I know I have stepped back from the organization, but I have matched the 50,000 donated for the giveaway. It is encouraging to see all the activity of those now managing Einsteinium, and I hope the giveaway goes well.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: June 05, 2014, 11:18:45 PM
Do you know who has access to the funds that were collected for the prior months donation? I may be wrong, but I dont think a donation occurred, did it?

Lets use those funds for bounties then.

See my edited response. The access will likely be handed over. Again, the community will need to determine those decisions if and when they wish to take ownership.

This is my last response in this thread for now.

If the community want's to take more ownership of EMC2 I am all for it.
To answer some questions though. The coin was not developed on contract, on the contrary it is quite the opposite. It was more or less done in the developers own time, with his own resources with his own idea/vision. It was never a contract effort. Some people joined shortly after it was developed and released, myself included. But it primarily started with the Dev who is still around, and a few people who helped him out. So please, it's best not to speculate on it's creation, and those involved. Some of us, put a great deal of time, effort, and money into this, myself included, with no financial gain, including the dev.
If you do want to reach the developer, which I highly advise if you wish to proceed.  With all that I would suggest contacting him at aszu@einsteinium.org. If you want to do a hand off to community ownership I highly suggest you email the developer and get in touch with Ryan in terms of the restructuring. With that being said, I highly advise working with Ryan on this going forward. I think Ryan (xhumanbeing) can become more of a resource in a few weeks.

With that being said, I cannot take on such the role I did before, my personal life is becoming a bit more active in the coming months. If you want to contact me for advice, or need information, please do. I don't personally have the time or energy to be involved as I once was.

I will not be paying much attention to this thread though...that's more an FYI. Good luck going forward, and you have my support if you wish to take more ownership of Einsteinium.

The coins value was too low to make a donation. Personally I am not going to pilfer the foundation's wallet to make a donation of a few hundred dollars, or dump the coins on the market. Which would have been the case in may, as it is the case now.
To answer where the foundation coins are, they are still in the foundation wallet, and not moving from there for the time being. I no longer manage that. Whoever ends up running the organization in the future will be responsible for managing the foundation wallet, as well as future donations, or however else the community determines how the resources should be used.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 28, 2014, 01:23:06 AM
I should note, to reach roughly the same amount of coins during the 50 year life as EMC2 is laid out, 300 million ...it would be around 2.0% per year for PoS when we implemented. So 10% per month is out, as stated that inflation rate is too high. With that being said, the rate of distribution would shift to being more even during this 50 year period.

Again, we are leaning towards PoS, not a new mining direction. Again whatever direction we go there will be detractors and supporters. In terms of the mechanics of PoS...we are still evaluating things, thus why we opened it up to the community. With that being said, our core dev does support a move towards PoS as supposed to a new mining algorithm, even though from his perspective it would be a heavy lift.

So to start, these are new bounties. The previous ones our dev team already accomplished.

1. Make a dedicated Einsteinium Web Forum. 50,000 EMC2
2. Integrating BionC (CPU) into our Wallet - 50,000 EMC2
3. Integrating guiminer scrypt into the wallet. Gui miner must be able to connect to PtoP and Stratum -50,000 EMC2
4. Google+ and YouTube Tip Bot  50,000 emc2
5. First Merchant to accept EMC2. 25,000 emc2
6. Second Merchant to accept EMC2. 25,000 emc2
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 17, 2014, 08:56:27 PM
The leadership structure is already in place, and the core dev never left the team. Some people came and went but a core group of us has been working on this, including the person who created the coin. We are not going to drop things just because one person quit publicly, and we are dedicated to continue working on this coin. There is a certain level of churn with organizations dependent on volunteers, a core group often sticks around, and others come and go. This has been the case for us as well.   Let me be clear once again, Bob left, not the core team involved. Those actually dedicated to the foundation and the coin are still around working on this despite what anybody else says. If you want to help us, you are welcome too.

The other issue is that the new website is done, and we are at the stage we need to fill out content before we deploy it. The content is not our web developers responsibility at this point. Once the content is done, the page will be deployed.

I should note one thing, if it is not already obvious, there was a hostile relationship between Bob and the Web Dev. There personalities clashed on more then one occasion. In some ways the personality clash acted as an impediment to accomplishing tasks.

