up now which mostly just updates bfgminer to the long awaited version 4

I have been mining fine with MacMiner 1.5.18e, ASIC Block Erupter Cube and BFL Jalapeņo. Just updated to MacMiner 1.5.21b1 and it does mine, takes about 3 minutes to get started, if it starts, but there is no display of hash rate Accepted to Rejected. I am using the BTC Guild pool.

I don't see any advantage to update. What am I missing?

What can I do to help get this resolved.

Is there a way to see the actual BFGMiner, CGMiner and CPUMiner command string sent so I can verify direct operation?
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [HD] on: May 27, 2014, 01:52:56 AM
I too blew [aka melted] a fuse on a unit which had been running perfectly for 3 months. I had disassembled it to take the new HD pictures and put it back together. The fuse melted within a few hours, but the unit was absolutely fine with a replacement. Could have been static, could have been bad placement of the fuse (doubtful), who knows. What we do know is the fuse is pretty close to the max power of the fuse.

Its also nothing to do with fans, the Cube has PWM detection and will stop hashing if the fan fails. You can test this yourself (please dont).

I think the important part is: "disassembled it to take the new HD pictures and put it back together". That means that the fuse probably did not have a good connection when it was replaced and overheated due to a poor fuse/connector connection. By replacing the fuse the next fuse had a better connection and survived.

That would seem to be an over current condition.  The change of a few degrees shouldnt be enough to melt the plastic on the fuse unless you notice that the case is getting really hot.  Then you should check that the fan is running.  Dogie has some info about reversing the fan for better air flow but i would suspect that the fan is not running and thats what is causing the build up of heat,  the other option would be that the socket for the fuse is loose and causing high resistance.  Was there a good amount of resistance when you replaced the fuse?

If ever a Bitmain customer needs help call the help line at 844-BIT-MAIN

http://dcmco-op.com/?ref=Drizzik  fully endorses BITMAIN..  No Lazy Ants Here!!!

Fan was running when I found the fuse like that. Could have stopped at some point and started again? I had trouble pulling the fuse out and had to use pliers to get it out.  I had all the power disconnected at the time.  It was also difficult to push the new fuse in.

I thought this was weird though.  I plugged the miner back in without the fuse and the fan kicked on. Didn't mine though.  I turned it back off and put the fuse in. It started mining.  Is that normal?

A key part: "the other option would be that the socket for the fuse is loose and causing high resistance."

Another key part: "I had trouble pulling the fuse out and had to use pliers".
Best bet is that there was a bad connection between the fuse and the fuse connector causing heat. The heat "welded"the fuse to the fuse connector. When a fuse gets hot the fuse link melts--at a low temperature, that is how they work. If there is heat it is the fuse connection.

In my case I noticed that the fuse was to hot to hold my finger on. That was caused by a bad connection between the fuse and fuse connector. Later the fuse was cool but the fuse was "welded: to the fuse connector--could not bee removed with my fingers.

Insure that the fuse has a good/tight mechanical connection to the fuse connector and is not hot.

Don't blame the fuse, it is your friend protecting your equipment.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [AUTO SWITCH] ScryptGuild (BTC Guild) Beta on: May 18, 2014, 12:42:35 PM
Scrypt mining in general is becoming less profitable.
hence why i am not buying scrypt miners atm . now is not a good time to buy those i think. they have 100Mh/s scrypt miners now.
Some of the new ASIC scrypt miners now available are very low power so should be profitable for a reasonably long time. A Gridseed 5-chip ($80) can mine 300+kHs at 7W of power, 4W with the fan removed (scrypt only mode). With a HW mod they can go to 500kHs.
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [HD] on: May 17, 2014, 11:27:28 PM
Just from the traffic on the thread it seems clear interest in the Cube is over.

Sadly the Cube had a short life, mine started mining at the beginning of Jan 2014. It is no longer paying for the electricity and cooling costs most weeks, it is a better deal to buy BTC than pay the electric bill at the moment.

At this point I am about -$100 not considering the PSU cost. But all is not lost, if BTC gains substantially the Cube's efforts will make it profitable overall, I think that will happen.

I really liked the Cube and will miss him. RIP

Dogie, thanks for the great thread and all the help you provided!

1.5.20 updated to a final hopeful most stable version and beta versions will resume shortly. This is a bug fix release for two known issues.
I tried 1.5.20gm and it does not work with a BFJ Jalapeņo and a ASCI Block Erupted cube. Just moving back to 10.5.18e does work.

