1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPA] SpainCoin: freedom for Spain - hardforked to Scrypt-N UPDATE WALLETS on: March 25, 2014, 12:53:54 PM
And the same old price story has begun

have you learned nothing of patience from this experience?

ideally, how often you sample a position's pnl (profit n loss, i.e. how the position is going), should vary inversely to the positions expected holding time.

e.g.

- If u plan to hold the position for 1 hour, look at the pnl every few minutes
- Elif u plan to hold the position for 1 week, look at it once a day

If you sample you position's pnl too much relative to holding time: you will lose your mind

when i heard about the hard-fork I placed 200 lot buy orders down to 0.00025 and turned off the computer (price collapsed afterwards, got filled, but didnt stress cuz wasn't actively sampling). Got filled on bittrex yesterday five times higher. Would I have acted in the same way if I had checked how the position was doing every 5 seconds? Absolutely not, I would have stressed out, dumped it, got back in at a higher price, maybe even get chopped to death and not make any money at all. No good...

can't short these, so u gotta be long to sell em. ride out the heat with patience

I agree with the posters here that Spaincoin needs some better advertising to bounce back so I've decided to help them...

Hard fork this Dev. Slow down the mining. 636,000 new coins mined since launch.

http://explorer.spaincoin.org/chain/Spaincoin?count=20

this is insane, diff has been as low as 10 and high as 550 today, wtf? somebody is gaming the shit out of KGW

theres a reason they've been doing this for 4 decades in the real world by letting options/share payouts take time to vest.

this is that reason:

New blog post: Multipool trouble
http://blog.spaincoin.org/2014/03/21/multipool-trouble/

tl;dr: Multipools are hitting us, causing trouble for miners and lowering the coin’s value. The Spaincoin network itself is completely healthy thanks to KGW. We’ll fix this issue completely with a hardfork soon, so multipools will stop hitting us.

that would explain why the diff has been jumping from 100 to 700 lately...

SpainCoinDev: is there any way to make newly mined blocks mature after some large amount of time, like 2-4 weeks, while still having fast transaction confirmations? That way you can't just mine them and dump them, you have to hold for at least awhile

Nobody will mine if they have to wait 2 weeks to get their coins.

i would personally still mine, i think others with a long term mentality would as well. Maybe two weeks is a bit much, but theres some point where the multipools won't mine it because their customers won't be willing to wait that long for payouts. our miners just have to be slightly more patient than the multipool miners to win in this scenario.

as you said yourself on the blog, its all these new miners jumping on the multipools. their greed factor is high, and level of patience small, so it really shouldn't take that big a hike in maturation time to price out the multipools. plus its just changing one parameter, rather than the entire validation process

my 2 cents. theres a reason they've been doing this for 4 decades in the real world by letting options/share payouts take time to vest.

this is why companies have their stock options paid to employees vest over a certain long period, usually years. That way they can't just dump their options immediately.

if this is technically possible it would destroy the multipool problem, or at least cut its effect by quite a bit. it would only attract miners that are in for the long term.

Are you stupid? who cares how long it takes for a block to mature if 50% of the coins have already mined and being dumped constantly from day 1.

get your facts right, dipshit, premined coins available:

Lol its verry cheap now BUY BUY BUY

what we're seeing here rt now is the "impatience discount"

it didn't go to $120/coin within 5 hours of launch so its clearly a scam

also, when is dev team gonna cure cancer??

There's also a bid for 628,000 SPA at 1 sat on CR. Doesn't change the fact there's no buy support at the current price.

exactly my point, those aggregates on the top of CR's book are bullshit

don't forget: you're the one who tried to use them as a meaningful metric earlier  Kiss

A small number of sell orders.
The BID/ASK ratio is 1500:1 on CR:

i would suggest scrolling down in the future

Hey, guys honestly, what max price in long term do you predict for SPA?

Will it be around the current price?

pewpew SPA is a sleeping giant, once it awakes it'll surprise the fk out of everyone.

If I am in almost complete loss, is it reasonable better to hold? I am not good at daytrading.

just curious, whats your average buy price?

My average price is around .003. So I wonder if SPA will ever reach that level. I did bad mistake, buying in a rush. I have learned very much from this.
There were opportunities to rise coin count within waves, but I didn't due to being afraid to lose more. No trade in stress. So now I see the price and feel more overwhelmed and at some moments laugh, how ridiculous were my actions.

0.003 could be worse man :-)

my general advice to anyone buying/selling these coins is that they should be treated as call options. They have a high potential upside, but have a good chance of losing 99% of their value over the life of the trade. Thus, every amount you buy you should be willing to lose.

