1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ARK - Blockchains Interoperability with SmartBridge 🔹 ARK on BiTTREX 🔹 on: August 11, 2017, 12:26:28 AM
Does the idea of Ark have much competition? there are also website's set up for swapping altcoins

Their website has a road map for Ark. You can compare it to other coins who may offer some of the same services. They do have a large team of 20 plus people involved in different aspects of development. So it appears that they should be able to move forward on each point of the road map.

Picked up some Ark this morning on Bittrex. I visited the Ark website to download the wallet for Linux and was pleasantly surprised to find the download in a .deb file. Thanks for making the install process easy. The wallet installed without a hitch. Many coins could learn a lesson from Ark in making it easy to adopt.

Thanks for making it easy!

thanks for letting us know Cheesy most people are shocked when they see our wallet and how stylish it keeps getting.

People have said it's one of the best looking wallets out there.

Since we are making Click and deploy interoperable blockchains, all the sub components need to work easily and seamlessly for the new blockchains which will also need wallets and explorers so we're glad this is coming along greatly!

You're welcome. I am definitely impressed with it. I was also checking out the video on the website, it explains Ark pretty simply.  I really wish I had found Ark sooner, but better late than never.

It explains the whole NXT, Ardor and IGNIS plan.

It can be found here https://www.jelurida.com/sites/default/files/JeluridaWhitepaper.pdf

It answers a lot of question regarding the upcoming ICO for IGNIS as well.

When will NXT be left without the support of the team?

The team said they will support it after 2018 if there is demand. The demand is unknown until we're well into 2018.

The white paper that was just released says that if they raise between 1-2 million Euros they will support the NXT blockchain for at least a year for "security or critical bug fixes only".
Team:

3 senior developers
1 sysadmin/quality assurance/support
1 consultant/sales engineer
1 legal advisor

If they raise between 2-5 million euros, they will support the NXT blockchain for 3 years.
Team:

3 server-side developers
2 sales engineers/consultants
2 sysadmins/quality assurance /support
1 developer
1 UI and mobile expert
1 cryptographer
1 legal advisor
1 business development specialist
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Pump to the moon! /* [Mega-Pump on 15th August] on: July 14, 2017, 09:45:00 AM
In the stock market, pump and dumps are illegal and result in fines and prison. Its threads like this that will bring regulation into the cryptocurrency market.  It shouldn't be long now.

Lots of people on this forum cry scam over this coin or that. If you take part in a pump and dump, you are complicit in the scam.

Just go to google news and search pump and dump stock scam.

Are there any tutorials for installing the wallet on Linux? Using Linux Mint. Have the windows wallet installed in WINE, connects and is synchronizing but I don't see anywhere to add the address for the mining pool. Went to the options tab, then chose mining tab but there is only an enable or disable and choose the amount of threads to use. No place to enter address.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Can older Bitcoin mining equipment be used efficiently on altcoins? on: June 29, 2017, 02:43:24 AM
Can older model mining equipment be used to mine any of the altcoins new or old? Would it be efficient/profitable to do so?

I am completely new to mining.

$2000 is too strong, as you pointed out, too many people waiting for it to go to $2000, so the closer we get to $2000, the higher the chances it will start going up again. People aren't idiots and they are waking up to the importance of having a good bitcoin position for the future. "Buy the dip" has proven to be the winning strategy since the inception of bitcoin.

Limited supply and increasing demand: It will never stop going up.

Bitcoin is quite possibly in its mania phase of this current bubble.  The idea that it will never go down in price is proof of that. Nothing goes straight up forever.

Never buy any "investment" when it is at all time highs. You sell at all time highs and buy something with promise that is near all time lows. Bitcoins purpose is not to be an investment, its a currency. Currencies facilitate trade and are meant to circulate. Buying something with no intrinsic value and holding it long term in hopes that it will increase in price, is little more than gambling.

One day another currency will take the shine off of bitcoin or perhaps Bitcoin will become commonplace and with the novelty worn off it will settle to a price much lower than we are seeing now.

One day corporations may issue their own currency, a company like Amazon would instantly gain millions of users for its own digital currency and massive media coverage.  You can bet they are looking into it and in the meantime keeping a close eye on Bitcoin to see how people react to it.

Either way its not a straight up trajectory in price for ever.

All markets rise and fall. The crypto market is no different. Bitcoin may be able to meet some or all of those challenges, time will tell. But rest assured, there will be challenges.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ALIBABA TO ACCEPT BITCOIN BEFORE AMAZON & OTHERS on: June 26, 2017, 10:12:46 PM
Why does Amazon need Bitcoin when it can and most likely will offer its own "coin" or digital currency?

It would instantly have millions of people adopting it, massive media coverage and instant credibility.
 Win/Win for Bezos and Co.
