Did some testing:
If I pull the wan port cable from the router and plug it back in ~ 5 minutes later it's fine.
If I pull the wan port cable from the router and plug it back in ~ 30 minutes later it stops updating and never comes back.
If I pull the power from the router and wait a minute and plug it back it in may or may not start updating.
If I pull the power from the router and wait a good long time (20+ minutes)and plug it back in it seems to start updating.
Did not do "extensive" testing just 2 or 3 tests for each due to the time involved in some of the testing.

Thank you for testing this. I have implemented the battery and there is only a few issues to solve and testing before the new device becomes available. Along with the battery comes a major firmware update that incorporates a Status bar that provides more information of the device connectivity. The connectivity is handled slightly differently with the new firmware but i'll make sure to test router outages in order to ensure that if something happens at least the user is informed. One thing to note is that due to the battery requirements unfortunately the main board and the case need to be upgraded. Maybe i'll come up with a retrofit package only available for legacy devices. |

Hi Dave, great timing. I have been in contact with the board manufacture and have received the new boards last week. Planning on doing the necessary software/hardware changes over this weekend and will post some updates then. How is your device going? |

any status updates, concerning the progress of the battery-powered model?  At the moment the device is still usb powered but some work has been done towards converting them into battery power. The most time consuming actions would be some potential changes to the case layout in order to refit the battery charging port and on/off switch and rewiring the charging circuit to the external usb port. Although time consuming these modifications can be made rather quickly if enough effort is put into it. I have some spare time next week and I will actively work on it and keep you updated. So, it's been 2 weeks or so. No more crashing / so the new firmware seems to have fixed it.
Still has the line. Anyone else seeing it?

Good to know that the first situation seems to be addressed. In regards to the line, can you please send the following payload to the device: [

And I came into the office this morning and it was on that screen again.
Seems to be random. But I really don't know if it went off @ 7:01 PM last night as I walked out or 8:45 AM this morning just before I walked in

If you have a chance please flash the firmware.bin file located at: https://github.com/AIFanatic/PaperLedger/files/3121298/firmware.zipThe update can be performed through the web portal->settings->update firmware This build includes the ticker updated time which should provide some more information on what could be happening. (thanks BitcoinMitchell for putting the effort into the project) Also, if possible, can you let me know the wifi signal strength of the device? (setup->status->network signal) I suspect it may be getting stuck while fetching the tickers. |

Having an odd issue every now and then. The ledger will go to the connecting to internet screen and stay there. None of the buttons work when this happens. A 1 second pull of the USB cable and plugging it back in and it's good to go.
Is anyone else seeing this?

Same here. Pretty minor issue, but annoying when it happens. Does the device go to the "Welcome to PaperLedger" screen or the "No Internet" screen? None of the 4 buttons work? At least the left button should work as its hardwired to the reset pin on the board. The ok button (3 button from left to right) its also mapped through software and should take you to the setup menu. If the ok button does not work it seems that the device is getting stuck. Is this consistent? Say after 2 weeks the issue happens? Thanks for reporting this issue. |

Where is price data pulled from? My PaperLedger shows the price of BTC as $4704 (it's been refreshing, and in that range for the last few minutes) even though the current price is $5,000+ on most major exchanges (Bitfinex, Bitstamp, Coinbase, etc). Think it's a bug, or am I just missing something? I also tried removing and re-adding the ticker.
Hi StackGambler, The prices are pulled from CoinGecko, I have noticed the same thing yesterday and CoinGecko was showing the same price ~$4700. Was weird that when the website first loaded it was showing ~$5000 then quickly changed to ~$4700, seems to be a bug on their end. |

Hey, I'm running into an issue when attempting to connect the device to WiFi (might be on my end). The device is on, the WiFi network shows on my computer, but when I try connecting to paperledger.local whilst connected to PaperLedger's network, it shows either a blank white screen, "domain not found" or "no internet". I got the same result on both my computer and my phone. Any ideas?
Hi StackGambler, Have you tried browsing through the device IP? It should be 192.168.1.1 ( http://192.168.1.1) Note that its not "https", some browsers redirect to https by default. If you are using a VPN or similar the IP's may clash and it will give similar symptoms to what you are describing. Seems unlikely since you mentioned that both the phone and pc give the same results but on the phone it may be a DNS issue. To further debug please do the following: 1 - Connect to the PaperLedger network 2 - Open a terminal/command prompt 3 - If on windows type ipconfig, if on mac/linux type ifconfig (if ifconfig does not work type ip addr) 4 - Look for the wireless interface and see if there is any ip's mentioned on the gateway entry 5 - Type ping ip (ping 192.168.1.1) 6 - If ping does not come with a time out message it means that your computer is able to "see" the device and you should be able to browse it using http://192.168.1.1 Thank you for the prompt and detailed reply! Browsing through the device's IP worked like a charm; I added a bitcoin ticker and the device looks great. Thanks for this it's perfect! Do shoot me a PM when you come out with a version that has a battery; I'll be the first to buy it. Glad you got it working And here is a little teaser:  My wallet is ready, waiting.... when your battery-powered model will be ready.  Will this model work with external power source (usb cable) as well? will I have to manually disconnect the battery (in order to plug it to a power source)? Or I will be able to plug it into power, even with the battery attached? (model will have something like an internal switch, when external power is discovered, to disable the battery source) Hey tweetious, Yes the battery version will work with both external power source and the battery at the same time, no need to disconnect it. When connected to an external power source it will charge the battery (very similar to charging a phone). There is a power switch that is not used at the moment that needs to be made functional since, with battery, the device will be on all the time, although this probably can be handled with software by putting the device into sleep mode. |

Can you add to the display last time updated? Mine was going thought the cycle showing yesterdays prices for some reason.
Gave it a reboot and all is good again.

