1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Phoenix in command line Linux on: July 02, 2011, 08:24:49 AM
Its a custom Redhat that I have at work for Real-Time communication/control of Xilinx FPGA cards. I eventually would like to start my own project on the side by inserting some graphic cards, but I would at least start mining with the CPU.

I could install the package if it won't affect the stability of the system or the python SConscripts we use to compile code.

 1# python -V
Python 2.4.3

I'm on Redhat:

 1# yum install python-twisted
Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
Loading "security" plugin
This system is not registered with RHN.
RHN support will be disabled.
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
No package python-twisted available.
Nothing to do

Thanks.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / How to compile Linux sources? on: June 25, 2011, 05:04:14 AM
How do I compile the sources in Linux for cpuminer or ufasoft or any bitcoin clients? They have a Makefile.in and Makefile.am and configure.

There is no makefile to run make after doing the ./configure.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I'm figuring what to get as a new computer for my gaming and mining. I'm still on a few old games and not looking for anything particular to run at max settings. Maybe Guild Wars 2 when it will come out.

Do AMD processors run better with ATI/AMD graphic cards versus intel i7?

Is hashing more of a fix bit or floating bit calculations?

I haven't read the whole thread, however, 4% per day means it doubles every 18 days...
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2 x 5830 on the cheap on: June 19, 2011, 12:40:56 AM
...I realise I'll never recoup the money I've spent on buying the hardware, nor pay the substantially expensive electricity bill this month, hehehe.

Always a bit sceptical of providing links. Try this though:

Google 5830. In Google shopping, there's an XFX 5830 entry (2nd from the top). The price and supplier are listed there.

William

Aren't you aware that Google search is also based on location? If your in the UK, you will see it as #2, if your in China you will see it at page 100. Just post the link...
12  Other / Beginners & Help / 5830 difference between different manufacturers on: June 19, 2011, 12:06:10 AM
Whats the difference between all the 5830 manufacturers (besides the price)?
Which ones are better miners?

  • SAPPHIRE 100297L Radeon HD 5830 w/ ATI Eyefinity Technology
  • Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 XTREME
  • PowerColor ATI Radeon HD5830 PCS+
  • GIGABYTE HD5830
  • Asus Radeon EAH5830
  • XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830
  • Radeon HD5830 from Sharp?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / RTOS QNX/Linux and Xeon CPU feasability on: June 13, 2011, 01:39:43 AM
I want to know if its possible and how much hash/s I could expect on a real-time OS with multi-cores.

Settings:
I'm a real-time programmer and our computers are specifically built for real-time processing with custom motherboards and multi-core Xeon processors. Some computers have up to 16 cores which can run 100% of the time without problems or questions. They run on real-time QNX or a custom Redhat Linux with the same performance as QNX.

Cooling isn't a problem.

Forget about any GPU processing.

Questions:
Is there any Linux CPU mining software?

Can the software be used via telnet/ftp/mounting from a windows PC or require a monitor for settings?

Has anyone tried mining with QNX or a RTOS?

What kind of performance would I expect from a single core of a Xeon?
I'm aware of https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison but those all run on Windows which isn't a RTOS.

Has anyone tried isolating CPU cores for mining?

Thanks.
