Yes, you are trying to mine a scrypt coin.  Bitcoins are hash 256 or something like that. There is the first page on Slush's Pool about 2/3rds of the way down; and it has a working example of config file for mining bitcoins.  Or are you trying to mine a Scrypt coin?