As we said before, we welcome volunteers, as long as they are clear what they can do for us, and will work with us in a professional manner. We don't mind people who just want to accomplish a single task for us either. Again, the core group of us is still working on this, just because a single person quit publicly taking out their issues publicly on the board, does not mean those of us who are actually dedicated to the organization left.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 17, 2014, 01:00:48 PM
You're embarrassing yourself and the organisation Bobsurplus. Don't let everyone down.

Everyone is busy at times, let it go and move forward.

Don't ruin a reputation that has taken months to build.

Let me be very clear on this, he left. There are those of us are still working on this organization. If it has been a bit more quiet for the last few days it is because we had to discuss some steps we are planning out with those still involved. Things don't always go as planned and re-adjusting is not an easy task, especially when one is trying to build something. Some people have the patience to work through this, others do not. The organization should be posting some bounties soon though based on input from the community, and our own goals.

I should note, many of us have personal lives, and at times things come up where they are not as available for a period. This happens to people working on a team, sometimes they just cannot do as much. This is in addition to the normal churn that happens, people come and go.  The team members of Einsteinium are no exception to this. There are a few of us who essentially are there, and will be there for the long run, but there are those who leave for their own reasons. Those with us though have to work in the constraints of their own life.

Hi everyone,

I never posted before, but I think so it's the moment that any supporter, miner, trader, holder of EMC2 should talk.

So first, thanks to the devs, the foundation and to anyone who is spreading the word for EMC2. A lot of great job has been done.

I'm a gpu miner, a rig tinker. I almost quit of CC after the tsunami of badnews, exchange scams, junkcoins and other bs, I thought that everything at CC starts to be hopeless and meaningless. Just a virtual ponzi casino.

But 6 weeks ago I discovered EMC2 and I thought "finally a CC with a PURPOSE!!!". Not just a another coin to donate, but a tool itself to provide the research community a source of direct funding. So some hashing and holding EMC2.

Now may be it's time to stepforward to try to strenght the community.

Imho I believe one of the key adds to the coin and to the foundation will be to open an official forum to organize the community... together we'll support the devs, we'll help the foundation, we'll expand and we'll keep the FUD out of the coin.

If we sum all our efforts may be we can achive the purpose that motivated us to develop, spread, mine, trade and donate EMC2. May be we're just a bunch of fools scattered around the globe, but a lot of meaning things started like that.

So +1 to anything to that direction, for me is worth to try.

All hands on deck!!!  Smiley

In terms of the community aspect outside of bitcoin talk. We do have an official subreddit and I would like more activity there. It would probably be the best place since we have an active tipbot there. I should note, I am still running a little giveaway about posting there, including what direction we should go as a team.

With that being said, an official forum may help, I am not sure if we are at that point, and I am also not sure if it has any advantage over a subreddit. The other question is maintenance, adminstration and upkeep of such a place. With that being said, I will present it as a potential item on the development task list item.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 15, 2014, 12:04:53 AM
Hi everyone,

As 'the official' developer for the coin, I would like to chime in.
I have been using einsteinium account on the forum in the past, but this time I am posting from my own one.

Bob's frustration is partially my fault - I could not devote as much time as I wanted to the project recently. I believe he wants the best for the coin, but he gets discouraged easily where there are no immediate results.

However, the important thing to stress out that we have got a great, very dedicated team behind the coin, working really hard around the clock. Becuase Einsteinium essentially revolves around The Foundation, the 'coin dev' part is just a little element in the whole puzzle and actually maybe not even the most important one.

It is true that things and various projects we are currently involved with take longer than expected, but please keep in mind we all have got full-time jobs and we are doing our best to manage this. The Einsteinium Foundation is a non-profit organization, so our funding options are quite limited as well.

We are here for a long haul. Thanks to everyone involved, Foundation have already vitally contributed to the science development with the donations made so far - this is something rather unheard of in crypto world. It is only going to get better from here.

I want to reassure you that we are 100% for supporting the coin and The Foundation. Personally, I strongly believe that with Einsteinium we have created something trully unique and significant in crypto landscape (and beyond). It is not just the currency alone, but the synergy with the Foundation that make EMC2 to stand out and that legitimizes is as a viable long term undertaking - unlike many coins out there that just exist for their own sake.

Thanks for your ongoing support - we could not make it that far without you. Please bear with us as we work towards making Einsteinium even better project.

