1  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gene editing is a god-making plan or a challenge to morality? on: December 03, 2018, 06:55:44 AM
The foundation of any theology exists because human beings have natural weaknesses. Once can create a "perfect human" through technology, he can be born with omnipotent, we can choose the best intellectual gene, the strongest physique gene when he is born, and then use AI technology to input all the knowledge we know into his brain. Therefore, it must be a natural atheist because it regards itself as a god.
Why should a really strong smart guy regard himself as a god? Being really strong and smart is not even close to being omnipotent. Again, you don't seem to hold a very high opinion of your god.

Also, if you believe that weakness is good, then genetic engineering can help with that, too. We can genetically engineer people with super-human weaknesses; super-cripples with every disability that exists in nature, with a few artificial disabilities thrown in for good measure! Will their suffering be good for their souls? Will they reach new levels of spiritual awareness that those of mere average weakness can only dream of? I think not.

I wonder if OP thinks that these gene edited babies are perfect, immortal creatures who will never catch a disease, therefore regarding to it as "humanity creating God?" ARE these gene edited babies immortal? Are they going to grow up with perfectly good manners and right conduct and be immune to all diseases? Will these gene edited babies lord over us? Maybe this is what he means.

A blockchain smart city is set to be built in Nevada.

“The planned city will encompass, among other projects, a highly-secured, high-tech park that joins blockchain technology with artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing and nanotechnology; residential units that will provide a new living environment to thousands; and various financial, business and retail concepts that will take advantage of emerging technologies.”

Could this be our future Utopia?
https://bitcoinist.com/millionaire-will-build-blockchain-smart-city-in-nevada/

It depends on what this "smart city" is going to be like. Would I still have my own privacy or can the government in this smart city see my every move, even in the comfort of my own home? If I can still have my privacy and they will let me live my life in peace without me having to worry about watching my back then I would gladly live in a smart city. If I have to give out my privacy for a digitized world, then I'm not sure I would still agree to living in a smart city. Would you?
3  Other / Off-topic / Re: Just one currency on: December 03, 2018, 06:41:24 AM
I only travel outside the country maybe 3 to 4 times a year but whenever I do I wish there is just one currency that I could use whether it is "real" money or virtual money. I just think it would be more efficient if there is one common currency since the world is getting smaller anyway and traveling the world has been in vogue for quite some time now. I can use my credit card, yes, but it often makes me wonder how much money would I be charged at the end of the billing period if say the currency exchange changes a lot from the time I swiped my credit card. And well, I just don't want the bank charges. Is there a possibility for a crypto to be able to provide this service?

Wouldn't it be great if there is one currency that we can use whenever we travel to another country? It would save us time and money due to foreign exchange rates. If we could use cryptocurrency for any purchase when we're travelling, then we wouldn't have to worry about computing how much a product would cost in our local currency.
4  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why most people would like to travel around the world? on: November 24, 2018, 02:54:17 PM
I do love to travel because it allows me to see different cultures, see different places and meet different people. Of course, it's not cheap, which is why I truly enjoy Google Earth VR. It lets me "visit" the places I will never be able to visit unless I have a lot of money. I still hope to visit them in person but, until then, I'll have to settle with VR tourism.

Absolutely! I'm still quite young, and there's so much more that I want to do in my life. If only there's a way to live forever I'd probably take it, but sadly there isn't a technology or a pill that can make this happen. Sad Is there?

