1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What are your top 3 Altcoins to SHORT? on: September 11, 2018, 11:16:30 PM
For market conditions like this, it is difficult to predict coins for the short term, but what we saw for bcd, doge and bch experienced a very high increase yesterday maybe these three coins are worth making in the short term
Just to be clear, you are saying those make good SHORTs right now, right?

I kind of agree.  BCD feels very ripe to short right now.

Does any exchange have margin trading for it yet?
AAAAA I also got on him and probably for a long time. I took $ 30
On which exchange are you shorting it?

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins You Think will Grow on: September 08, 2018, 12:43:05 AM
I am long ADA, BTC, and MRT right now.

The ones I am feeling the least excited about are: EOS and ETH.

(I always thought ETH was a little overbought.)  I just don't see what EOS has on ADA.  Would love to hear opinions on that.

I don't think that "big name" influencers are a very good investment, honestly.  I think something more grassroots, which Merit appears to have seems  like a better approach, honestly.

It does seem like one of the only ANN threads here that is not dominated by bots - which is a pretty good sign already.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What keeps you motivated to Hodl? on: August 29, 2018, 08:31:38 PM
To me, it is all about global uncertainty.  The world is shifting to populism and "closed borders."  But the core driver our world economy is none other than technology!

So, my thinking is this: "if the the backbone of the economy is tech, which is inherently global, but the masses seem to want to close borders... we've got an opportunity on our hands."

People with money and power don't really like being told what to do.  That's why I think we're seeing a shift (from many very wealthy people) into crypto.  I think that shift is not over yet.

Can we blame these developers for doing this?  The ecosystem, today, rewards marketing and hype.. not necessarily great fundamental projects.

Hah, my question is rhetorical, of course.  I think it is fundamentally unethical to take money from investors if you do not have an intent on building a real product.

At the same time, I wonder why we make it so darned easy for them! =/
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When will ICOs die? on: August 28, 2018, 09:26:20 PM
In the most basic sense, I think ICOs are alive today.

But, more figuratively, I think they are dead.   (Or should die soon?)

The best kept secret about ICOs is that they are fundamentally centralized.  An entity is actually selling you the crypto.  One single entity.  And, in most cases (though not all), that crypto is not yet developed.  Instead, they have a placeholder ERC20 token.

I'm not a huge fan of law and legislation, but I have to say: if you are buying a token that is a promise for something that is supposed to be valuable in the future, that feels a lot like a security.

And finally, it's important to mention that Satoshi never did any kind of ICO.  Instead, Satoshi made bitcoin work (with the help of an amazing community), and then simply released it.   That, to me, is how decentralization should work.
