11  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: New AMD APUs... [AMD A8-Series] on: July 05, 2011, 02:21:18 PM
It'll be about 92% of a 5570, or about 55 MH/s. Smiley

I have a 5570 and can do 200+ Mh/S... Unless a 92% means something different now, there is a problem somewhere.

no way a card with 400 sps can do 200 mhash.  the 5770 has 800 and it can do 200mhash with overclock.

my best guess would be somewhere between 50-75mhash/sec, and honestly i think 75 would be a super extreme top end. more realistic is 50-60mhash.  Sadly the cpu isnt as good as i had hoped, and while yes, if you are in a situation where you need to rely on integrated graphics, nothing even remotely comes close, but if you're building a mining pc, then sempron is much more cost effective way to go, and if you're building a gaming/mining pc then you're much better off getting an i3/i5 or a Phenom II 955 Black.

Now granted, this is just my opinion.  if you feel that buying a $130 processor for an extra 50-60mhash is worth it, then by all means, the A8 is for you.  If you need to build a super cost effective low end gaming machine... again the A8 is for you.  If you dont fit into either one of those, then you're best bet is to get one of the other cpus i mentioned.
13  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / AMD Llano thoughts regarding mining. on: June 27, 2011, 03:17:05 PM
all of the initial Llano discussion has got me very intrigued.  supposedly it competing for the middle/low end of the market, which i hope makes it pretty affordable.

i really hope the performance is decent enough, because I'm going to be building a dual purpose box soon for both gaming and mining.

Getting an extra 400 cores would be a lovely arrangement, that i'd be willing to consider for the loss of a little performance on the cpu end (in relation to the i5 2500k).  saving money would also be nice.

so my question is, are miners interested in this new cpu?  looks like AMD is going to continue to be the miners friend for quite some time.

fairly bad.. probably 50mhash/sec

4650's should be able to pull 30 mhash/sec pretty consistantly... just make sure the only flags you use are -w32
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dual 6950's on: June 16, 2011, 06:42:45 PM
i think i originally did my estimates based on 1.2mil difficulty, which is probably a pretty sure thing before the month is out...
not really sure if there's a solid way to project what will happen in july.. I mean.. even if I was only returning $100-$200/mo it would eventually pay itself off

oh.. and we have really cheep power here... $0.08 /kWh
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 5770 vs 5830 on: June 16, 2011, 05:39:23 PM
where did you buy them???
i'd love to get my hands on a few of the 58xx cards
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Dual 6950's on: June 16, 2011, 04:56:25 PM
Is there a good chance that dropping $400-500 on dual 6950's would pay themselves off within a month or two?
paying off the hardware I think would be all really *require*, and I think this is kind of a fun experiment to see where it leads.

i'm guessing that 2x 6950's would net me around 675-700 mhash/sec  (someone please correct me on this if wrong)
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5740G - OpenCL support? on: June 16, 2011, 04:46:22 PM
i was gpu mining briefly on a acer laptop with a 5650 graphics card it in...
but 5740G doesnt sound like the graphics card designation but the acer laptop designation..
might want to check msi afterburner or device manager to see what you're actually running.
20  Other / Beginners & Help / New to Mining on: June 15, 2011, 06:54:25 PM
So a buddy of mine have been doing some researching and proof of concepts to make sure that we could actually generate bitcoins and take it all the way through cashing out.  We were successful, but it took quite a while (neither of us have decent mining hardware).

Since all off the "best" mining cards (5830, 5850, 6990, etc) are tough to get... my question is what is my next best option?

I was looking at possibly running 2x 6950's (new non-reference 1gb ones).

at the moment i'm only looking to run 2 cards (maybe a 3rd in a pci-e 1x slot later).

Here is what i'm currently looking to purchase with an ~$600 budget:
Case   http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119227
MB      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157226
Cards  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150523
PS      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339002

I'm also guessing that this would get me somewhere around 700 Mhash/sec

since I already have an older AM2 socket processor and 4gb of DDR2 memory and 500gb HD i'd like to reuse those (from a slimline case... which i can toss)

Are there better options that I'm not seeing?
