1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: low electrcity cost - gpu mining worth it? on: October 30, 2013, 10:07:43 PM
Final question for my gaming needs. Out of Hd 7790, Hd 7850 and HD 7870 which is the best for mining. Ideally I would get a HD 7870 but if a HD 7790 is significantly more efficient I would be prepared to settle for that because I only really want the Hd 7870 for future proofing.

The most efficient for scrypt mining is 7950, unfortunately it is not on your list of candidates. Would you change mind?

The HD 7950 is past "future proofing" and firmly in the "more than i need" category. Somtimes I see them on sale though. If a Hd 7950 is on sale around the 7th when i get paid I will get that one. Out of Hd 7790, 7850 and 7870 which would you recommend?

Haha yeah it sounds like a dick move. It isn't because I don't spend that much time at home and I have to leave the heating on anyway to stop pipes freezing. Everyone else uses the dryer and washing machine and what not shit loads ... i hardly ever use it :S. So it was an idea i had to make the whole splitting the bill between 7 people fairer lol.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: low electrcity cost - gpu mining worth it? on: October 30, 2013, 09:18:22 PM
Well basically. I live in Norway it is fucking cold in winter anyway. If I could have the gpu running constantly to stop the pipes freezing rather than the radiator on that would be awesome. Also there no need to factor in the cost of the gpu because I need to buy a new one for gaming anyway (I am running apu at the moment).

The main point is if I am just paying a tiny amount for the electricity because it is divided by 7ish people and I get a 100% of the LTCs will I be out of pocket?

I only pay 1/8 of the electricity bill in my flat. If I mined LTC with say a HD 7790 would I make any money?

6  Bitcoin / Mining / How long does it take you to make one btc at current difficulty? on: July 14, 2011, 11:20:02 AM
If you could state how long it takes you to mine one btc ... other interesting info might be what pool you use (assuming you're not going solo!, hashrate and hardware plus anything else you deem notworthy.

I am currently mining about 0.1 btc a day with two HD 5850s at about 550mh/s, one on all the time and one on some of the time, once it becomes unprofitable for me I am going to back to just having them in crossfire. I also have a Hd 4850 kicking about, but I am not sure I can be bothered to set that one up as I am missing one or two very cheap things for it but by the time I get them the 80mh/s it'll add will make it totally worthless.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should I sell and re-buy? on: July 06, 2011, 01:11:28 AM
skyhigh I sold at 8.3 and bought back at 7. that is £1.30 difference ... if i had more BTC I would have made a fair bit of money.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should I sell and re-buy? on: July 05, 2011, 07:49:51 PM
Well because btcguild was down I was banking on some people being unable to sell and when it came back online the price going down a little bit. Anyway long story short I bought back at £7 which as low as the price has gone today on britcoin. Doubt it will go seriously below £7 so pretty pleased. Expecting it to rebound tomorrow. So far it looks like I was right to sell and buy back.

I reckon everyone is going to start buying now ... opinions?

How do you trade on the US markets, because I have noticed that britcoin price lags behind the US prices sometimes but I have no way to capitalise on it because I can't trade on the US sites Sad?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should I sell and re-buy? on: July 05, 2011, 01:11:03 PM
TBH prices rebounded slightly on britcoin after I sold lol. They went from £8.3 to £8.45. But prices in the US are still slowly dropping it would seem. I think overall it will drop to below £8 by the end of the day. I am still overall slightly in profit from BTC so I don't miind taking the slight lose I took there if I can buy back lower.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should I sell and re-buy? on: July 05, 2011, 01:02:12 PM
Lost my nerve ... sold. But I will keep an eye on it when it starts to stabilise out (could be very low) I will buy back.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / should I sell and re-buy? on: July 05, 2011, 12:54:46 PM
Basically I bought some btcs last night thinking at £9.5 that they wouldn't go much lower anticipating what i believe to be an inevitable reversal. However since then they have dropped to £8.3. Should I sell the ones I bought 8.3 in the hope they will drop as low as maybe £5 and buy then?