No need to fix for me.

Now for some depressing reading.

Jan 5 -Jan 12 0.1 bt
Jan 12 - Jan 22 0.1 bt
Jan 22 - 3 Feb 0.1 bt
Feb 3 - Feb 18 0.1 bt
Feb 18 - 9 Mar 0.1 bt
Mar 9 - 4 Apr 0.1 bt
Apr 4 - May 11 0.1 bt

Single cube over clocked, running 24/7 at 38793 GHs.

So, will it ever generate 2 whole bitcoins?
Probably not but more importantly calculate the power cost. Some days I am underwater and other days it's making money all depending on the "luck". But it probably will not be long until on average it is loosing money, that it is cheaper to but BTC than mine it with a Cube. My break even is about 24 Hour Earnings of 0.0017 BTC at $470/BTC everything considered, direct electricity and cost of AC.

1 Cube,       300w,  35 GH/s, profit: $0.39/day
3 Gridseeds,  24w, 950 kH/s, profit: $1.44/day

Just to provide some perspective Cubes are going for $105 on ebay, I have seen then as low as $75 (both including shipping).

Danzaph TYVM for all your help.  When the PSU comes tmrw i may need some more lol
Sorry about the confusion, I was not familiar with that king of PSU--I learned something too. ;-)
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread [BTC/LTC-CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC] on: May 08, 2014, 02:19:10 AM
I'm worried that ASIC will kill scrypt - it was built specifically to be ASIC resistant so what's it for now?
Kill it from what perspective? The _real_ reason for "mining" is to verify transactions. ASIC scrypt is really good for this because it is very low power, efficient, green.

Coin was not created in order to make money mining. Mining rewards were created to solve the chicken-egg problem of getting people to run verification servers, uh, that is miners to bootstrap BTC.

So, yeah, LTC was naive in trying to make GPU mining easier than ASIC, if they had been smart they would have realized that ASICs would come to scrypt. Or maybe they knew and purposely sought a more efficient process but had to mis-direct the mining community in order to get the miners involved in scrypt.

just bought a Corsair Builder Series CX 500 Watt ATX/EPS  80 PLUS (CX500) hope this works good for a cube. $88 overnight delivery Sad
I have run a Cube with a CX500 just fine.

Is there a PSU that Bestbuy sells that is affordable and can be used for the cube with nothing else needed?  Bestbuy is the only place around to bu something like that.
Persoanlly I use this power supply available from: Amazon

14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [now in HD!] on: May 07, 2014, 07:23:52 PM
Yes to all those.
You wrote earlier: "A crappy gateway. there are no open molex connectors to jump off and the PSU in the comp is a sealed unit no way to connect to it." What does your computer have to do with the PSU?
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [now in HD!] on: May 07, 2014, 07:21:11 PM
none no lights on cube or psu. But the PSU won't come on unless it's jumped . I would jump the PSU off of my computer but there are no openings to connect to.
Do you have two PCI-E cables between the PSU and the Cube? And a 110vac power cord to the PSU? A 30A fuse installed in the Cube?
16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [now in HD!] on: May 07, 2014, 07:16:23 PM
Backing up, what are you trying to accomplish? Power an ASIC Cube or something else?
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [now in HD!] on: May 07, 2014, 07:10:55 PM
Ya it definately needs to be jumped.  My Comp will not allow me to connect so i have to jump it.
When you connect the PSU do any lights come on on the cube?

That your computer will not connect (whatever that means) does not mean that there is a power supply problem.
18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [now in HD!] on: May 07, 2014, 07:02:36 PM
I have a psu that has not ATX cable to do the paper clip trick with...It is possible to jump a Molex connector?

Here is the PSU in question Wink
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817101044
What makes you think that anything needs to be jumpered to make it work. It just looks like it just has power output connectors and a connector for 110vac. It seems to be designed to supply additional power, not power a computer motherboard.  Have you tried it?
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread [BTC/LTC-CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC] on: May 07, 2014, 05:50:55 PM
Not optimistic about the future value of any particular coin then?
Scrypt looks good, the tradeoff of processing power for memory gives lower power requirements providing possibly a long life against the cost of power.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread [BTC/LTC-CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC] on: May 07, 2014, 04:18:22 PM
You mean the BFL and the cube? Sad to see the earlier ASICs becoming redundant already! The gridseed should be profitable for scrypt for a while..
It is close, yesterday was un-profitable, today marginally profitable. I also see where waldohover shut down Jupiter miners.
