Hello I was not able to get miniz working with nicehash. Here is the error I receive:

[ERROR  ] Socket Operation now in progress:connect
gethostbyname: Success
[WARNING] Cannot connect to stratum+tcp pool, reconnect in 60 seconds!

Here are my launch options:
miniZ --url mybtcaddress@stratum+tcp://zhash.usa.nicehash.com:3369 --pers auto

Also tried some other pers options and region servers with the same results.

Just wanted to report my 1060s have been running great on the newest version. Approximately 5% faster than i++, and the problem cards have not been having the same issue. Thank you for the excellent work.

Hello, I believe I found a regression that explains why my 1060s were running slower on newest versions.

Two of my cards have poor thermal performance and run hot. I have noticed that on one of my rigs MiniZ runs the hot cards in a different algorithm configuration (the vram usage is higher and the wattage is lower). However, in the other of my rigs, it runs the wrong card in this "hot mode".

If I am correct in understanding how MiniZ works, on this rig my hot card is getting thermally limited by the drivers (and running unoptimally) while simultaniously a cool card is getting limited by MiniZ, running unnecessarily low wattage.

Hope this helps

Hi 1ncehost,
sorry for the late reply.
Thank you for letting us know.

miniZ requires 2.7Gb of memory to run at full speed, but on Windows the cards may run sub-optimally (specially the 3Gb cards, which are close to the limit value) because the OS drivers consume more memory. If this happens miniZ runs a different mode (usually mode 2 for GTX 1060 3GB). This problem should not happen in Linux.

Cheers

For your reference, I am running Ubuntu 18.04 systems with CUDA 10.

May not be a bad idea to post those samples publicly on this thread. It may garner a bit more attention.

Ok thank you for your suggestion!

Hi 1ncehost,

Sorry for the inconvenience... we try to make sure that there are no regressions on new releases, but there are so many cards/overclock setting combinations that this might happend.
Which cards do you have on your rigs and which OS are you using? The changes from i+ to i++ are minimal, it would be interesting to understand what caused the problem. Thanks for your feedback!

Cheers and happy mining!

I have GTX 1060s running at half power and stock clocks. H was the fastest build on them. "I" ran about 5% slower and i++ ran slower still. The time sample size for i and i++ could be small enough to not be meaningful (I didn't run I for long), but the sample size between H and I++ was meaningful. H was considerably faster than I++.

It looks pretty nice, but this sort of application doesnt look like it has to many innovative applications that would set it apart from others.

Thank you for your interest. Our portfolio tracker is the only one out there that doesn't require sign-up, which is a big deal for people who are concerned about anonymity. Smiley

Checking all of your sites, it seems like http://cardiac-med.com/ is the only site where you didn't leverage a pre-made theme & customised it.

Do you have any additional work where the design/CSS was entirely written by your staff?

Hello yes! I'll send you a PM. Thank you for your interest!

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Medium of Exchange vs Store of Value: Where is Bitcoin today? on: December 07, 2018, 12:08:29 AM
Bitcoin currently functions decently as a store of value and as a medium of exchange, but what makes it quite bad in general is the price volatility. Currently, I personally think bitcoin is for speculating and for store-of-value for those 3rd world countries with economic crises(e.g. Venezuela) whereas their local fiat's inflation rate is through the roof. I'd take an 80% drop rather than a 200,000% drop due to hyperinflation.

Anyway, it's going to take time for bitcoin to be stable and find it's price. Though I don't have any proof, I'm quite sure currently stable precious metals like gold didn't find it's sort of "stable price" in 10 years. I'm pretty sure it took a lot longer than that. As with the transaction speed and fees, it's fine right now, but I don't think "fine" is good enough. Let's not focus on the present though, as technology moves forward anyway.

I agree with you. Bitcoin is in the midst of its growth cycle. It took smart phones 10 years, the internet 20 years, and TV 50 years to reach saturation. When bitcoin reaches saturation, which will be in a number of years, the price will be more stable. For what its worth Gold still sees 100% price increases and 50% price drops and it has been in use for so many millennia. Bitcoin, having a set supply, is purely demand driven, and thus will always see more volitility than a fiat currency which has adjustable supply. However, Bitcoin's inflation will drop below USD's soon, so it will be a safer place to park money over the long term (in the same way as Gold).

At this very moment, in places with poor security and poor financial infrastructure, Bitcoin enables more efficient trade and wealth creation.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/how-venezuela-came-to-be-one-of-the-biggest-markets-for-crypto-in-the-world

It is not a technology that creates utopia like some people claim. However, it is a successful hedge on the existing financial system. It does work in the real world for all the purposes of currency. It is also a way for people who wish to be free from the economic violence that the G7 promises for non-cooperation (economic violence being a proxy for hunger and death).

Bitcoin is the only currency in the world which can be instantly sent from one side of the globe to the other and not be controlled by an outside power. It is also one of the few ways of storing wealth that a corrupt government can not easily steal.

Bitcoin is a great thing and will only grow, especially in the developing world where these problems are every day occurrences. The downsides of Bitcoin are far outweighed by the upsides. Some people have no choice but to use Bitcoin today, and that will only increase if the world spirals into a recession or depression.