I can also confirm this is the core dev.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 14, 2014, 05:06:08 PM
Bob has been very helpful in some ways. But he is finding himself frustrated with certian things. In some ways he let that frustration out on the board.
In the last few days my partner has experessed interest to join and he is an experienced Dev. As I stated before, additional devs is something we could always use. Some things we wished to make forward process on are not moving as quickly as desired.

There are some things I should state, I would not call it dead. There will be some changes to the organization going forward. But that was likely something that would have come at some point anyway. The first six months with any new endeavor can be a bit of a trial. It can be incredibly frustrating in the day to day for those directly involved with it.

I should note, if you wish to help PM me.

We need to get some things hammered out with our lead dev before making any definitive statements, especially in terms of objectives. Thank you for the input though, it has helped.

Scam? Last I checked we are the furthest thing from it.
We actually gave about $3250 total between our two winners of the two epochs between our funding award and fundraising. Providing science funding, no matter how large or small is central to the mission, and we have done it so far, and we will continue to do it. This is quite the opposite of a scam, which these days is so common these days on the market it's not funny. As people who have actually been following pointed this out, we are a charity coin.  There was no large instamine, whatever coins we used to fund our winners were sold above market rate to buyers to fund the projects we backed.

I should note, we launched with no premine, no real instamine, no IPO, and a clean launch. We have been listed as one of the few ethical coins. In fact all of the markers of a scam, we have none. The coins on the market have been mined. The components of most scam coins feature large instamines, premines, secret launches, and deceptive IPOs. We had none of those features.

Even those that have an issue with us, have not claimed we are a scam. They may have some issue with some aspects of what we were doing, and we may have butted heads, but not once did I hear the word "scam" until now.
Those who have been around since the start know this history and what we have done so far. Again we are a charity coin, but we are not close to being a scam. In fact those who are setting this up are doing so at a loss. Even if we have to make a smaller donation next epoch, we are still going to make a donation.

The price is down, but the reality is the market is not something we really have much control. Just because the coin is down does not make us a scam. Especially when the market in general which is prone to a significant amount of volatility, and irrationality.

Right now we seem to be a target of irrational trolls for reasons I cannot quite understand.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 12, 2014, 06:48:34 PM
it would be useful now the third epoch wormhole....price 'd surely pump
This actually happens pretty randomly, we have no control of when it happens.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 12, 2014, 03:25:23 PM
There isn't a super long term plan of many years to be had with any coin aside from Bitcoin so everyone is a medium to short term investor by default. To invest your life savings into bitcoins let alone any altcoin is incredibly risky; I'm not a financial advisor but my 2 cents would be not to do it. There is no coin in the crypto coin world today that is a long term investment of many years in my opinion.

I don't see changing the coins fundamentals as a bad thing. I actually see it as a good thing. It's show me and fellow investors that the developers are willing to keep up with the dynamic and constantly evolving technological world that we live in.

I have said my piece, I hope the developers/promoters know what they're doing, however no one can really _know_ what they're doing, they can just hope their chosen path is the right one.

Lifeforce will still support EMC2 whatever the outcome.

Hey bud,

I'm glad to see that you'll continue to support our coin no matter what outcome plays out. Personally I believe that this coin needs to stick to its roots. Its was born scrypt and it should live as scrypt. I saw you post about other "more secure" algos. Care to give me a lesson on the pros and cons of the other algos you were mentioning earlier in the thread. To me I see it as "if an algo is strong then its strong, wont matter if its scrypt-n, scrypt, x11 or sha 256". They are all pretty unbeatable.

I believe it comes down to perception. It doesn't matter if one algo is actually more secure than another, but if the market perceives that it is, that's all that matters. So if x11 is perceived as being more secure by the market, and scrypt perceived as a weaker algo, that will be reflected in price and value.

Don't forget EMC2 also is a charity coin in a profit-fuelled industry, it's already got its work cut out for itself.

BTW (and this is not directed to anyone): I don't mine EMC2, I provide a pool for it so I'm not swayed by EMC2's algo directly. My views are purely for the future of the coin and should be taken as impartial.

Whatever the developers decided, we will stand by it. I just hope that if they do do something about it later, its not too late.

