nevermind, forget it. getting all my updates deleted now, so ill just keep it as a personal project.

going to use my thermal camera to check for other hot spots on the stick, as ill be coating the whole think lightly in silicone sealer as i dont want any condensation killing it.

will post more later this week as i continue to make the cooling plate  Cheesy

Small update, the sacrificial 2PAC has arrived today.
Will get on to marking up the copper plates and tapping the mounting holes.
Once that's started, i will post preliminary mounting pics  Grin

https://ibb.co/i3hzpq

here is the preliminary test of the TEC mounted on the bottom of the cooler.

needs to be mounted a little stronger, but a nice check to make sure everything fits before i start maing a mount for it.

me and phil are with bravo mining.
i havnt got anything as yet, but i have only been at it with 1 stick for about a month.. and stick 2 added yesterday.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / 2PAC extreme cooling / overclocking on: November 19, 2018, 08:43:54 PM
After Scryptr made a passing joke about having a peltier/TEC, i decided to go out and do it.

I have got 2x 40x40mm copper plates, 3mm thick to be heatsinks for the hot and cold side.
a 12704 60w TEC, and a nice large heatpipe AMD cooler.

the TEC will be run from a 5A 12v charger, and the 2PAC will have a 5v 4A wired into it to make sure i have enough ampage to keep it powered once i start going silly with the overclock.

everything will be sealed with silicone sealent to stop condensation.

the unlucky 2pac will be arriving this week. will follow up with more pics and findings as i go.

(i wont come crying to you if i blow it up sidehack) lol

come on mac, you saw what i said after this.
it wasnt a dig at you or sidehack. it was all aimed at the sales and legal bullshit that raises costs of everything in the EU.

there is much much love for sidehack and people like urself supporting and distributing this awesome toy ^_^
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 15, 2018, 03:38:38 PM
will it be aptly named "NEWERPAC" ?
love these little toys your making sidehack. you reckon the newer stick will use the same size and format as the last 2?
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 14, 2018, 04:51:08 PM
duly noted sir sidehacks.
ill use my 2Pac to rig up the mounting plates and tune the cooler... then once the newpac is in my neck of the woods, i can transplant it to the new stick.

lol, calm down sidehack.. was only in jest..
you're doing an awesome job with these newpac/2pac sticks.. just a lil moan about europes pricing, not what your doing. ^_^
please dont think it was aimed at you.

(PS, the TEC cooled 2pac is already in progress. just waiting on a few parts)

sometimes i hate being in europe.. if i was a yank, i could get a 2pac for $40 (35euro)... but if i want to get one from a legit euro seller, it is 80euros. ($90).. life isnt fair Sad

Sidehack, are your 2pac sticks always green?
only reason i ask is... you know i told you about the $150+ 2pacs being sold in the UK, well they are all black ones.
they also have the gekkoscience logo. :/ another copy methinks?
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 07, 2018, 11:52:00 AM
ok, small update.
found the TEC, a nice 15x30mm unit that can displace 17.8W of heat. the 2pac at 1.55v will be about 14w of heat (a guesstimate)
this TEC will fit nicely between the original mounting bolt -the center bolt. so mounting shall be easy.

Have a 2mm copper plate to put on the chip side of the TEC to spread the heat too.

Dont think ill bother with a back side cooler as the TEC will pump enough cooling to the chips anyway.

this is going to be totally impractical and go against the reason of having a 2pac (silent, power efficient mining), but its gonna be fun lol.

i will keep updates flowing on this sidehack..

as for what scryptr posted.. this has made my head go all silly.

I remember back when i had my old socket 478 P4, with a 200w TEC and a custom water loop (taken from a fish tank and a aircon exchange radiator)

now, i want to get myself a 2nd 2pac if i can get one cheap enough in UK (as i might possibly kill it)
i will get a 15x30mm TEC (about 30w), powered by an old laptop charger i have laying about.

pop an old heatpipe cooler on the top of that, and the stock 2pac cooler on the back. seal it all up with silicone glue to stop condensation.

will probably need to use tension clips to hold it together, as the TEC will block the bolts :/

will remove the 5v feed from the USB port and solder in a 5v 4A charger instead that i have so i dont have to worry about not enough power getting to the unit.

once thats all done, i can crank up the voltage, and see how far it will go hahahah.

not practical, but going to be bloody fun anyway.... i miss the oldskool computer setups.. this will be fun ^_^

once i have a TEC and a new 2pac, ill make a new post with my step by step journey.
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: November 06, 2018, 11:42:48 AM
im using the stock screws, being a copper base... the stock screws were strong enough to tap the holes.
im  running them at 250mhz still, but its alot more stable and drawing alot less from the usb hub (probably why its stable now)

once i get a few days out of the stick stable.. ill ramp up the voltage a little and try 275.  i seem to have lost the silicone lottery a little, as this stick needs more volts that others have mentioned to get is stable Sad

at least i now have the cooling to keep the voltage under control Cheesy

will post updates as and when they arrive

ps, might use the old cooler on the back of the stick using some of those thick heat pads you usually get on gfx card ram Smiley  just need to find longer screws with the same thread

just thought id pop this on here to give you all a little laugh..

decided to change the cooler on the 2pac. (yes, i know warranty goes out the window lol)

got an old heatpipe cooler from an old socket7 AMD CPU, drilled the mounting holes into the baseplate, and popped it on with some liquid metal thermal paste. seems to work a treat Wink

15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 30, 2018, 04:56:11 PM
yup, thats me on the bravo miner lol..
just waiting for a little cash before i buy myself a NEWPAC or 2.. (wedding payments come first lol)

16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 25, 2018, 01:16:26 PM
grabbed my multimeter, checked the voltage. was set to 1.61v  Cry

brought it back down to 1.275v and now it seems to be cool enough to touch with a light breeze across it. also, running at 175mhz now.
seems stable and cool at last.. crazy how it arrived with such a crazy high voltage

thanks for all the help guys, you have been great at helping this muppet haha.
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 25, 2018, 12:34:16 PM
thanks for the pool change info, running alot smoother now.

only issue i have left.. this thing is STUPID hot, almost get 3rd degree burns if i touch the heatsink. could it of arrived with the voltage set too high?

i have a 120mm fan ducted and pointing all its air towards the stick.. im sure it shouldnt be THIS hot lol.
18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 25, 2018, 08:16:20 AM

also, just a quick check.. is this normal? not understanding why it keeps saying request restart. :/
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 25, 2018, 08:04:46 AM
thanks for the info sidehack..
also, jsays, after i edited the bat file to put a space in after the freq setting... everything works fine.

....now, time to find WHY its so friggin hot.. even running 100mhz, with a 120mm fun funneled towards it, its almost too hot to touch :/
20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac/Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 24, 2018, 05:44:12 PM
thanks for the heads up on that muppet mistake i made on the spacing.

more advanced question... is the PCB for the 2pac and the NEWpac the same?
if i had a few bm1387 chips floating about, could i remove the 1384's and switch them to 1387? just an out there question lol.
