1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing the FutureBit Apollo BTC - A Full Node/Mining Platform for the Home! on: May 06, 2021, 03:30:12 PM
Hi jstefanop,

Thanks for the hard work and the updates. I just looked back at my conformation email (#3506) and realized I ordered the full package, but without the power supply. Is there any way to add one now or is it to late? I have several I could use, but thought I would ask in the event others might be wondering the same thing.

Just reply to your order email and well update it.

Reply sent, Thank you!

That is unfortunate, however in some cases multi layer boards can be repaired, most often not, but in rare cases yes. That said generally it is not cost effective to attempt and is tedious with limited success. I spent years helping my father repair double and single sided boards, but nothing like the new multi layer boards. I do have a few I am currently tinkering with now from Z9 and Z9mini's with the same apparent failure. I do not have a Z11 board yet, so if you would be willing to part with it for research purposes let me know. My Father was the brains as far as circuits and how they worked I was just the eyes and the hands, but you pick up somethings if your around it enough.

I have one that I pulled from a B3 worked fine when I received it. I only needed the case from the B3 as it is the same width and rail spacing as the Z9 and z9 mini it is just longer. I got a really good deal on 3 used Z9 boards and modified the height to fit, re flashed V9 controller I had laying around and.... ADHD kicking in...anyway I have the working controller and the B3 boards as well if you need them. Send me a PM or let me know where you need it sent.

Jason,

I finally had a chance to set up the 2.3 firmware on a mix (11 total) of my units pointed at Luxor. While I did not have time last night to fine tune anything; I can say after taking a quick look this morning that they are running stable with my last known good freq as the global setting starting point. I wanted to really test the benefits of your firmware, so before installing I mixed the boards on all the units to have a sampling from different batches running together in the same units. While it is not possible to cover all the permutations possible with what I have available it should serve well in testing per board tuning with batch 1, 2, 3 and 4 represented for the mini and I believe batch 1 and 2 for the Z9. I do not currently have a Z11 to test, but have spoken to another forum member who is running your Z11 firmware and is very pleased with it...oh and I knew you were right, but tried it anyway and the Z11 firmware will not initialize on the mini or the Z9..call me hard headed Cheesy. Also there were no residual effects after flashing back.

I will post some results if you would like me to when complete with the test. It may take some time as I will be running the previously mentioned test and then returning the units to matching boards and running them again. Please let me know if you would like me to start a new thread with all of this to keep from cluttering your thread or if you would like this information posted here as it is gathered. I enjoy tinkering with older hardware and the information could prove useful to others who's budget might not allow for the purchase of newer hardware. I have run firmware from others as well in hopes to deliver an unbiased opion in the results...more to follow. Cool.

Regards,
Keith

They all appear to be micro-crystalline in structure for the most part. The black one looks to be water worn Obsidian or volcanic glass. The lower right and upper left stones in the left photo looks like they could be Dolomite or Tourmaline they are both micro-crystalline forms of chert or flint and should show what look like layers similar to a jawbreaker candy if you break it. It is hard to tell from the photo, but the lower left stone appears to be similar or possibly an untarnished chalcopyrite based on the color. The first three I described were used by ancient peoples for making arrowheads, spear tips, knives and scrapers and are still worked by hobbyist in the same fashion as they were throughout history. The last is usually yellow in color and is a sulfide of copper and iron and a main ore of copper. If you had higher resolution photos from different angles and a general description of the location where they were found, I could possibly be more precise in the identification as it helps to narrow the Geology of the area. Hope this helps Grin

Phil,

I was thinking about picking up a 606 and a batch 2 Apollo to run the same way that you are running them. Is there a pool like CK's for Litecoin?

On the GPU side I shut down the single 7 card EVGA 1060 6G rig I built back in April 2018 when I moved from working in TX to NC. I gave 2 cards each to both of my son's for gaming and still have 3, but never run them anymore.

I did set up again in NC with 10 L3+( I just sold all these a week to soon.. Angry ) and some Z9 mini's and a Z9, but at the moment I am switching locations with work again so will be shutting those down in a few more weeks.

What would You do in this situation:

(1) Sell everything before moving and set up with new gear when settled?

(2) Keep it and set it back up when settled?

(3) Sell and reinvest in favorite coin?

and still holding a little of BTC, LTC, XMR, DGB, DOGE, and Zcash.

Jason,

Have not had a chance to check yet, but does the new version for the mini have support for the fourth board and will it support voltage control Wink (Please disregard the PM I sent I think I figured that out) If not I can do the mod and check the z11 firmware on the mini. The z9 big will not arrive until tomorrow for me to see what needs to be done on it if anything.