Yes I am too. Glad to hear it isn't just me!
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is mining worth it for me (special set of circumstances ... complex beware!) on: June 30, 2011, 01:43:20 PM
Yes I get that there is no way to know for certain, but of course you can predict, it might be totally wrong and I accept that. I personally don't think that the difficulty is going to continue at the same rate. But I want to know what others think Smiley.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Is mining worth it for me (special set of circumstances ... complex beware!) on: June 30, 2011, 01:36:14 PM
At the moment I am mining with my single Hd 5850 because I happened to own a Hd 5850 before I even knew about bitcoin. I recently bought some new hardware for my computer which I have also wanted before I knew about bitcoin. Obviously the cost of these purchases can't be deducted against any money I make from mining because I would have made them anyway.

Now for the tricky part, I have wanted a 2nd HD 5850 for quite awhile because that would be roughly all the horse power I need for the gaming I do. I have found someone selling 2 of the card I want ... sounds to good to be true right? It is. He is selling them at a price I feel uncomfortable paying. I am thinking well I might as well buy one to go with the one I already have because the amount I paid over the odds with be recouped easily from mining with them. However the other issue is should I got for the second one and then I would have 3 Hd 5850s.

I could then have a dedicated mining rig with 3 Hd 5850s in it, but going for that 3rd one increases the cost drastically because I would be buying it just for mining so I would have to fully recoup it's value for it to be worth it.

Here is a simple summary:

option one - I buy one of the HD 5850s

cost to recoup: £10-20 I pay over the odds (I obviously only need to mine 2 bitcoins with it which should be pretty easy).

option two - buy both of those HD 5850s so I have 3 in total

cost to recoup: £150-175 (need a second case, a sempron cpu and obviously the cost of the Hd 5850 i'll probably need some more fans as well which are $$$ :S).

Summary
Up until a week ago my single Hd 5850 was pulling in a rather nice 0.2ish bitcoins per day (it wasn't dedicated so not mining all the time, would have been closer to 0.25+ if it was dedicated). Since then it has dropped to 0.125 per day after the difficulty increase. So 3 dedicated on current difficulty will net me 0.375 roughly per day. Obviously if target stays how it is and all variables remain the same etc etc etc I could recoup the cost in just over a month and anything after that is profit plus a heater in the winter Cheesy. The trouble is the difficulty will change and the cost of bitcoins could change. Say the difficulty continues on it's current trajectory (50%+ increases for simplicity) then I am going to go 0.375 to 0.1875 to 0.09375 to 0.046875 per/ day. If that happens I will never get the cost back.

I have noticed a lot of people on hear making confident predictions about difficulty increases. Ultimatley this decision hinges on the difficulty increases. So using that knowledge you lot seem to have give me your votes for option 1 or option 2!

As others have said it is obviously necessary to protect the system.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / At what price do you think bitcoins will stabilise out at? on: June 27, 2011, 03:27:10 PM
In the title really how high will the price of bitcoins go .... will it break the $30 point within the next few months?
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Won't britcoin just eat my money? on: June 24, 2011, 05:26:21 PM
Well what a fucking surprised it ate my bloody bitcoins. I don't know why I bothered I knew it would. There is no way of linking the payment with my account so obviously it would can't believe I am so dumb to think it would by magic.

https://britcoin.co.uk/?page=deposit

That is the webpage you get. So basically all you get is a website with his wallet address ... you give him your BTCs he has no idea they are from you so he prolly just changes them into $$$ and goes out and spends them.

DO NOT USE BRITCOIN SCAM SITE.

what annoys me most is he is one of those pricks that goes on about making BTCs accessible for the massives. He does this by making a really crap website with no explanation as to how YOUR DEPOSITS will be linked to YOU.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Won't britcoin just eat my money? on: June 24, 2011, 12:35:51 PM
I want to deposit some BTC on britcoin. The only problem is how does britcoin know that the BTCs I desposit are mine!? All it does is give me britcoin's wallet address. So once I pay the btcs into the wallet how will they know they came from me and are associated with my account?

I want to use their website, it's just my computer is a bit crappy and it took me a while to build up that one BTC lol so don't wanna lose it into an account which prolly has thousands.

Any explanation help would be much appreciated!
