How do I tell cgminer to ignore a specific USB device?
...
By the way, the original Icarus has
  iManufacturer 'Prolific Technology Inc. '
  iProduct 'USB-Serial Controller D'

What does your device have?
You get that info with cgminer -n

Thanks for the quick response Kano!  I'll try editing usbutils.c .

I'm not certain what you're asking for.  The entire output of cgminer -n is in my original post.  I would be happy to investigate further if you guide me.

Thanks again,

How do I tell cgminer to ignore a specific USB device?

cgminer is recognizing a non ASIC miner device and continually attempts to initialize it.

Here's what cgminer -n sees:
Code:
C:\Temp\cgminer-3.3.1-windows>cgminer.exe -n

For those folks that are still confused about message signing, here is a post I wrote up a few weeks ago that has quite a bit of detail and explanations.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=223713.msg2351293#msg2351293

Anyway - I hope it helps someone.

Canary,

Updating the status of verified messages in your original post like you have done in group 1 and 2 and now in group 4 serves two purposes. Many of us see that post long before we check PM. Once verified we can also stop worrying about it. I had trouble sending a verified message intially because I was a newbie. I'm certain I could do it flawlessly now. However, I don't want to send you a second one lest I just confuse the issue. So I am waiting for you to update the original post for group 3. I know you have a day job. Frankly I don't know how you can handle this load. Keep it up. Thanks.
Well said!
I had so much trouble just not understanding that you could send a verified message from an address without sending a payment...So it jailed me for a week!
You guys are right, this whole send message with payment as opposed to just sign any message with an address and send the text is confusing everyone... that's got to be it, I can totally see how it's confusing...

--- i'm going to be incognito for 1 hr, need to finish entering shipping info into insurance system... got 1 hr till cutoff

Canary,

After my newbie confusion and the signed message snafu, I wrote up a HOW TO and posted it to the newbie section.  It may eliminate some confusion.  Feel free to link to it.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / HOW TO: Sign and verify messages on: June 02, 2013, 07:05:18 PM
I recently had the need to sign a message and the lack of a clear explanation about the "how to", and the "what is it doing" was very frustrating.  I had to piece together the answers.

So, with that being said, here is my attempt at answering the questions above for the benefit of others.  All feedback (errors, omissions, etc...) is welcome.

First some nomenclature clarifications:

Send Address:  This is the BTC address of the seller/person that you are sending BTC to.
Sending Address: This is YOUR address (in your wallet known as a receive address) that the BTC is coming from.
Receive Address: This is YOUR address (also known as the Sending Address when you send BTC) that the BTC is coming to when you receive BTC

The "How to":

I will use the bitcoin-qt wallet (v0.8.2-beta) for reference.

In your wallet, click on the Receive button and locate the "Sign Message" button at the bottom.

Click on the "Sign Message" button to open the sign message window

Find your Sending address:

If you have a single address in the Receive window - that's it, your Sending Address.  If you have multiple addresses in the Receive window like in the example above, you can go to https://blockchain.info/ and search for your last transaction.

Once you know your sending address, select it from your addresses in the sign message window.

Write your message in the message area.

Generate a signature by clicking on the Sign Message button.

NOTE: Once you generate a signature, DO NOT modify anything in the Sign Message window.  If you do, the signature becomes invalid.

Now that you have the signature, SELECT, COPY, and PASTE the Sending address, Message, and Signature into a private message or email to the merchant for the merchant to verify.

I suggest the following format for the PM or email however the merchant may have other requirements.

Sending Address:
13FquMwkrDwj2yYFp2XJSgf4uKbfLbzTPc

Message:
---BEGIN WITH LINE BELOW ----
PulsarAV just sent you 40 BTC for the purchase of 20 Block Erupter USB Miners

Please ship to:
PulsarAV
1234 Anywhere Street
AnyCity, AnyState, AnyZip

Thanks,
---END WITH LINE ABOVE---

Signature:
HNtryLdIkjfWZ/8jGzoH255Aa96xG3sa+j5/XrrAjoL3NZ6YoseNMvYxRpBZNlwK+TeJP/JASJijHozKpUlXa8w=

The "What is it doing?":

The bitcoin wallet takes the information you provide (Sending Address and Message) and generates a unique cryptological Key (the signature).
The merchant takes the same information and copies it into the Verify window of his wallet and the wallet's algorithm verifies the message came from your wallet.  This proves you own that address and the BTC came from you.

I hope this helps someone avoid the frustration I had when trying to figure out the Sign Message feature of Bitcoin.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / WTF Transactions?? Help! on: March 29, 2013, 03:51:44 AM
I'm looking at my BTC transactions at blockchain.info and see a couple of strange ones.  They don't show up in my wallet transaction list but they are part of the blockchain and the amounts indicated came out of my wallet.

Anyone have a definitive answer as to what these unknown transactions are and why BTC's were transferred out of my wallet without my knowledge? I'm assuming that the unknown transactions are linked somehow to my known transactions.

Address: ...TPc is mine

Address: ...s9T is unknown         (I did not initiate or know about this transaction - the only record is in the blockchain)
Address: ...R3x is known (and the amount I told my wallet to transfer is correct)

Address: 2Tv is unknown         (I did not initiate or know about this transaction - the only record is in the blockchain)
Address: hjL is known (and the amount I told my wallet to transfer is correct)

Thanks!
