1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: mtgox.com = "MySQL error, please retry later" on: June 26, 2011, 03:49:36 PM
They're getting slammed right now, I'm sure. Hopefully they can get off the ground pretty soon. I'd take a couple failed page loads, but the site needs to be functional despite the high load to be expected for a few hours.

Not everyone has the means to freely move money from Mt.Gox to Tradehill easily. There will be some buyers on Mt.Gox. You could look at it from the other perspective that the price won't drop past 15BTC because sellers have had their run on Tradehill as well.

I think you underestimate how much it could fluctuate. Remember, opening price is going to be 17.51 on Mt.Gox.

I think perhaps you could change/add a CNAME record from www to bittalk.tv

I really don't know if that's right, though. Some confirmation from someone more experienced than myself would be helpful.

Forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't this be done through your domain registration service? I've registered a domain before and I could set up redirects through the registrar.

What mining pool are you using? Is your Internet connection shoddy?
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet.dat - How Do I find it? on: June 15, 2011, 10:00:22 PM
What can I do with the file?
It's your private key, guard it with your life if you put any appreciable amount of money "into" it. If anybody else gets access to that file at any time, they can steal your BTC at any time. Meaning I could copy your wallet.dat now, wait for you to gather a shitton of BTC, and steal everything a year later.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Problem with Deepbit on: June 15, 2011, 08:44:22 PM
I don't use Deepbit anymore personally because of its super high fees (BTC Guild ftw!), but there are a couple things that could cause what you're observing. First, Deepbit could be malfunctioning. Second, I'd be willing to bet you have your earning setting set to proportional rather than pay-per-share. I recommend proportional because the fees are lower and in the long term it evens out, but in the short term you may not see any updates to your balance. Also, your balance is updated every hour on the hour, so that may also be the cause.

With your current computer, you're going to want to join a mining pool. Read about that here:  https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Pooled_mining. You'll also want to get set up with a GPU miner. You might check this wiki article out: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/DiabloMiner.app
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is with the sudden decline in BTC value? on: June 15, 2011, 04:36:21 PM
Everyone called them on their bullshit and the price of silver normalized. They pledged collateral in their various investments to back this gamble, they lost an estimated $4 billion when everything was said and done.
This is precisely why I believe people thinking the intentional manipulation of BTC value is occurring are wrong. It would end up burning them in the end because they'd have to buy and sell at the wrong times.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: June 15, 2011, 04:02:01 PM
Hello there, I'm a newcomer to this forum obviously, but I've been playing with bitcoin now for a few months. I just happened to have a 5750 gpu, so I quickly put that to work making me some money. In total, I've mined a pretty good amount considering my GPU isn't spectacular and I bought some BTC just before Coinpal shut down. I'm just now starting to trade BTC. Can't wait to get out of the newbie sandbox.
