1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: November 11, 2020, 03:27:25 AM
Counterparty developers should start to do something innovative again, it seems they are sleeping in their laurels while in reality this project is just steps away from its obituary, with only one nearly impossible to sign up Japanese exchange with 50 ¢ volume a day. Pepecash was one of the main reasons XCP was sought after and the Counterparty exchange its still pretty decent but like XCP, the awesome Pepecash is also forgotten by the devs who bought their yachts and left its believers to scramble for a life vest.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: July 31, 2020, 04:10:07 PM
The good thing about Namecoin mining is that is piggybacking on Bitcoin’s miners, something that was established in the beginnings as merged mining. For this reason NMC has a lot of potential in the sense that its blockchain is secured by BTC and so the price of NMC may drop without its network being compromised by attacks. The bad thing is that NMC has been kept in a closet for some reason, its tremendous potential has been hindered by nearsightedness, the current developer claims that only the functionality is important to him yet for many years I have personally seen no functionality, even to try it in the nightly build  tor browser is almost impossible. Mayor exchanges have been delisting NMC do to low volume and lack of interest, I have been holding this coin for three years also thinking about its functionality but only have seen my investment been reduced 10 times, there seems to be no limit to how low the price of this coin can go, something is definitely not working. If there is something in all these years I have noticed is that when Bitcoin pumps, Namecoin bleeds, and when Bitcoin dumps, Namecoin bleeds even harder. If functionality was the only important thing, then why not just create a non-monetary domain blockchain, its like saying that you only care about the functionality of your bicycle but that the roads you ride in are of no importance because they are unpredictable and irrational. There is clearly a one sided thinking at the core of this project that is driving it to its demise.

Ok - but if you are interested in .bit specifically, then that is not about Namecoin Core itself (but applications built on top of it).  So wallet releases for Namecoin Core are not relevant here, neither are any plans for hard forks.

We already have good infrastructure for .bit lookups, thanks mainly to Jeremy's work on Electrum-NMC (for light lookups) and ncdns.  So the issue here is not technical development (or lack thereof), but convincing people that they should go ahead and try using .bit.  If you think you can help there, that would be awesome.

The point is that nobody uses Namecoin or the .bit technology and that the coin is dying on the exchanges for lack of liquidity, which also poses a vulnerability for the security of the network as a whole. It feels like a nerd project that looks awesome in the laboratory but has no real world applications, I actually came in contact with the chief developers at brave browser a year ago and suggested to implement the working of .bit address by default, the director said it was going to looked into it but did not hear from them again. It really seems like nobody cares about it.

Yes, I'm aware of your idea.  And in fact, I don't think anyone in Namecoin actually opposes it.  So feel free to go ahead and do it, or pay a developer to do it for you.  The main point that Jeremy raised on the Namecoin forum was that Namecoin as a project has no interest in implementing your idea (because we personally don't think it is very useful, and would rather spend our time on improving Namecoin itself).

Yes, thank you for your reply, I'm wiling to pay in NMC

So if you think the project is dead because no "interesting features" are added, do you also think Bitcoin Core is dead?

The NMC project has to compete for a share of the attention BTC gets, and because NMC is much less known, it has to try harder and provide much more novelty than just basic wallet maintenance. There has not been real .bit uses so far, for example the btc-e exchange which got their domain seized didn't use .bit for their new wex reincarnation and instead used .nz, I'm sure they knew about this technology because NMC was one of their few trading pairs.

Seeing how .bit domains has not got the attention or widespread practical use, and how exchanges have been dumping NMC continuously for lack of substantial volume, I feel is time to take action and reinterpret what is already there. There is great potential and a hard fork will provide a space to experiment it, as I previously commented, viagra was originally conceived as a heart pressure medicine originally called sildenafil, but patients noted an interesting side effect. And instead of fighting that, the creators used it to their advantage and now viagra is known for giving boners, and not for the original intended purpose.

I'm aware about your talent and the things you can do, and i think you are the right person to lead this new project. Creating a hardfork would not compete with NMC in any way, and would provide a unique solution and concept of recycling unclaimed balances, which no coin has done so far. The basic idea is that balances get recycled back every sidereal year,  at the heliacal rising of the star Sirius, which was associated with the annual flooding of the ancient river Nile. The time to renew these balances is 70 days before this date, corresponding with the 70 days Sirius is invisible to the naked eye, and the 70 days it took for mummification in ancient Egypt to prepare the dead for the after life.

Ah in all fairness you can only expect the developers to be abrasive or dismissive with posters advocating forking off in some other direction or proposing an alternative project ..if that's the post you are referring to.I wouldn't take offence after considering both sides of the discussion.
That is true in some respect, but like Buckminster Fuller said, instead of fighting forces, use them.
It was not a poster, the image is the logo but it came out really big.
Im really worried about this coin's future, I have invested almost all the money I had in it and its value has decreased ten fold, now it has near-zero liquidity, with 1 btc you could probably get the price down to a few cents. The dev seems to release a .0001 version wallet upgrade very 6 months, with no interesting features added, it feels like jacking off to me. That's why I'm proposing a fork with more room for improvement and foresight.
In another note, if the fork would duplicate your NMC balance, why would a dev be against it?, if it not because he already dumped all his coins.

How interesting and ironic that a coin that sells itself of being against speech censorship and centralized authority, the main developer "biolizard" censors the coin's forum and with very ungracious language just by speaking your mind and ideas, showing the weak moral foundations behind this coin and the ungratefulness towards the investors aka "bagholders".

