1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - January 2020 on: July 31, 2020, 10:06:52 AM
@Sundance__
Articles on crypto "news" sites about new equipment and companies are typically all but useless. Very few sites check 'news' that is submitted to them and in fact usually are 'pay to print'. Until gear is in the hands of trusted members here and reviewed by them consider all reports as at least highly suspicious.

Very reasonable. Ok, I have no attachment to them I just like to see competitors.

Both Cheetah's F7 and StrongU Ut-U8 look interesting at their advertised W/T but I admit I have not seen any concrete evidence they actually exist.
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - January 2020 on: July 29, 2020, 12:24:42 PM
agreed with the method

ultimately i was posting to actually necro it for you and it was the only piece of genuine info i could offer so i am glad Smiley

I am not suggesting anything about Cheetah other than I know they exist as there's F5s out there

https://xueqiu.com/6573887165/152139326. This article has quite a bit on them and their team.
3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolinminer & Whatsminer FAQs on: July 29, 2020, 09:03:44 AM
I think Dr Yang, CEO(?) is still in police custody, which is not ideal.

But are whatsminer still shipping and manufacturing all good?

thnx
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - January 2020 on: July 29, 2020, 08:59:18 AM
Then there is the cheetah miner f7!
Shipping this month does 39W/T.

Curious whether people have had any experience with them?

Anyone want to Necro this thread ? I'll help. Or is it somewhere else?

Does anyone know how many chips these have?
7  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Smaller PPLNS pools getting hammered by halving, rebound after? on: October 29, 2019, 10:36:23 AM
Total noob question, sorry to chime in here, but did anyone ever come across a good explanation of the different pool payout structures? Some of them are so oddly worded the only way I feel like you would understand it is through using them but I'm not currently in a position to do that..

Thnx
8  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Current Bitmain Hardware Dump 10/13/19. Very ugly at 10c kWh to ROI Ever! POLL! on: October 14, 2019, 12:18:33 PM
Two thoughts, whatever mine are worth..
That OP considers 10c a deserving electricity price to mine at gives me the feeling they've a lot more research to do, I mean that constructively not entirely dismissively!

That I am new myself (and couldnt even work out how to vote in the poll) but I think OP is very much correct that Bitmain is dirty tactics through and through. However the article is very strange, Jihan is no longer CEO for example, at least I thought that was the case? Also 5 nanometer just sounds like nonsense for now?
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain to release S17E 64TH on: September 23, 2019, 10:45:50 AM
I'm suggesting that the T model is basically just as reliable but it is in some way a model made from the less desirable cuts from wafers. Could there be in any thing resembling the truth in this or am I completely off the mark? I've not paid attention to mining for two months and I've forgotten a lot it seems.

Long story short: What is the fundamental difference between the T and S series?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I was wondering if anyone had any remarks on the much more wildly speculative part of my post. Whether it works out that the T model is just a model made in lesser quantities from the mishandled/malformed parts? Surely there are waste/scrap parts from making an S model that are still somewhat valuable? Bitmain is too 'insert adjective depending on your opinion of bitmain' to throw away?
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain to release S17E 64TH on: September 19, 2019, 12:02:10 PM
Hi guys,

So I could not think where else to put this but reading about the S17e and T17e on a Chinese website:

Quote
It is reported that the standard calculation power of S17e is 64TH/S, the energy efficiency ratio is 45J/T, the standard calculation power of T17e is 53TH/S, and the energy efficiency ratio is 55J/T. With high computing power, low power consumption, strong stability and high cost performance, the S17e and T17e are on the market. According to official website data, the ant mining machine S17e is only 1 minute from the time of sale to sale.

*Sorry for translation by google, and if there is better translated info but it's just a quick question..

I used to get the impression, and I think I have read, that the T9 model was like the more reliable version of the S9 model. It's cheaper, and lesser in every way but somehow I got the impression, and maybe I did not read but somewhere along the way made up, that the T model is the more reliable miner. Reliable in the sense, and only this sense, that it does not break as much and is longer-lasting if not necessarily more hardy.

Reading this section in Chinese it just strikes me, as someone who may not understand the process particularly well, that the T model is just a weaker version of the S model as a result of something on the assembly line. I'm suggesting that the T model is basically just as reliable but it is in some way a model made from the less desirable cuts from wafers. Could there be in any thing resembling the truth in this or am I completely off the mark? I've not paid attention to mining for two months and I've forgotten a lot it seems.

11  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has China’s authority classified cryptocurrency mining? on: April 30, 2019, 02:35:36 PM
So the chinese government encourage until the 7th May for miners to come forward and contribute to the conversation...

So on both occasions of the Chinese Govt acting on domestic mining they want the miners to reveal themselves,
first miners are banned unless they are registered
second miners will be banned unless they come forward and propose good on their contributions

So, a paranoid reading would be that... the Chinese government want to just know who and where you are. Though I don't think its necessarily the case at all, at this price point, I don't see it as unreasonable but the Chinese Govt wouldn't then just seize the mines themselves and operate them themselves...
like I assume has happened with miners confiscated in Venezuela, and like China the miners have to register with the government,
Like I bet also has happened to miners confiscated entering South East Asia,
Like I bet will happen to the mines that have been trapped in Iran by being lured with cheap power

Anyone think any of this is likely at all?
12  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has China’s authority classified cryptocurrency mining? on: April 24, 2019, 09:11:10 AM
You all might just say China is rehashing its approach to the ban  Grin

But, I have a friend who lives in Sichuan and they said the renewed approach to Bitcoin has very much been taken at face value and seriously, at least for the time being & current price levels, on the surface, people will not risk it...

