1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] VGC - VegasCoin on: September 01, 2020, 08:15:47 PM
its been a bad year, broken computers, a dead hard drive with an old (full) vgc wallet (i cannot find the right backup, still looking)... I can't believe I havent even had a chance to LOOK at bitcointalk in forever, but I still run VGC wallets and hoping to get miners running on a new machine I just got.

ANYWAYS, I know this whole thing has been stressful over the years but I have a proposition for those who still believe this can work.
What if we all start collecting smart contract coins Ethereum, EOS, Tezos, Algorand, and so many more chains that support tokens. Then we also need tokens for chain interoperabilities

AND THE |ULTIMATE GOAL BEING we organize an official transition to defi/decentralized exchange pegging OUR BLOCKCHAIN to a VGC stablecoin that is cross chain sendable/swappable (WE WOULD NEED FULLY AUDITED SMART CONTRACTS AND INPUT FROM EACH PLATFORM)?

Is this possible, i am thinking so... It could be our best shot. Let me know your opinions. How is everyone?

Long time no talk. Some inspiration for us today. Coinbase is doing an airdrop and Ripple is doing one too. It illustrates the power of airdrops in the FUTURE. This is a scam channel possibly posting a real video, I'm not sure. So beware. How cool would that be to give away 40 million dollars, for real. That would be cool

Edit: the original video was deleted. Basically tons of fake channels were streaming an old AMA from April last year. The description had a "giveaway" if you send bitcoin to an address you get 10x btc  back instantly.... all scams. This is out of control on YouTube right now. Sucks. Here's the original video. Let's hope coinbase adds us eventually.

ivanontech talks about this on a recent video... i think we are ok for now. as per usual, we still need a new block explorer and of course exchange. i have been so busy lately I have literally not been able to do anything yet.

Do inbound connections require a certain config setting? Or is this problem hardware related or service related?

This week microsoft sent multiple auto updates causing multiple restarts. It's a major security risk. Does anyone have instructions for a solid Linux install that will properly support the network. I tried on a Linux MINT machine and the dependencies didn't take well. I'll try on Ubuntu as github instructions suggest. But I did manage to get the windows wallet to run on MINT using WINE (and PlayOnLinux as the frontend), it's seems to be fine (stayed running through the windows updates while my other machines restarted), but I don't know if this is any worse than a regular Linux install. Any thoughts?

It looks like the network is completely dead. I will make a better VEGAS and anyone with old coins can swap them.

how do you define 'completely dead' ?
my fulltime wallet currently has 9 connections
Code:
        "addr" : "24.234.35.51:48842", (wsip-24-234-35-51.lv.lv.cox.net)
        "addr" : "217.175.119.125:57233", (net-217-175-119.ip125.koping.net)
        "addr" : "213.32.6.132:47626", (wallets2.mining-dutch.nl)
        "addr" : "78.109.23.2:10389", (2-23-109-78.hosting.ua)
        "addr" : "105.226.165.208:59937", (165-226-105-208.north.dsl.telkomsa.net)
        "addr" : "80.31.126.250:62969",
        "addr" : "71.38.192.169:60175", (71-38-192-169.lsv2.qwest.net)
        "addr" : "203.20.114.252:52400",
        "addr" : "83.40.149.60:63253", (60.red-83-40-149.dynamicip.rima-tde.net)

eight of them are 'inbound' connections, implying they are probably leaches who dont allow
inbound connections to themselves.
if people want a robust network they need to open up their firewall (and router) port 52400 to their daemon/wallets.

...and how do you swap coins if the network is completely dead? you need to move coins to swap them Smiley

i think they were trying to manipulate peoples connections (to try to make us think it was dead), my connections dropped a couple days ago, but i got them back... i will check my router's port forwarding too... i did it a long time ago but when i got a new router, i never changed any of the default settings. simple stuff like that can optimize performance.

my connections are back and mining is working. (same nodes).

It looks like the network is completely dead. I will make a better VEGAS and anyone with old coins can swap them.

more vegas projects from developers and you arent doing any work on this one.... why?

i am not a developer right now, i have limited coding ability, but I am a good learner and a few years of computer science already so I should be able to contribute with development in major ways at some point. I know that doesnt do anyone any good at this moment but I was going to setup vegascointalk so we could really build this idea together, and expand the community... miners are getting cheaper and better, there are more projects out there we can adapt to use with our coin.

i found a tutorial video for liquidus  block explorer setup (very easy)... i am going to try my hand at the linux install and see what i can do (still never heard back from cryptochat about block explorers)... everyone should have a look at it and see what other projects out there you can adapt for vegascoin. the hardest part is making sure your linux has all the needed dependencies. the tutorial really helps get a look at exactly how to do it.

i had a 24 hour internet outage and just left the miner and everything running until internet was restored... since then my connection count has been sitting at 1 (it was fluctuating between 7 and 11 before the outage). is it wiser in this situation to keep it running as is or should i restart the wallet and the miner (i am solo mining).  this is a theoretical problem, but even though i only have one connection right now, i still think it may be better just to let it keep running as it is (and it should catch up with the network, and start seeing more connections)... this is the first time this has happened to me.

never mine without at least two valid nodes connected to your wallet. you are pretty much guaranteed to fork if you do.

ok. thats a good call... i just figured the ISP would connect me back up to the same nodes... which it probly did... i restarted anyway. im up to 3 connections so doing better already, im sure ill be reconnected to more soon.