The developers work for free.It would be a good idea if people could donate directly from their wallet through some agreed tax or interest on holdings. Why should anyone work for free?

Crowdfunding the hard fork is a good idea, but keep in mind that the monetary reward for developers would be given as an equal amount of their NMC balance in OSIRIS. However you did bring an interesting point regarding the wallet, because since both NMC and BTC use SHA-256, it would be technically possible for the OSIRIS wallet to have an order book that atomic swaps between BTC and NMC.

You do know that when Osiris was cut into 14 pieces - with Isis and her sister searching and reclaiming the parts - that only 13 were recovered, right?
Osiris never got his dick back. I don't know about anyone else but I am not interested in any project where there is a chance I can have my manhood eaten by an oxyrhynchus fish.

Although there are some who are willing to take such risks... https://diegorod.github.io/WillMcAfeeEatHisOwnDick/

Yes, but her sister Isis represented by the star Sirius gave him an erect phallus made of solid gold and became pregnant by it, hence the birth of Horus, i.e. The Sun.
I took a photo of that moment in the Osireion, Isis having transformed into a falcon
No need to join if your manhood is at stake

Today is the heliacal rising of the star Sirius, and is associated with Osiris, the God of resurrection in ancient Egyptian thought, and this is the perfect day to start a novel proposal hack for a Namecoin hard fork named OSIRIS based on the principle of recycling un-renewed coins. The concept of expiration is already present in NMC but instead of wallets that expire, are domain names. The basic idea of OSIRIS is that un-renewed or forever lost coins due to lost private keys are recycled back into the ecosystem, rewarding them to miners at their expiration date. This idea has matured over many years and there is a post in the project direction NMC forum describing this as well. Does anyone feel betrayed by the lack of general interest and fresh ideas around this coin and is concerned that their investment will disappear soon as it seems to sink ever more into the mud as time passes? Does any one want to join forces and fabricate a hardfork that would make their NMC investment float and survive in the challenging waves of the present sea of crypto novelty?

The best thing I could find was an academic paper called "Generalized Scheme For Fractal Based Digital Signature (GFDS)" which proposes a digital signature scheme based on Mandelbrot and Julia fractal

Fascinating stuff!! here are some excerpts:

" It is possible to have digital signature scheme
based on fractal due to the strong connection between
the Mandelbrot and Julia fractal sets. The link between the
two fractal sets is used for the conversion of the private
key to a public key"

"This paper has shown the possibility of using Fractal sets
(Mandelbrot and Julia function sets) in Cryptographic
keys exchange protocol. The Fractal based key
exchange protocol is made possible because of the
intrinsic connection between the Mandelbrot and Julia
Fractal sets

12  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: M set cryptography use for cryptocurrency on: March 12, 2019, 01:36:39 AM
You are right, but it seems the M set alone can be used as both hashing and ECC at once.

You are absolutely right, asymmetric cryptography and not elliptic curve but perhaps more parabolic, I think this difficulty mechanism should be more efficient as its more synchronized with real world values.
how do you think the first line should be said best?

14  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / M set cryptography use for cryptocurrency on: March 01, 2019, 10:07:36 AM
As you know, SHA-256 is the "padlock" mechanism inside cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, and while it does the job for now, its based on a complexity generating engine that has some faults, namely different inputs giving the same outputs technically called collisions. The Secure Hashing Algorithm has also a recorded history of obsolescence over time and was invented by a government agency. However the iteration of the function f(z)=z^2+c  also known as the Mandelbrot set can naturally create a similar cryptographic mechanism.

The M set has a natural cryptography in the sense that all images have one unique Julia  and numerical coordinates as a counterpart. A unique output corresponds to a unique input, there is no way of producing exact coordinates from an M set or Julia plot, so unless you know those coordinates they cant otherwise be known as being associated with the image. With some programming effort they can behave like public and private keys. An M set based cryptocurrency can be mined by digitally recording the fractal, so if it gets recorded it can also record transactions.

Suppose you have some coordinates of a deep zoom, you then have the ability to create the exact image counterpart from the numbers but not the numbers from the image. However they will get ultimately recorded on the M set blockchain at some point in the future, wallets therefore naturally expire after a number of years, which in turn makes for an unexpected solution. By wallets  having an expiration time, private keys can be rediscovered by mining the fractal, funds will be eventually fed back into the crypto ecosystem.

The M set generates inexhaustible amounts of data, yet there exists a scarcity element as well, albeit only a man-made one, this being how much data can be recorded. This limit ultimately corresponds to Moore's law curve. This natural yet artificial scarcity element makes the M set a candidate for behaving like a cryptocurrency. The coin supply is ultimately set by how big our digital baskets be to receive this exotic fruit from this digital cornucopia. As the shores of the M set ocean recede, baskets will start to get small in the face of perpetual novel data generosity.

Computers used for mining could be dreaming about infinity while delivering the same blockchain economic technology. This incredibly enormous computing power can be employed to navigate in a sea of infinite novelty instead. After all, this M set phenomena was only discovered after computers came into existence, so its their dream time in more than one way. Perhaps we are not yet aware of the wider potential of one of the most enigmatic of all guests that has recently arrived to the digital party. Recording the M set may be a future seven wonders of the digital world as well.

Even Arthur C. Clark predicted in his  film "Fractals the colors of infinity" that “Fractal geometry, has enormous commercial value”. https://vimeo.com/15506693#t=1883s

What do you think?