Except the problem is outside of darkcoin many of the new algorithm coins have not been particularly strong either. I should note, in terms of vulnernerabilities, X11 has a number of them our dev identified for us, one it is hacked together, and the other problem is it is suseptable to botnets. Outside of darkcoin many x11 coins have not fared very well. Again, there is no real compelling case to change algorithms, even in terms of market value or perception. The perception may be coming from GPU miners, not necessarily the market in general. The market right now is in general chasing heavily pre-mined and ipo scams, and in general very short term thinking. There is a high degree of irrationality at this point on the market coming from this short term thinking, and that is the core of the problem, and why scams keep creeping up. This goes beyond the previous behavior coins created to be mined and dumped, which used to be common, but has fallen out of practice with cryptorush failing. In some ways being ethical, and more long term oriented is not necessarily a bad thing.

That does not necessarily mean we should not improve in other ways in both the short and intermediate term. Again, some actually good ideas are coming out of this conversation so far, and I think the development timeline may be one of the better ones.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 12, 2014, 02:47:07 PM
Huh Huh
any official statement before we totally drop and forget this coin?
not that I don't believe in the project or ideas behind it, but without a strong coin that can hold its value and grow, the rest won't matter anymore.

btw, it's not by changing algo, it's not by adding Pos or whatever the new flav of the week is... but it's by having an agenda and creating buzz around it.
(and no, i'm not here for p&d)

thanks if you can say something cuz we decided to move our coins back to exchanges now  Sad

I think its time to the dev to do statment about EMC2,what going on, overall progress on work and stop kepping silence on project coming(new wallet?etc)

simply made a roadmap

The roadmap is not a bad idea.
In terms of the new wallet, that may be a ways out, that could take more time then anything else.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the future with the future of currency on: May 12, 2014, 04:40:17 AM
Lets change algo to scrypt-n
and merge mining with VTC

No, just no. Scrypt-N is even less efficient then scrypt. It is also not anymore secure then scrypt. There are no advantages going that direction.

There will be an official response from the developers regarding this in detail, with that being said this is my personal response.

In terms of any hashing algorithms being more secure, that is more myth and marketing then fact. In fact some of those present their own problems in terms of both security and the potential for botnets after analysis by our developer. Basically, they present some major security issues.  In addition some of these new algorithms are literally hacked together, they seem power efficient because they are not optimized. Good hashing algorithms, which scrypt is one, generally have the same level of security, and the same vulnerabilities. Scrypt is actually a secure algorithm, there is nothing wrong with it, other then a significant amount of irrational FUD around scrypt ASICs that is prolific right now.  Despite the fact that many of the scrypt asics have not made an appearance, and will likely be gradually be introduced into einsteinium's network. The reality is the advantage to ASICs, is actually security.

In terms of efficiency, some may be more power efficient in terms of GPU mining, that is not mean they are as efficient as they can be in general, and as I stated before, a few of them present their own problems in terms of security. As it has been pointed out, is ASICs are more efficient then GPUs no matter the algorithm, and there is a point where we will need to transition to that form of mining at some point. With that being said, as predicted, it would be needed at a certain point in our life-cycle, especially considering the halving schedule.

I would also not confuse investors with GPU miners either. The two groups are not necessarily the same. We see no reason to change our algorithm at this point. Essentially, it would just be a gimmick with no real advantage.

With all that being said changing the algorithm, and implementing such a large fork can present significant risks. This could range from outright killing the coin, the loss of previous coins, or something else. Litecoin laid out one, the biggest risk is it presents the risks of essentially creating a new coin and two separate forks. In this way forking the coin with a new hashing algoritm presents is a significant security risk, and one with no guaranteed rewards. Keeping the algorithm as is, ups and downs included, at least insures we will not see those risks that are introduced through a new algorithm change, which is in many ways, a gimmick, and one that can introduce major issues.

It is not likely to happen to fork to a new hashing algorithm.

Something more...
http://bitcoinmafia.com/other-altcoins/what-is-einsteinium-coin/big-einsteinium-giveaway-begins-weekend/

This is something I will be doing using my own coins. I will not be using the foundations funds.

I am stuck inside all day with allergies, and also working on something for the foundation. Your science stories on reddit will be a nice distraction while I take breaks.

Tell your friends...I have a nice stack of coins ready for tips. It is time to grow our reddit community.

Update:
I have donated the $1500 (Einsteinium Epoch award) + $200 (Fundraiser to date) to Mend Therapeutics directly since they did not meet their experiment goal.