Hi DaveF, Do you have an idea on where the last update time could be placed? It was in my plans to have the time and the data is already being stored but I could not find a place to put it that fits and is clearly visible. The device has certain API's that can be accessed through wifi and you can draw any text into the display using the following format: POST /display/draw HTTP/1.1

I am not offending, but I do not understand, why I should use this? I can just download an app on my phone to help me to monitor and alerts me.
Hi stanlee2018, Not offensive at all, all feedback is good feedback. This product is more like a gimmick/niche product for crypto enthusiast that are looking for something different/unique. Similar to wearing a watch or having a custom crypto painting for example. Also keep in mind that a full fledged wallet is planned to be incorporated when time allows, this would bring some more usable functionality to the product. |

You said you open sourced it but I can't find a hardware list? I have a 3D printer and would love to build this from scratch with my son! Awesome work!!

Hi gr3y, I'm still waiting on the batteries to arrive. I still have to publish the BOM list of the project but essentially the device consists of a TTGO ePaper ESP32 2.9' v2.2 and a micro usb breakout board. Will update the GitHub page maybe on the weekend with some assembly guide to. |

A: Don't believe you can, the LED seems to be hardwired to the power line and I've tried to turn all the available pins off and it does not change the state of the power LED. Q: can you add GBYTE to the choice of coins. A: Is GBYTE called OBYTE? ( https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/obyte/). If so, OBYTE is in the list of available coins, by searching for it in the coin input box it will show up. Got my PaperLedger today and have to say I'm impressed.
Firstly, the welcome message with my username is an awesome touch, thank you for that one guys!
Pros:
Easy to setup (Literally 60s).
Lightweight unit.
Connects to wi-fi without issues.
Dashboard is GREAT!
Screen quality is absolutely gorgeous. Very clear both when it's dark and if the sun is shining right on it, so that's a big pro.
Seemingly an endless supply of coins that can be added as tickers.
Cons:
Some issues with the guide, I had to disconnect/connect power once I had connected to my wi-fi although guide said it would reboot automatically. But that's just some print that can be edited (and it's a non-issue).
The buttons on the top are bit wonky, they work great but can be slow (having to wait 1-2s before being able to move the arrow again for example). This could probably be better optimized but again, not a big con.
Adding tickers was a bit confusing. When I wanted to add BTC it gave me like 100 hits with coins that I don't even think exist, it would be great if it could default to the big coins when you do search (and perhaps even if you don't search it could show you the top 10 or whatever). There was no guide on how you add tickers but through the dashboard it is very straightforward and no explanation was needed.
After having used plenty of tickers through the years I'll rate this 8/10 with room for improvement. The overall quality and how easy it is to setup and get it going really pushes that rating up there.
Considering you're tinkering with having it run on battery I'd say it'll be a homerun, especially with the pricetag you currently have on it.
Keep up the good work guys, I'll def. buy some of these and if you'll introduce skins as well that will only enhance it all and make me more prone to buying and give away to friends/family.

This looks like a really solid product. It's something I've been wanting for a long time. I'd definitely like to get one! I have two questions.
1. Do you ship to Singapore?
2. I don't have the money right now, but I will get it soon. When I get the money, I will forward it to the BTC address you provide to me via PM. Can I send you 59+12 USD based on the preev.com conversion rate at the time, or must I confirm with you before I send the BTC? (I will probably be able to purchase this within a week or two.)

this is so cool! do the cases have some kind of pattern on them? it sure looks like that from the pictures. when you do the black cases pls post a pic. a gold case would be cool for bitcoin lovers  Hi lucianus_luciferus, thanks for your feedback. The cases should be smooth, the pattern that is seen in the photos is due to them being 3D printed. Usually with most FDM 3D printers you can see the individual layers, thus why I mention that quality is the biggest issue with different colors. White filament reflects light really well so its almost imperceptible, with red it becomes more noticeable and black is the hardest (at least in my experience). The glossy finish is because the cases are being printed on glass, the sides of the case are opaque. Nice thinking on the gold, actually I have some gold filament available, will definitely give it a shoot and report back. |

Q: How many coins can u keep track of and does it scroll through yr coins automatically??? A: I have not tested this (will report back once tested), but I would say 20+. Yes, the device scrolls the coins automatically and the scroll frequency can be adjusted in the settings tab of the web portal (defaults to 10 seconds per coin). You can also re-arrange the order of the coins in the web portal by dragging them to a new place on the list. Regards, PaperLedger Pretty nice looking ticker. I'd probably be interested in one if you can monitor a bunch of coins. Will wait for your test report but I'd probably be interested in one for sure if it can handle a bunch of different coins with a scrolling ticket function. Watching, thanks.