[epistemic status: conjecture, moving from anecdote, lol] of course it doesn't mean established mines will not just have to up their bribes and keep business open as usual.
13  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Do Bitcoin miners care about renewable energy? on: April 04, 2019, 02:25:32 PM
Really, the wrong place to be asking, but, well, um...

What are peoples thoughts on Nuclear power? Do you think Nuclear could be big in mining Bitcoin in the future at all as coal and other 'dirties' get priced out?
14  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why will this ½ ing be different that all the older ones for the miners of btc? on: April 03, 2019, 05:47:32 PM
I was honestly loling at the thought myself ^
5,2 enroute
15  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why will this ½ ing be different that all the older ones for the miners of btc? on: April 01, 2019, 05:58:34 PM
It's weird for me this is my first halving as an active participant. I made my mind up on what I am expecting, it's an incredibly narrow look at things overall. Thinking about these things is why I have decided to get myself to capacity sooner rather than later for my personal mining. This way by the halving my machines won't owe me anything

I expect the block reward to be cut in half. I know very bold statement but I think I can stick by that.  Wink

Seriously though,

I think pricewise is is going to look like September to December 2017, before the halving. Not necessarily the same ATH, but maybe around 13 000$.
I believe we will see a large increase in hashrate leading up to the halving, from people throwing not necessarily profitable machines online to earn as many coins as possible. They will be banking on a price spike after the halving.
Immediately after the halving we are likely to see a pretty good drop in hashrate; more than the increase leading into it. I think that many people are going to become non-profitable shortly after the halving. Unless there is a large sustained rise in price to offset the lower mining rewards.

My biggest hope, is that with the block reward cut. Certain pools will stop mining empty blocks, or their miners realize how stupid it is to mine at these pools.

Haha, i was thinking 'yes, first guy on the hook to share thoughts' and then... (in bold)... I was thinking just about this is all i can predict too!

I hear a lot of confidence about the price going up, i) its happened before previously ii) the coin supply halves therefore we need to have people selling only at double their previous biting point in production... but... why? Why can't it just be they go out of business at that point? Why can't leading up to it can it not lead to depression of confidence as miners know they need to halve their production costs or have the price double..

Surely confidence is down and I see the halvening as mysterious and an amplifier of whatever sentiment there is at the time, i am typically skeptical person (read: pessimist?) but I can't see how with limited change in utility [tick!], limited change in adoption [tick!], and overall negative/bearish sentiment [tick!] how the fact that half as many coins will be issued can be a good thing, I would like to be shown both here in arguments and later in reality that I was wrong Smiley

My overall feeling is: its a shock and its curious and so it will just double down on whatever the market sentiment is overall.
16  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Rumor that Bitmain is going belly up! can't pay its chip builder! on: April 01, 2019, 03:41:25 PM
If ASICMiner hadn't fallen apart before the BE300 got past engineering samples they'd have been the best thing on the market for several months. Demonstrated efficiency was better than the S5, with bottom clock almost on par with the S7 which rolled out nine months later. Those chips are the reason I started building miners.

ASICMiner's problems were managerial shortcomings, not technical. Bitmain's problems are managerial overreach and greed. Different problems, different people.

I didn't know to what extent, but contrary to the post above yours, i did not think friedcat was incompetent like they suggest

anyway @phillipma
I didn't know where to ask, since i thought it should be public anyway, but can you start a thread on speculating what you expect the halvening to do? People i know in the industry are confident. "we've been here before and it went well". I only started following Bitcoin like this recently, I'd love some thoughts from you and others that have ridden out the past halvenings versus what you think will happen this time similarly/dissimilarly.
17  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Rumor that Bitmain is going belly up! can't pay its chip builder! on: April 01, 2019, 10:56:14 AM
Also Friedcat was technically competent, if I recall correctly..

Whereas Jihan is the business side of the duo behind Bitmain.
18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how much do you pay for electricity? on: March 29, 2019, 12:58:33 PM
why not start by enjoying the situation for a bit and build up incrementally if you insist.. it sounds like starting with 1 or 2 mines is a good idea, see if you get caught, then its not so hard to sell.. these things are on 24/7 which i assume even your AC is not on more than 12 hours a day..?
19  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Rumor that Bitmain is going belly up! can't pay its chip builder! on: March 13, 2019, 02:27:43 PM
I think excellion and worse btcking555 get a bit of a free pass based on the fact that 'we' all hate bitmain.. I don't mean to lump the two in the same camp in terms of what they actually post(though i would speculate they are the same or similar/shared entity) as btcking555 is much more ludicrous... I haven't observed that much from excellion that was correct// i keep meaning to go back through and fact check.. as u say.. plenty . of claims made all the time by SM
20  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: December 13, 2018, 11:08:51 AM
yup and alongside the texas links also mined with them in Labrador, Canada, see Google: https://www.greatnorthdata.com/

and they were definitely in on mining in Quebec even if this subject does keep them anonymous and article only suspects them https://www.forbes.com/sites/astanley/2018/10/01/the-future-of-bitcoin-mining-in-quebec-could-rest-on-mondays-parliamentary-elections/#6cf9a1d464f6
