1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Mining; Hosting Thread on: December 22, 2022, 03:08:55 AM
not sure where to post this. but all three of my miners crashed and won't restart.

anyone have this issue?

I have them in different spots.  about 3 miles apart so I do not think it is an internet issue.

Found issue

this pool was dead

us-grin.2miners.com:3030

moved to this pool below:

us2.grin.herominers.com:1125

all is well

I also updated from 2.49 firmware to 2.52 version

No issues for me on 2miners... been mining with them since I received the units from the group buy.

Any idea what the new firmware adds / fixed? I was thinking about upgrading a couple of weeks ago, but decided against it as miners have been pretty good so far.

I've used this https://www.amazon.com/Conductive-Silicone-Adhesive-Compound-Heatsink/dp/B07TSH6MNT/ref=psdc_3012290011_t1_B07HCDRL7W with good results on L3+ heatsinks that have fallen off. It worked well, and the heat sinks can be easily removed if you need to reposition.

Good Luck!

philipma1957,

Any idea on the efficiency of the power supplies?  I'm kind of wondering if we cant' drive these using a more efficient PC or server PSU with a breakout board.

Here's a fun graph, my power consumption on 3 units over the last 3 days.

This kind of makes me wonder if these can't run using 70-80 watts with the right PSU and winter temperatures.

I also got some of these in marcotheminer's group buy.

Yeah I have been looking at a dozen oem websites that sell 12volt 15 amp bricks.

That is the brick size we get.

After careful study the worst brick I found had 78% efficiency and the best brick I found has 88%

So if you put in a 95% titanium  vs  78% the 111 watts would go to maybe 91 watts best case

but if it is the 88% then the 111 goes to 102 watts

If I can determine that these are 78% bricks I will post back with results using a titanium psu.

I think this adapter tip is 5.5 by 2.5 size

I will buy it I have an old grid seed cable

I will connect it to this tip and use a few psu's

out of stock

https://www.amazon.com/5pcs-Express-5-5X2-5mm-Plugs-Gridseed/dp/B07DSW46N1?th=1

in stock

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0915MTZSG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

do not rush to buy any of the above. I will test and present results by Sat the 24th
https://www.amazon.com/Fanless-Modular-Bearing-Warranty-SF-1300F14MG/dp/B00SYR6YBA
very fast test today
https://www.amazon.com/Fanless-Modular-Bearing-Warranty-SF-1300F14MG/dp/B00SYR6YBA

this is much like a 1300 watt EVGA gold.

i hooked up a 5.5 by 2.5
dc adapter
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0915MTZSG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I had an old interface breakout board that let me do this a via screws

the psu was running some gpu's  and pulled 490 watts no ipollo

it now pulls 576-592

a range of 86-102 watts

the other one on a brick does 92-109

so it looks like a 88-91 psu gold is a lot better than the brick the brick looks to be around 80 or a bronze

so if you understand how to wire and choose a plat psu you should save 10 watts a unit.

The dc adapter tip is good but needs better wires than what comes with it

Also note this gear does have a power range of 14-17 watts as it pulses the draw.

I suspect if you get a psu like this
https://www.newegg.com/evga-220-t2-0850-x1-850w/p/N82E16817438064?

and wire correctly you could run 4 ipollo at 360 watts vs 420 watts brick

Thanks for the write-up, I might try this. The adapter you bought uses screw terminals, any concerns using these long term? I was originally thinking of soldering wire to a connector.

Hi Everyone,

My 3 units arrived yesterday (self hosted in my garage!) and have been up and running for about 24 hours. Initial impressions...

Each unit uses about 100W measured from the wall, this is better than the 120W I was expecting.

Each is hashing at 1.3gps maybe a little more. Pool side it's at least 1.3 gps average I think maybe closer to 1.35-1.4 gps again only 24hours.

They are a little louder than I was expecting. The fan is running at around 5000rpm. There are some fan settings that I can play with, I just haven't' had time to look into it.
In contrast the goldshell box unit I have is pretty quiet with the fan running at 2000ish Rpm (consumes 200 watts).

One of the 3 units runs about 5-7C hotter than the others with a few more reject shares, but nothing more than 0.5% after a full day.

