1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: June 13, 2020, 01:06:54 PM
Could you explain exactly what a market maker, angel investor, or liquidity provider would do what their roles would be. I've heard all of those terms of course, but I don't know if they are all the same or if they are all different and I can't really define each of them clearly. I know a liquidity provider is going to provide liquidity somehow, but what does that mean and what does it look like? Is it just a guy with deep pockets willing to place massive buy orders on the books? And how would these people make money as you've mentioned they could make good money providing this service?

@dzimbeck Sorry, I didn't mean to say that you personally were being deceptive and I didn't mean to communicate it that way. I was referring more to the community as a whole and perhaps deceptive was too strong of a word. I do still believe that is it somewhat disingenuous to try to get prospective new users/traders/investors based on a high total market cap that really does not exist. People might feel they got trapped in a small cap coin with limited liquidity when they thought they were in a medium to large cap coin based on the market cap (these people failed to do their own research). Or worse, someone that is actually doing the research before investing may discover that the true market cap is drastically lower than the one he heard about from someone promoting BAY and then choose not invest because BAY was being represented to him/her using a false metric. That would definitely turn me off as a new investor. Maybe some key metrics like current peg index and circulating supply on the Bitbay website could help to avoid some confusion

Seems a little deceptive to market the coin that way, lauding a grossly exaggerated market cap. Same with all the volume being wash trading, but i guess you gotta do what you gotta do...

I agree ^^. Multiplying the price of BAY-L by the total supply doesn't accurately reflect the market cap, not even close...

^^ I agree completely

There's no reason to panic about Latoken; Rome wasn't built in a day, or a week or a even a month. The devs probably are not able to give 100% of their attention to our project. And there the whole pandemic thing going on and we have no idea how that is affecting Latoken's operations or impacting their employees in whatever location they in. I don't believe we are anywhere close to the point where we should be concerned latoken is trying to steal.

Also i can see how it would be really confusing if something went wrong. From the wallet i have now way that I know of to tell what my frozen/liquid/reserve balances we on any given date and any given time. I tried to verify that latoken re-balanced my account correctly but ultimately it got too confusing because i could see a record of my deposits, trades and withdrawals, but it gets super complex trying to figure how many of my liquid coins were turned to reserve and when and if that was reflected in the reserve balance or whatever when my trade history is pages and pages long looking at two different coins. This is complex stuff. And then they also have to make sure the liquidity mixing doesn't screw anyone over. They have a lot on their plate. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and give them more time to get things figured out.

Getting an in house exchange would be definitely be the best move. It'll just take time, the team is small and resources are limited. As long as we keep chugging along, everything is going to work out. Blocknet would also be great and I think its just a matter of time with that.

This is an awesome project and most of us will be here for the long haul and someday, in the not too distant future, the weak hands who decided to bail on what they thought was a sinking ship will be banging their heads against the wall like Homer Simpson going DOH! DOH! DOH! while the rest of our fortunes rise with the massive tide that will lift this project up to higher and higher highs. BITBAY IS THE FUTURE OF MARKETS! Can I get a hell yeah?

@LuckyLeprachaun  go to the support channel in discord. The devs and community can probably help you there.

what if there was a decentralized coin where the circulating supply was controlled by the users/stakers through voting in an attempt to stabilize the price but still allow for growth...

if your wallet is syncing, it's working. It takes about 4 hours even with the bootstrap. The blocks are being pulled from the bootstrap file instead from peers and uses that info to build the new files that you see.  You'll be good when your wallet syncs. You might need to restart your wallet to see your frozen balances in the correct spot if you voluntarily froze any coins.

the price is protected in the sense that there are not very many liquid coins available to be dumped on the market then if 100% of the coins were liquid and available for dumping. The peg doesn't affect price directly of course but influences supply to align better with demand... the peg just went live recently and the reserve markets really haven't' taken off yet, part of the reason is that there is a one month timelock on reserve coins that are deposited to the exchange, so many peoples reserve coins are not yet available for trading.

On slack the team said they would make an official announcement early next week and they also mentioned a Monday launch would be best. Most people are speculating that February 24th will be the date so that there is a little time for a short campaign to raise awareness before trading goes live...
