Pretty much the only way is with a signed message. I can unlock the account but not restore access of it to you if you don't already have access to it. Only theymos and cyrus can do that but good luck with that with or without a signed message.
Can you unlock please? Thank you! Not without a signed message or some other fairly watertight and verifiable proof. I'll PM you.

That might actually help - can you unlock it for me? I can PM you if needed on how/why it would help (don't want to post it publicly). I don't think you will get access to that account until theymos or cyrus will do it for you,for that you need to prove that ownership of owner that account. So you need to sign in the message from that bitcoin address you have used it before and send it in the PM. For more info please refer this thread Recovering hacked accounts or accounts with lost passwordsI have never used a bitcoin address on this forum though.. that's the problem. If it can get unlocked, I think I can get the rest of it figured out. Ohh that,s sad but this is the only we have to prove your ownership. Did you participated in any bounties or entered your ETH address in public this maybe helpful too,if you can sign in message from that address. Good luck! I have not. I do have extensive documentation of using the account, all the emails I received from it, and the emails about someone hacking my account. However, I never used a wallet in the forums. Hopefully it can at least get unlocked and I can try to figure it out from there.

If you can't do as the post above requires, you may be out of luck for recovery. You have to prove you own that account, it is up to you to do so and the how/what is in the above post.
Any other options to prove ownership if I never had any BTC wallet associated with the account? IMO, sign message the only one way to prove it. Honestly I'm also difficult to find another option to prove someone's ownership address Signed message only works if I've used a BTC wallet somewhere publicly before, or am I misunderstanding it? Aside from resting the account, is there a way to get it unlocked?

using a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account. A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account only if the account posted the key/address, sent it in a PM, or if it is still listed in the account's profile.
What are the options if I never had a bitcoin address associated with the account? I'm seeing 100's of accounts hacked all of a sudden by the way.. I think an issue with the forum. But separately, would love to get the account reset somehow or at the very least unlocked?

A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account
I never had a bitcoin address associated with the account. However, I was very active in the community for years. Do not create your temporary account using the same email address you want for the hacked/lost account. No two accounts can have the same email address.
Yes, that I know. I made this one with a different email address. Any other suggestions/advice? If you can't do as the post above requires, you may be out of luck for recovery. You have to prove you own that account, it is up to you to do so and the how/what is in the above post. Well, proving is easy, I can respond via the original email address that the hacker just changed and I have the forum alert email (that was sent to that email address) as proof as well. I locked the account via the link in that email. The question is, who do I reach out to for help?

Dear amelen,
Your Bitcoin Forum (bitcointalk.org) password was just changed by IP address 78.26.198.233. If you did not do this, then you should use the forgotten password feature to change your password.
Regards, The Bitcoin Forum Team.
I instantly locked the account, but can't reset the password now since the account is very old and doesn't have a security question set up. I pm-ed the mod's but didn't get a response. Any ideas? Seems like thousands of accounts were recently hacked someone - seems like the site itself might have been hacked? I didn't use this password on any other site.
