!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VOTE for GRIDCOIN to be listed on coinpayments and be used as currency for buying all kinds of items. Each vote is 0.001 btc All the proceeds from the voting go towards the WATER Project: https://thewaterproject.org/VOTE: https://www.coinpayments.net/voteIf Gridcoin gets accepted this will give our currency a great boost in value and usability. This is very important! Yes, agreed, this is very important. I've voted/paid the very small amount compared to the possible payoff. We all need to do this!

Well said Sir, well said!!! +1 I cannot sit idly back any longer without comment:
Rob.....you sir deserve some sort of award for all of your efforts on Gridcoin. I follow the tech speak as much as I can, but I am constantly floored at the rapid progress you make with these difficult issues and the level of communication you maintain with the community. This is not only an incredibly unique and revolutionary coin, but you stand out among all the developers I've followed/come into contact with thus far. That combination makes the success of this coin, and the benefits it will bring to the world, inevitable. I predict that some day soon you'll be receiving lots of attention and praise for what you're doing here. Be prepared.
I follow the developments daily and I'm looking into ways of my own to contribute to the community. Thanks for all of your hard work. It has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.
Seriously, just WOW. And I do not say that lightly.
Well said indeed! Couldn't agree more.

gridcoin.conf should be users/"computer name"/appdata/roaming/gridcoin Thanks. I'm not sure the cgminer.congf file is in the right place (program files(86)\gridcoin folder) and maybe wasn't having any effect. I have already got the intensity at 13 despite what the conf file says in my earlier post (which is why I think the cgminer.conf is doing nothing).
Have we reached the difficulty point where it is better to switch to GPU pool mining? And I assume that because I have to find a block to start participating in the pool (once pool mining=true is in gridcoin.conf) then I could still have a long wait?

Thanks but I have the grid coin.conf file in the location you mention. I was referring to the cgminer.conf (which im still unclear whether i need or not if im using it from within the client) OR are you saying that the parameters in the gridcoin.conf can include the cgminer.conf parameters if I am using cgminer from within the client?

my GPU hash rate is around 420-450 k/hs

Asdlolciterquit: thanks for the link. I'm sure it will be useful when I come to tune my card. To your other question, my GPU setup just has 1 project, Docking@home. My CPU mining is successful on my laptop with 3 projects but I don't think increasing the number if projects on my desktop will affect this. Can anyone shed some light on why I have gone 48hrs without mining a block? Is it my config file(s) or does my card have too low a hash rate to expect a return in that time period (see post above)?
Edit: I'm pretty sure it's not my hash rate unless I've been particularly unlucky

Hi, I have 2 questions that I've tries to figure out and post here as a last resort. 1)I have been successfully CPU mining for a few days now although payout total about 70-80 GRC per day not 150 but my question is that the the number of beacons sent out each day is now up to 9. Is this what other people get? 2) I have now acquired a desktop with an XFX 7970 GPU and am trying to get that mining. I've followed the explanation given at http://gridcoinnetwork.org/gpu-mining/ and had it running for 48 hours but have yet mine anything. gridcoin.conf: server=1 rpcuser=rpc rpcpassword=G3GhkCmrjT223F2bQeU3robxyJfzpZgxQF rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rpcport=9332 addnode=98.114.181.178 UpdatingLeaderboard=false dev0_gpu_thread_concurrency=16384 dev0_worksize=256 dev0_intensity=17 dev0_lookup_gap=2 dev0_enabled=True dev0_name=0 - Tahiti - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. chkFullSpeed=False chkMiningEnabled=True chkCGMonitor=False UpdatedLeaderboard=29/01/2014 07:45:14 I've also put this cgminer.conf file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Gridcoin folder: { "pools" : [ { "url" : "127.0.0.1:9332", "user" : "rpc", "pass" : "G3GhkCmrjT223F2bQeU3robxyJfzpZgxQF" } ] , "intensity" : "9", "vectors" : "1", "kernel" : "scrypt", "lookup-gap" : "2", "shaders" : "0", "gpu-engine" : "0,900", "auto-fan" : true, "gpu-memclock" : "0,1200", "gpu-memdiff" : "0", "gpu-powertune" : "0", "temp-cutoff" : "89", "temp-overheat" : "85", "temp-target" : "75", "api-port" : "4028", "expiry" : "120", "gpu-dyninterval" : "7", "gpu-platform" : "0", "gpu-threads" : "2", "hotplug" : "5", "log" : "5", "no-pool-disable" : true, "queue" : "1", "scan-time" : "30", "scrypt" : true, "temp-hysteresis" : "3", "shares" : "0", "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin" } This wasn't in the tutorial. Is is screwing up my mining? my GPU hasn't been tweaked and is getting only about 450K/hs Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Rgds Nthuse

As I am CPU mining it seems I can't use an encrypted wallet. So if I want to keep my coins safer I'd need to transfer them to an encrypted wallet using a different address. What's the best way to do this on one PC? Run a virtual machine and have two instances open or is there another way?
Thanks