You should think about that before you make the trade, ask yourself "if it lost 100% of its value would I be able to trade another day and pay for essentials like food, gas, shelter?" and if the answer is yes then by all means make the trade and hold on to it.

The great part about these coins is its like having perpetual call options, so at ~30cents/coin, SPA's valuation is justified by its time value premium alone. a fucking steal, in fact, considering its still a baby coin. Also as we saw with AUR, while they may be low probability, there are some paths SPA could take with spectacular payouts.

so yeah tl;dr if you don't need the money to eat or pay rent, child support, etc then hold em. or don't... still nibbling myself at these levels and wouldnt mind buying more dirt cheap SPA

I've been trading stocks for years. The time to buy is when there is very negative sentiment, not all the hype when people buy like crazy. Most times this works (not all, I admit). I've made a lot of money buying when people do indeed think I am a Moron. I guess just like people buying AUR a few days ago were labeled as idiots, are now enjoying very healthy returns.

+1 to that all day long

been trading mature financial markets for a decade (its what pays the bills) and by far the one behavior that has given me the most consistent long term opportunity to make money has been fading the shit out of exaggerated moves, esp panic up/dn moves

Oh and it seems an all around bad day for trading, even for btc.

altcoin and bitcoin prices flock together against fiat money. Part of it is most altcoins are denominated in btc so it passes thru declines in btc immediately to altcoin. however, most altcoins have a much higher price volatility than btc, so always expect them to swing the direction of btc, but with greater magnitude.

of course, if theres altcoin specific news item thats driving prices, that can overwhelm any effect btc is having on the altcoin and destroy correlations

just because there are more people with a gpu than there are with asics? hah!... dream on kids! cryptocoins are in real money range now. real traders came in, real big companies are investing millions and probably even hundreds of millions of dollars in equipment and you think gpus are the future? ahahahhahahaha

that being said, i do believe some small market for the other algos will always exist because always small hash miners will still want to make a buck or too. but it won't get volumes. and if it gets volumes, asics will rape it... you really think it's impossible to make an assic mine scrypt-n or sha3... daydreaming in my opinion
i thing you are realy kids wich lack any understanding of cryptoworld.

WHen multipool enter the script coin it    then dump to litecoin or bitcoin and it non stop lowers the price!

How many sha 256 coins survived??Everyone was dumped to bitcoin by multipools until the death

Look at doge..it had anormus popularity but his biggest problem was that is just regular script like litecoin so any multipool could enter..even demand for doge was great multipool mined tons of doges and dump to market for butcoin or litecoin ..and that lower the price..if doge was not script it would have now market cap of 1 bilion

IF you have coin that is not script like sha-3 you dont have multipool that will dump if your coin became more profitable then litecoin.

what evidence do you have that multipools have entered SPA? hashrate is sinking like a stone and i've been monitoring two big multipools for just such a risk:

https://www.ltcrabbit.com/index.php?page=altcoin
https://www.multipool.us/multiport_stats.php

and they are not mining SPA yet

just curious, i would def like to know if a multipool was at work

Suggest some of you re-direct your energy to positive action.......

.......Two great countries with extra reasons to embrace change, but how many of their citizens know of these coins?  Work to be done.  These coins connect with people's patriotism in a way others don't.  Their success is far from guaranteed but they have more chance than most, but promotion, marketing and education is what is needed right now, along with a little patience from us.

Thanks for a positive note! Wink

Lets try to push this coin, not for pump and dump but forever.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=509433.msg5801789#msg5801789

How can we push it with weak hands Cheesy Promotion? I'm not strong in that.

well for starters you could avoid posting EVERY one of your anxiety ridden shit fits, sit tight, and hold the coins you have bought, instead of freaking out in public. or you could just sell and stfu. not trying to be a dick here but youre 80% of the recent posts and they are all you pondering what an ass fucking you're receiving being long SPA, not exactly helping your, my, our cause here...

if you're so worried about it just dump it, i'm still buying incrementally lower. mining lowers the average cost of my position everyday, so panic away
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPA] SpainCoin: freedom for Spain, LAUNCHED! on: March 20, 2014, 03:19:19 AM
the difficulty is > 500 same as when SPA was $4-5/coin

I am still learning the mining terms and what they imply, but what you just said, does that imply the price should be higher?

difficulty is a parameter of the coin that determines how hard it is to find a block, i.e. how much hashing power it takes to generate any one coin

normally price and difficulty are cointegrated: a higher price attracts more miners, that raises difficulty. A lower price detracts miners and lowers difficulty. seeing price and difficulty move in opposite directions is odd

moreover, difficulty affects the tradeoff of mining vs buying the coin outright. if the diff is low you should mine the coin to acquire it. the higher the diff the more attractive it becomes to buy the coin rather than mine it
