Hi All,

Some notes that might help others with NanoFury/Yellowjacket oddities when run with other devices.

I reinstalled WinXP today on my old laptop with a new harddisk to a) give me more room for BitcoinQT, and b) seemed like a good time anyway, it also rules out any other problems behind my problem with starting order of USB devices.

I've been having a problem with BFGMiner v3.10.x and now v4.0.0, If I simply plug all my USB devices in, and ensure that WinXP picks them all up in Device Manager, I end up with a mess, the BEE's (and sometimes the BIF) are never found by BFGMiner when its started with the NFY's already plugged in, and the NFY's are found very errratically.
I had BEE's, BPM's, NFY all plugged into one USB2 hub (no plugs, direct soldered leads to an excellent switchmode supply), and a BIF which I have plugged into a USB3 hub.

Turns out the NFY's don't like starting up at the same time as Block Eruptors (BEE's) and BPM's (that's right, not the BIF), so I've put BEE's, BPM's, and BIF on the USB3 hub, and put all my NFY's on the USB2 hub. For NFY's think NanoFury's/Yellowjackets.

Solution that works all the time.

Start BFGMiner with only the USB3 hub and all BEE's, BPM's and BIF are found and started, then I plug in the USB2 hub, 1 or 2 NFY's are automatically found, within a few minutes the rest of the NFY's are then found. (I normally do a "M + auto" in BFGMiner as I'm impatient)

I have tried different hubs, with the same results, I haven't looked further as I don't have any debug/trace tools for Windows, this is the only thing with windows on it in this house as we aren't windows people but at least it give the old laptop a reason for being.

Cheers

Hi freedombit

Also, Internet via electricity conduits. I recall seeing something like this. I think it was called freedombox, and being sold in the middle east to provide homes with access to the Internet via the electricity grid. Similar thinking to crypto currency - no central authority, so it couldn't be easily regulated.

Problem with internet (any network) via the electricity grid is the attenuation with every spike arrestor, connection, transformer, meter box etc, even if you bypass transformers and other barriers your talking about a lot of money/time and effort when it's cheaper just to run a new cable that's meant for data networks, or use whats already there for coms, like telephone cable.

no central authority, so it couldn't be easily regulated.

you also require some form of agreement between hosts so they can talk to each other, routing tables, owner information, DNS etc.
No reason it cant be 'self regulated' but thats another topic Smiley

This affected me during initial sync only. Do you experience it after your initial sync?

Not unusual for the QT client to upload up to 700MB of data a day for me, I would expect this to be dependent on your ISP, and the number of other clients on that network.

6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Yellow Jackets and great customer service from bitgtr on: April 18, 2014, 06:17:34 PM
Hi All,

Been a lurker for a while.

Just like to publicly thank Jonathan from bitgtr.com for his great customer service and very speedy replacement of a faulty Yellowjacket.

I originally bought two Yellowjackets, both were a bit odd but one in particular was throwing up messages like "8 of the last 22 results were bad, reinitialising", I tried all sorts of things, including using it as the only asic on a powered USB3 hub connected to a USB2 port. When I finally contacted bitgtr about my problem, Jonathan, after asking a few questions and a reply from myself, promptly send me a replacement Yellowjacket, I felt I should at least buy another two off him at the time just on the strength of his customer service, including pretesting all units before sending them. Received by Australia Post courier bag, plugged them in, and sweet as, all worked perfectly, no errors at all, very happy and I can certainly recommend the Yellowjackets.

I was a bit iffy about the Yellowjackets to start with but looking at the price thought I'd buy a couple anyway, I'm glad I did now, great little units, and they overclock nicely when the provided metal slab is removed, and the units are attached to a bigger heatsink Smiley

Note, I have no other relationship to bitgtr, just a happy customer who has been burnt in the past by miner purchases and thought I'd post a very positive experience I've had with this purchase.

Cheers