I've been trying CPU mining as well as GPU mining. For GPU mining, I have an NVIDIA card (GT 650M), and even though I've been using Cudaminer, the hash rate is low enough that I haven't hit any blocks yet. And for CPU mining, it's now become clear to me that, since my wallet is empty, a beacon isn't being sent out. Could anyone send me a few bitcoins to get started (so beacons can go out as I CPU mine)? My address: G7ZC5oVK75EHTMUWR76yqA8imfSdAB6NT6
Thank you.
Also sent you some coins. Happy mining! ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

asdlolciterquit,
I think sleep should mean your cgminer is in sleep mode and the beacon only sends once or twice a day IIRC. But yes, if your beacon doesn't send anything for a day then I would assume that you're not getting the cpumining credits.
thx! now stasus is WORK, but no beacon was send ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) how can i fix it?? it been 10 hours without any beacon now.. Do you have any GRC in your wallet? You need some so you can send the beacon. That was my problem.

nthuse,
I don't think there was ever a cpupoolmining option so taking that shouldn't have done anything. Payments for CPU mining isn't constant so I you only see payments during certain times of the day. So I wouldn't worry about it unless you go 24 hours without getting a payment.
Ah OK. I must have picked that up from one of the hundreds of posts I've read and misunderstood. Thanks for clearing it up. I'll sit tight and see what happens. thanks.

aysyr,
Thanks for the reply. I have cpumining=true, it was cpupoolmining=true that I removed and then things seemed to stop. In my earlier post I had already stripped it out and then forgot to remove it form the actual file (confusing I know) when I started mining following receipt of coins from you and derm. So this is what I have in my gridcoin.conf file now:
server=1 rpcuser=gridcoinrpc rpcpassword=GG6XHgjJYmzaSxAeRTeRRhC1g3Smgk1QDh rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rpcport=9332 cpumining=true UpdatingLeaderboard=false UpdatedLeaderboard=25/01/2014 16:22:27 Project1=107958 Project3=491999 Project5=1012899 boincappfolder=C:\Program Files\Boinc\
Should this work?
Your advice is much appreciated.

@ derm and aysyr : thank you for the coins! they seem to have at least partially solved my mining issue. Once I had a positive GRC balance in my wallet several beacons were sent after about 40 mins. I had my gridcoin.conf file including cpupoolmining=true and the client sent out 6 beacons. Is this expected? I received 7 payments over the next 6-7 hours of between 8 to 34 GRC. Does that sound about right?
So then to test solo mining I removed cpupoolmining=true from the conf file and after running for 8 hours I've yet to receive anything. Does having started out cpupool mining prevent me from then solo mining? With the following stats: Boinc proc power: 67, thread count: 2 & Avg Daily Credits: 346, what can I reckon to wait for a payout (roughly)? Or have I missed something again?
AndrewP: it's easy to omit what seems obvious in a tutorial, besides I leaned a lot about the rest of the mechanics of Gridcoin while trying to figure out my specific problem.
Thanks.

@ aysyr & Gridcoin - thanks for the replies. This may be a face-palm moment but I don't have any GRC in my wallet. For some reason I thought the beacon would loop the payment back on itself and so not require a balance. Please can you/someone send me enough GRC to get started ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) GG6XHgjJYmzaSxAeRTeRRhC1g3Smgk1QDh If this fixes the issue 'll add a post to the 'How to CPU mine' thread as I think the current explanations miss this out. I have Gridcoin v1.1.5.7-g71-prod Thanks for your help!

Another Noob here. I've been trying to get CPU mining working all week but have yet to get the client to send out the beacon to get me on the list of CPU miners. I've followed AndrewP's tutorial ( https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1922-cpu-mining-tutorialtopic/) and read pretty much every post on this and other forums to try to figure this out for myself but seemingly have got nowhere. My Boinc utilization is 60% and Avg daily credits=204. Gridcoin.conf file is: server=1 rpcuser=gridcoinrpc rpcpassword=GG6XHgjJYmzaSxAeRTeRRhC1g3Smgk1QDh rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rpcport=9332 cpumining=true UpdatingLeaderboard=false UpdatedLeaderboard=23/01/2014 19:54:01 Project1=107958 Project3=491999 Project5=1012899 boincappfolder=C:\Program Files\Boinc\ cgminer.conf is (not sure if I even need to set this for CPU mining): "pools" : [ { "url" : "127.0.0.1:9332", "user" : "gridcoinrpc", "pass" : "GG6XHgjJYmzaSxAeRTeRRhC1g3Smgk1QDh" } ] CPU = Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B970 @ 2.30GHz Project console - malaria control, Milkyway@home and Rosetta@home all have positive credits. I've changed the wallet address receiving label to 'Default' To date I've 'received' 6 unconfirmed transactions of either 0.00000167 or 0.00000267 GRC but I'm pretty sure they have nothing to do with mining and I haven't mined these. IS there something really obvious that I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm completely stuck! ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)