NOTE: i notice that my laptop using WIFI only gets 2 connections and my desktop which is wired gets more... this may be my laptop/router/ISP... (i moved the laptop wallet to the desktop and saw the connections jump. and i started a new laptop wallet and still only get 2... so other factors can affect your connection count.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] VGC - VegasCoin on: September 03, 2018, 01:06:32 PM
i did that and it hasnt synced anyway

sometimes a wallet gets connected to one or more 'bad' nodes and it interferes with downloading
the correct chain.
one possible thing to try in your config file is to remove all the addnode= lines and add:
  connect=address
rather than addnode=address

connect will cause your wallet/daemon to ONLY connect to the specified address(es) and not connect
to any others. you just need to find nodes you 'trust' and that they will allow incoming connections.
i suppose my node is fairly trustworthy Smiley
  connect=23.233.2.252
you can add other connects too.

once you are synched, edit those connects back to addnode because if those connect nodes become unavailable in the future you wont have any nodes at all.

whenever you edit your config file, you must stop and restart your wallet/daemon.
forgetting this step can waste you a lot of time. (what i really wanted to suggest in the first place, i added the above to seem less glib Smiley )

Kind of unfair for Nova to delist a coin when deposits for that coin have been disabled for 8 months. That alone could be enough to turn a quiet coin into a dead one. IMHO.

I know, our market data isnt even true when we are all unable to trade.

I think as long as we keep mining, and once I get vegascointalk.com going... I can properly introduce new people (local Vegas residents) how to mine coins. We can start to valuate what the actual value of these coins are (based on mining cost vs. demand).

There is a new scrypt ASIC that just hit the market, the R3-LTC wifi router/scrypt asic... it mines at 11 Mh/s and it is low power and very affordable... if just a few of these started mining on our network, we would be looking at a very different picture... Especially for non-technical people that can mine 24/7 at little to no cost.

Keep all this in mind.

I also heard recently that Litecoin is going to have support on some new phones that will actually run a full node from the phone... as far as development, THIS COIN needs to be legit... we need to see what ACTUALLY works for Litecoin and then adapt those developments to Vegascoin once they have been fully tested... no need to upgrade this client a million times, while we are still mining it just fine. If it was no good to begin with, no one would have started.

its on nova exchange until the 23rd. theres actually a bunch avail for 1 satoshi right now.

Luckily Nova is adding new assets every week, and apparently they have SAVED assets (that were going to be delisted) BEFORE. So there is a chance we can stay on or get back on later.

Unfortunately, I cannot trade right now, otherwise I would buy all those cheap VGC.

a bitcoin wrapped car that was parked in the Hooters Casino (basically on the Vegas Strip) last night...
wouldnt some vegascoin wrapped cars be awesome in the future?

one idea I have been exploring (since we last bounced the idea around here about our own casino)...
Instead of a literal Vegas casino, what if instead we could organize our own online poker tournaments with VGC awarded to the winner, this would probably onboard serious poker players into our community... this could even extend to golf tournaments, or videogame tournaments (Luxor has a new Esports arena for videogame tournaments of all types and they have a professional broadcast studio people can rent for their podcast or youtube or to broadcast the event..), theres all types of competitions that could award VGC. these could become popular annual competitions

so many things we can do... eventually.

i never heard back about the block explorer, so we are still looking...
vegascointalk.com is coming soon (i just dont know how soon) so we can brainstorm, and break discussions into their own threads (and remove trolls). I am just super busy lately, it will be worth the wait. dont worry.

when i try to download wallet antivirus allerts. avast says mallware in it. i checked with virustotal a lot of miner trojan warning i got. what is wrong with wallet file.

Its a false positive, some antiviruses do that with crypto wallets & mining software...

funny story: when I installed (what i thought was better) antivirus to my computer that already had tons of crypto wallets on it,,,  (it was Norton Antivirus, i think), it immediately alerted me I had like 100 trojan viruses and they were in all my crypto wallets and every instance of cgminer and bfgminer on the computer and then I had to go through and ignore the threats individually, and it wasnt easy, each one opened a whole new screen in order to ignore it... so like 100 screens to get the antivirus to ignore them. totally ridiculous.

What are the main advantages and mission of VegasCoin? What do the bitcoiners think about VegasCoin?

decentralized based on bitcoin/litecoin.
bitcoiners are most likely bitcoiners. if they have scrypt miners (which is different from bitcoin sha256 miners), they may be interested in contributing hashing power. the mining is interesting. and when they are available from exchange(s), you can usually get a fantastic deal (compared to trying to mine them yourself).

i need to move my coins off nova. is there a working wallet i can download?

I think Vegascoin is a dead coin with no dev, not much of a community left, and soon to have no exchange to trade on.

i hope this doesnt happen.
its kind of hard for US customers to trade there right now. thats a major reason for low exchange volume recently...
if we get delisted, hopefully we can be reconsidered once US customers are allowed again.

network hashes per second is pretty high right now...
we still have a long way until next block reward halving...