Interestingly ipollo built the software on top of OpenWrt, there are many options from this firmware that are exposed and it looks like they can be modified if you are brave.

I'm generally happy with these units. Many thanks to @marcotheminer! Very smooth transaction and very well handled group buy. I may be back for more if a second buy planned.

Cheers,

momanz

I have a pool communication issue with the two I am running.

I sent you a screen shot via pm maybe I can fix the issue by looking at your setup.

yours are reporting correctly at the pool.

I get way two many stales and far too little hash

my 2miner.com settings

my stales are huge  see below

changed a router setting and it seems improved

take a look at link

https://grin.2miners.com/account/grin19wna4zgtlqc22uwc4huthks4v5s0spff0c8qlx30zra3zfdjzvyqs680v5

these seem okay to get more

Just saw your PM. My settings are below.

Only difference I see is in the NTP server, but looks like you've solved it :-).

Cheers,

Hello,

I'm located in the USA. I'm also interested in 3 units if they can be shipped to me and the total can be kept below $800 to avoid tariffs. Otherwise I can take 2 at the $269 price.

Please let me know what's possible. I'll confirm my interest in a follow-up post once I know better the details.

Thanks,

Hi,

I've just noticed Teamblack was integrated into HiveOS with version 1.16

I have only AMD cards RX 6600xt, RX 580, RX 6700xt and RX 5700

All my cards are recognized except the RX 580 models (I have 3 of them).
Did anyone have the same effect on HiveOs ?

To bypass that for now, I've configured Teamredmine on RX 580 series and Teamblack on all other models.

Regards

I have the same problem. I have 2x RX580 1x RX570 1x RX5600XT 2x RX5700 1x 6700XT. The NAVI cards are recognized and run well, but the Polaris cards are not recognized. Also I have no stats showing.

Running HiveOS and tried TBM versions 1.16 and 1.18. same behavior on both. I ran the miner directly from the shell. Same behavior. I've noticed that there is a "Cannot open shared object file" message the occurs occasionally. Maybe this is related?

Are there any additional steps I can take to help debug?

Just tried this on my AMD rig (2x rx580, 1x rx570, 1x5600xt, 2x 5700xt and 1x 6700xt) and am getting an additional 7mh with no new tuning (over TRM) as reported by the miner. will let it run for a while and see where I land pool side.

Can confirm I am only getting stats for the 1st card in the rig. Also an error "cannot open nvidia-smi for gpu utilization" appears just before each printing of the stats display.

please include memory junction temperature reporting if possible. My 5700s run hot and I like to control fans or throttle based on that temperature.

Nice Job.

Not really a sharer, but why not.

Removed the fans from a S9 and tested it with an inline duct fan, with reduced speed.
It is very very tolerable, i could say silent but not bedroom silent, definitely kitchen/TV room plausible!

Miner is underclocked at 8.6V/550mhz/1000W

http://prntscr.com/1s6mphw

Thanks for sharing. I was just looking at doing something like this with my L3+ that is sitting in my garage. Winter is coming and I want every bit of the heat its generating in my house.

What are the specs on your duct fan and what speed are you running it at?

Thanks!!
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: July 05, 2021, 02:09:59 AM
a lot depends on rig size.

I have spots that must be a two card normal pc.

so the 650 are fine.

hey anyone mining xmr on viabtc.

or on nice hash.

my few xmr rig keep crashing.

what is a stable pool?

or a stable miner.

I'm trying out an algo switching pool pool-pay.com using xmrig. It seems to be making me a little more than mining straight xmr and so far seems stable.

Payments are in native coins mined or BTC (you decide) and then pool can pay out in LTC, BTC or USD (if you're outside the US).  My Ryzens (1700,2700, 3700x) make me between $1-$2 per day. Only the 3700x is running consistently (by choice, opportunistic mining on my other cpus) so it might be a bit more. Interested in hearing opinions about this pool if you have any to offer.

I'm also looking to buy an L3+. I've been exchanging messages with sellers on Alibaba, and while the price is better than Ebay, I have no idea on the quality of machine I'll be getting or if it will show up at all. Any advice on finding one or dealing with Alibaba sellers? Pricing seems to vary daily and single unit purchases don't command much bargaining power.