Thanks,
Keith

chipless,

I'm not sure if anyone here has seen or used these 2500 watt power supplies other than me, but I have been running them for more than a year and they are rock solid. I would not recommend pushing any power supply at 100%, but I did run three l3+ off of 1 unit for for over a month as a test and had no problems at 240v. I have not tried running anything with them at 120v as my electrical is set up for 240v.

Hope this helps someone,
Keith

*edit- You will need a heavier power cord to run it than what comes with it from my experience.

Sent...

After doing some more reading I saw that most of what I said in that last post had already been covered, sorry for cluttering up the thread.

I still have had no luck with the 4th board on the mini..I will keep tinkering with it as time allows..moving on.

Thank you for your efforts and keep it up,

Keith

I was going to try your firmware last night, but it was later than I thought when I sent the PM. I will try it tonight if I can make time. I am not sure what happened, but right after I read your reply my ISP dropped out, had to reply from my phone. As with Jason I will also send you a donation today because it has been fun and informative following the threads. I am still learning and that is the important part.

Thanks and keep it up,
Keith

RE: 4th hash board

I tried the 2.1d dev fee version for the mini last night and it works great, but the 4th board did not appear to be found. I tried viewing the stats with SSH and watched for a bit poolside with no luck. Looking at the kernel log it never picked up the 4th board. is it possible I did something wrong with the down load or the flash. It could have been something on my end so I decided to try the 2.2 Z9 big on the mini and it amazed pushing 27-28 KS/s on (4) batch 4 mini boards so I did not think it was a local issue while I was running the mini firmware (probably just a user issue..) they settled at around 22-24 KS/s after about 30 minutes, the temps did not show but it did work and ran both fans. For anyone else that tries this and for your information Jason the dev fee seemed to run every other 10 min when you try to run the z9 big on a mini...not 100% sure about that as I know it was not intended to be run on a mini, but it did zero out and the log showed a pool switch. I was running it on prohashing..Just thought I would share. Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong with the mini version or does it need to be the paid version to pick up the fourth board. Will donate a little today (do you have new donation address or should I just use the one on here?) because its been fun and informative following the threads. I love to learn..hard way or easy way..anyway is still learning. Hope to pick up a Z11 soon and try that out...wife says if I get rid of 9 more L3+ I can have one..oh boy!

Thanks and keep up the good work,
Keith

* edit, I have looked and cannot find a donation address for you Jason, Have I over looked it somewhere?

Chipless,

Thanks for the reply, I will try some of the thoughts shared from both threads as soon as I get a chance and see what I can cobble together.

My mind wanders, but eventually it comes back...

Jason,

The memory question was just something that came to mind I thought I would share, I am not as well versed as others, but I am willing to learn...I thought as much about the 4th board from my reading, but did not want to try it without asking. It would be nice to have the gui show the 4th board stats if it is found. Will give it a try sometime this week...damm a butterfly...lol

Thanks for the quick reply,

Keith

Jason,

I posted these same questions in one of chip's threads and thought I might post it here as well. I am running several z9 mini's and saw a chip tear down post that shows the memory is built into the chip.. (My Dad said the only dumb question was the one not asked..so..here it goes.) Does the freq and voltage change you guys are working on also effect the memory that is built in to the asic? or is this something that is a given and I am just not catching it?

...on another note is there a way to unlock the controller for the 4th hash board, and a gui update to show the 4th board?( I saw another post somewhere else that mentions you and a certain unlocked firmware that may accomplish this) I had several v9's that I flashed, made some mod's to the cases and am running the 2 of the mini boards in each case, but would like to combine them in a custom case with more than 3 boards to a controller.

If I have posted anything that has been answered before I apologize and I did some searching before asking, but I have ADHD and sometimes its best to just get it out..look a squirrel...

Thanks for all the hard work,

Chip,

I have been following both yours and Jason's threads and I am certain he will read it here as well. I am running several z9 mini's and saw a chip tear down post that shows the memory is built into the chip.. (My Dad said the only dumb question was the one not asked..so..here it goes.) Does the freq change you guys are working on also effect the memory that is built in to the asic? or is this something that is a given and I am just not catching it? ...on another note is there a way to unlock the controller for the 4th hash board, and a gui update to show the 4th board? I had several v9's that I flashed, made some mod's to the cases and am running the mini boards, but would like to combine them in a custom case with more than 3 boards to a controller.

If I overlooked something and this has been covered I am sorry, Just thought this would not be a bad place for my first post.

Thank you both for the hard work.
