There are a number of free faucets that you cam use to earn fractions of BTC and others, though some people question the amount of time put in for the reward you get back.  Selling something or offering a service for BTC is usually the best way I have found.

One quick point, have a look at Devcoin, they reward writers coins for writing articles in the wiki https://www.devtome.com/doku.php