It's really bad, I'm here in ASIA, and I get screwed.

Here's the scam, u order, must pre-pay, then they tell u they're out, or don't have, then you have to cancel order, then alibaba takes 10% to keep for order processing. That is just if your lucky.

Here's the deal, even if they do ship something, it might be just a box of parts, or not even as advertised, so then you return right? Well not so easy, you must wait for alibaba to judge the case, they always rule in favor of seller, as almost all companys on alibaba are owned by alibaba.

I could go on, hope you get the idea.

I might also add the return process is terrible, you must pay, it might be as much as $200 USD to return a box say 20LBS to China, and then they can just deny tracking, they can also send you a return address that is a black-hole, alibaba  just doesn't care, they got their cut, they're done, when you made the order, they make the same whether the order is processed, or not. Now here is even worse baba-ant, now own most the western credit card companys, so its not even possible to dispute a chargeback, as they'll rule in baba favor

Amazon is still good, baba is not

...

Now how to do this right.

1.) Talk directly to seller, ask do you have this product yes or no? Ask for photos and serial numbers of the machine
2.) verify
3.) Make it clear you will deposit, but not pay balance until shipped, before final payment demand more photo's, make sure they match earlier serials
4.) Order from baba, but make it clear to everybody on the order your terms, the serial number, and the means of shipping

There are many scams like shipping, if u didn't pay to the door, then they route your shipment through their consigner in the USA who might charge $500 for a $100 thingy, nothing you can do, because u agreed to pay import charges. Most of the chains inbound&outbound are all owned by these companys, so they can scam you a 1,000 different ways.

Here's the bad news, most HDD's and GPUS and miners are now gone, over the years I too have tried to order s19's and L's many times, and simply every time the order got cancelled; Most of this stuff doesn't exist, they're just scamming suckers, if they know you know the game early on, they'll usually just ignore,

Worst of all is once you click, order u must pay ALIBABA their full-cut on the deal whether the order takes place, or returned or not, the system is a 100% scam, that's why u see all the non-existant product for sale, because it doesn't exist, and they get paid when you order.

How to win? Not sure, you can't complain to credit card company, because they have 100 different ways to cheat, here's an example I cancelled an order and stopped visa payment, they reapplied the charge, but ran it  through a restaurant in NY, when I called the credit-card company they said "U can't get your money back on eating food", I said this was not that order, that this was a re-application of the same refund same amount earlier, to which the credit card company said "It says right here xyz restuarant" your card. The way they pull this is most of this stuff has 60-90 day limit, and then you can't process the fund return.

Last time I ordered a GPU I clicked once, they processed two order 5 minutes apart. I asked to cancel one, they said "U must get the seller to accept the cancel", I said I just clicked once, they said "No it says right here you order 5 minutes apart". So I ended up getting stuck with two orders, that ended up getting cancelled cuz the seller finally admitted he didn't have the product, and sure enough ali got to keep their cut, and the credit card company said "U agreed to their terms on the order".

Thanks for the detailed reply and your sharing of your experiences. The photos of serial numbers is a good suggestion, but probably more important is figuring out how to get them to accept payment on verification of goods. Sounds like if I go forward I need to find someone who will accept escrow.

The power draw is the kill off for me, 800w to get 7$ per day? No that's paying too much for electricity when 230watt GPU can get you exact or but more $$ for lower power draw, anyways it's a good deal if you have free electricity or cheaper electricity

Mining started off as a hobby for me back in 2018 and I've slowly accumulated graphics cards. I'm up to 9 now and wish I was more aggressive before prices went crazy. I agree, the asic power draw does hold me back a bit, that's why the L3 is more attractive to me than some of the other options. At 800W It will run on a standard US household electrical circuit before firmware mods and I've been thinking about playing around with some of the mods I've seen to reduce noise. In over half the year it might double as a nice space heater if I can cut back on the noise, if not, it lives a the garage. I've considered the S9s as well and they might work for me, but consume more power coming a bit too close to capacity for a standard circuit. They also are barely profitable at the moment so not as attractive.
