1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Octo vs. Dracula - coming soon for Octocoin (888) on: September 03, 2016, 06:35:44 PM
Sounds like it could be cool. I'll be glad to see a real application for Octocoin.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MRY] Murraycoin ▪ The Only Currency Worthy of Bill Murray ▪ Now Scrypt-2048 on: November 10, 2014, 11:21:05 PM
I’m not up on all the latest algorithms either, but I agree with Brian, I think the current algorithm is good. I think it was chosen for a good reason with the last fork. That said, if something else would be better for the coin, it’d certainly be interesting to hear about.

A special edition wallet sounds cool. Would it just be snazzy graphics (which would be fun, I miss the old animated graphics from way back in spring...), or would there be other special edition features? Maybe you’d need that special edition wallet for certain goods / services with Murraycoin?

I like the idea of a default donation. As you say, bholzer, the ability to remove the donation probably makes sense, but I bet most people just leave it, since it's for a good cause.

Good luck getting the new website done.  Smiley

Thanks bholzer. Always good to hear the latest news.

I'll put some thought into the items you've suggested and post back here once I have.

Also, very cool to see Murraycoin mentioned with golf, on back9network.com.

All this press is awesome. If you check out the articles, they generally have lots of shares on social media, too.

What’s next from the dev team?

I’m eager for the new website, and / or whatever else. Seems like others are too.

I haven't mined any since the fork and switch to Scrypt-2048, but is it possible you need to be using different mining software than what's in that reddit post?

Basically, Scrypt-2048 is a different algorithm than litecoin, so it needs different software. At the moment murraycoin can be mined with the same software as vertcoin.

I looked here:

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/3431-murraycoin-mry-information/

And in the first post there are links to CPU miners and source code that seem to be up to date.

Perhaps that would get you mining?

Let me add another “thank you” to Brian.

I’ve seen a lot of really positive tweets about Murraycoin recently, especially in the days since the conference.

This one’s a good sign, offering to do a Q&A on their blog:

https://twitter.com/CheapAir/status/520267169255280640

And there have been plenty more about MRY in general.

I also really look forward to that new website launching, ideally to keep this momentum going.

Exciting times for Murraycoin!

Awesome. That looks really great. I saw one minor thing:

On the right of page 2, for the box titled “How do I get some?”, the texture on the box’s shadow looks weird to me. I think it’s the only texture in the whole brochure, so it stood out (perhaps that was intentional?). And I’m not a graphics designer, so maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about there.

Again, I think the whole thing is really well done.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin | PoW to PoS v. 2.0 | Solar Proof of Generation (§1 = 1MWh) on: September 25, 2014, 07:35:59 PM
I was mining early on, have been following things for the last few months, and am really excited about the recent developments with solarcoin.

For one thing, it’s very impressive that the fork went so well. After that, it’s easy to be confident the switch to POS in a month will go well, too.

And I really like the solarcoin strategy of reducing the block reward size gradually before the switch. No dramatic, sudden change to POS. Everyone has a month to see what’s going on and mine the coins they want.

I can’t wait to see how the exchange price responds to the block reductions and then POS. Someone mentioned it earlier in this thread, and I certainly agree that it’s wise to only invest money in crypto that you could afford for the investment not to go well with.

That said, I can absolutely see this coin being worth orders of magnitude more than it is now. There are so many garbage alt coins out there, but this is not one of them. This coin has a real purpose, a real plan, and a real team behind it. And finally, looking at how the price has risen of late, it seems more and more people are starting to notice.

Exciting times for SLR!

And maybe time to transfer to a new registrar? They own the domain, so they shouldn't be at the mercy of someone else over where the DNS points, or anything like that.

Bummer, but good to know at least it isn't just me. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Is https://www.murraycoin.org/ down for you guys? I tried it yesterday and this morning, and it won't load for me.

Thanks for the update.

Where do I send MRY for the gold tophat?  Smiley

It really is a nice looking gravestone. At least it's clear that trolling MRY requires a high quality effort.

Also this

Obviously he is forgetting that Bill Murray knows how to be a zombie, and thus Murraycoin will never die.

is a key point.

I’m excited for the MRY foundation. I think they will be genuinely shocked at how much money it makes them and more support and awareness it brings them.

Good point about the awareness Murraycoin will bring the foundation. I had never heard of the Murray Bros. Foundation before coming across Murraycoin, and I’m sure most Bill Murray fans haven’t either.

In last week’s theeweek.com article, they devoted much of their paragraph on the coin to the Foundation, as well as the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation that the Murray Bros. donate to.

So the money raised aside (which should be substantial), once this gets more mainstream press, the additional exposure for all these organizations should be incredibly valuable. And if Murraycoin is the first celebrity coin of its kind (as we all hope it will be), when other coins follow in its footsteps, Murraycoin will probably often be mentioned as the original, bringing even more valuable exposure to the Murray Bros. Foundation.

Awesome that MurrayCoin is in both the headline of the article, and their tweets about it. A tweet was:

"Cash in your Bitcoin - for some Bill MurrayCoin, PotCoin, or these other alt cryptocurrencies:"

Exciting to hear things are moving forward, bholzer.

Bummer about cryptsy today...

I had really hoped cryptsy’s voting system would bring transparency and predictability to their coin selection process.

In the past, it seemed unclear how cryptsy chose which coins to add, which made it hard to plan around for coin owners. I also think their non-transparency brought a lot of negativity toward their site. A voting list seemed like a great change for them.

However, the way they’re picking coins from all over the list doesn’t seem to be reducing confusion at all. In fact, it makes things worse when people feel not ignored, but cheated. And in a market filling up with more competitive exchanges, I think they’re making a mistake being non-transparent about their voting system.

Cryptsy is a great exchange - lots of coins, they have and can handle a ton of volume, they’re adding USD markets…

I’m certainly disappointed with how cryptsy’s handling their voting system, but I still can’t wait until we get on there.

still no reply of fusionhash.........

oudekaas, I just remembered from earlier in the thread

bholzer listed this email address for them:

Have you tried that yet?

Good thing it wasn't Judge Smails... and his terrible hat.

where can I buy murraycoin ?

With cryptorush having issues at the moment, your best bet would probably be https://xnigma.com. The site is still in beta, but it's worked well for me.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [MRY] Murraycoin ▪ The Only Currency Worthy of the Name ▪ Info & Discussion on: March 26, 2014, 04:45:26 AM
Thanks for the update bholzer - appreciated as always.

I didn't pick Duke to lose so early, but maybe I should next year. They seem to be making a habit of it.

I saw Grand Budapest. I liked it, and I wonder if it's a movie I'll like even more the second time around. More Bill would have been good, for sure.