I don't know about a pill, but I've heard some companies that are working on this. I'll have to Google it again but I think it's about editing our genes or something to do with our consciousness. I hope they'll succeed. I believe someday we might be able to live longer, don't you agree?
6  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you consider buying Facebook's new AR glasses? on: November 24, 2018, 02:33:01 PM
I think the question we should ask is why do we need it in the first place? If our smartphones can already do basically anything, why purchase an AR glass? The Google Glass never took off before, right? If Facebook is serious with this, then I hope they make sure it has features that only this AR glass has because Facebook users may not be on board with it, right?
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To new users, What are you struggling to learn? on: November 24, 2018, 02:16:12 PM
I'm literally new to this forum, as well as the world of cryptocurrency, and I find it hard to find someone who will really help me understand it better. I joined this forum because my friends kept on talking about it whenever we meet so after doing a few research, I joined this forum to hopefully learn about this bitcoin my friends are so obsessed about. Unfortunately, it's challenging to find where and how to start because there are so many threads here even if you try to search for something. It's also quite hard to learn about cryptocurrency for someone like me who's just beginning to learn about it because there are so much you can find here that I don't know where to start. Cryptocurrency and blockchain are complicated as it is. It doesn't help that you don't really know where and how to start.

This information here coincides with my current understandings of one of the biggest issues impeding new users. Would you care to further explain your situation? How recently did you become interested in learning about cryptocurrency?

When you were introduced, was this forum your primary means of learning bitcoin? What do you find so difficult in your current learning quest? Which parts and why?

What have you currently tried to fix this issue you're having? Has anything worked? What do you believe would be a help to solve this issue for you? Do you think other users suffer from this same issue?

That's a mouthful, but I will try to answer them as best I can. I first heard about bitcoin only a couple of weeks ago, when I went to my friend's housewarming party. He and some of our other friends were talking about it and I got curious so I listened to them and decided to join. To be completely honest I don't know anything about the forum yet, but I've learn now to not rely solely on the forum. I asked my friends and they helped me understand it better. I'm still new to it and learning and hope this forum will help. Do you have any tips that will help? I would really appreciate it.

Pandoras box has been opened regardless... AI, smart interconnected devices are nearly upon all of us.. in one form or another.. we sold our privacy down the drain years ago.. and can't turn back now.. so... bring it on... its going to happen with or without your consent anyway, in a neighbourhood near you eventually.

I sort of agree with this. When we purchased our smartphones and created social media profiles, we also agreed to lose a part of our privacy. It's already out there. They already have our information out there. This having a smart city will just make it official and known to us that our data is accessible for everyone. What do you think?

Merit is something given to members of bitcointalk for being helpful. Trust points? Pretty much like feedback points like you see on sites like eBay. It has nothing to do with bitcoin itself whatsoever. So yes, you can freely buy bitcoin and freely use the forum and converse with people without merit.
More information on merits: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

I always suggest reading this compilation of guides to total beginners. It should keep you busy for a while: https://coindesk.com/information

Thanks, I'll definitely check this out. Thanks also @mainconcept, this will definitely keep me busy for a long while.

...so my question is: are merits and trust important? what exactly are they and how do you gain it?

All you need to know is answered here: FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit

Does it have anything to do with bitcoin directly?

No, they are only relevant for bitcointalk, the forum, not the cryptocurrency bitcoin.

Hi. Sorry I wasn't being clear. I read it, but there are some parts of it that is unclear. Like those two, and a lot about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. I focused on it because this board says Meta and is about the forum.

Hi! So I'm new to this forum and new to the world of bitcoin and cryptocurrency. I guess I should post at Beginners board but this kinda have something to do with the forum so I hope I'm in the right place. The truth is I don't know anything much about bitcoin yet. I've heard about it from a few friends who kept talking about it whenever we meet and I felt out of place, so I checked it out, read some things, and decided to ultimately join. I know they are here, I'm just not sure yet what handle they use. Anyway, I posted in this board because I have some questions that hopefully someone can help me out. I've read the "Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ" but honestly I still have some questions. One thing I realized is that bitcoin and cryptocurrency are very difficult to understand, so my question is: are merits and trust important? what exactly are they and how do you gain it? Does it have anything to do with bitcoin directly?

I would also appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction about learning about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Preferably something that is easy to understand. I know I can easily search for it but the truth is it is overwhelming and I don't know where and how to start. Hopefully someone will help me. Thanks guys!
