1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Rack for my Antminers S9 on: August 07, 2018, 05:00:05 PM
As I've seen there is no issues with them as plate is strong and welds are done as they should. Original vent screws are long enough if you're not using intakes, if you are using intakes like I did, you need to get a bit longer ones (depends how much is intake thickness).

Those metal rack adapters are nice, would they support the miners if they were mounted horizontally?

Hi,

I'm just an mining wannabee, so I've bought some S9 some time ago. Had constant heating problems with them and space limitation, noise problems, unhappy wife, so not ideal conditions at all... Smiley

Wish to share my experiences.

Initially I've created wooden box for 3pcs bought last year. First box was made from our missing cat's house, which was not the best solution... Smiley Next I've made a bigger wooden box again and put some insulation/noise reduction foam inside, which actually did reduced noise levels for about 20db when closed.

I did design and 3D make intakes and exhausts to mount on antminers. I do not recommend PLA at all (luckily I didn't used it, also not PLA "fire" as they will deform thru time. PETG seems to work overtime. Not sure how airflow thru intake (and exhaust) actually helps in performance (eg. air delivery) as I did no test, but are made close to turbine's in/outs, plus it's much easier to connects the air hoses/tubes.

I had issues with overheating as incoming heat (had air delivery from outside) affected the miners, so I've let room air inside and temperatures imeediately dropped to about +-80 degs, measured +-85degs now in hottest summer days.

Then I've made Y connector for 120mm air tube as miners increased and the size of the room window remains the same... :S So, now I have 2:1 Y on exhausts and it actually performs really well, no any raised heating issues.

Off course I had no more room in the old box so I had to think for another solution.

On the end I've made custom antminer metal racks for my miners, based on 19inch server casings with 7U height. There is room for 3 miners (tested with S9/S91, maybe S7 also fits in there), plus 3 PSU's, all nicely set. Miners and PSU are screwed directly to the rack.

Also I thought that for my room it's better that miners are fit in vertical position instead horizontal and for me it made all easier to set up. Changed air hoses to insulated + noise reduction ones. Made again another box from previous one, got also 4cm insulated panels and new box was born. Working perfectly on smaller area than before.

On the end I've added some cooling for the box itself, got 2x 3000rpm 120mm vents. All good now.  Cheesy

I'm planning to order some more racks, if anyone interested too can PM me.

Thank you for your comments. Wink
