1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can't get refund, over 1 month now!!! Neptune on: May 13, 2014, 11:42:27 AM
You should take the BTC refund unless that poses some tax problems for you. Not sure why they don't convert the BTC themselves. I guess their master plan didn't take into account the below 450$ BTC price possibility.
2  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Special Group Buy - Spondoolies-Tech SP30 pre-order] Specs: 0.83$/GH + 0.46W/GH on: April 28, 2014, 01:54:50 PM
If they do deliver you will have the best miner on the market.

6 TH at 13% increase every 2016 blocks from 1 August will ROI in about 80 days not factoring electricity.

Free shipping is great.

Still on the fence though.

At currents rates this is 10+ BTC.

Also this miner will only make ~5.5 BTC profit for the rest of the year(not factoring electricity).

So basically you have to risk all this, take care of the miner and if all goes well you will make ~$2500 - 5 months of 2.5 KW electricity by the end of the year.

But maybe the diff increase could go below 10% for the last months of the year.

Great idea and support for the community.

Good luck with the sales.
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New to SHA256 mining. Am I understanding Bitcoin calculators correctly? on: April 28, 2014, 12:07:01 PM
Indeed the difficulty jumps seem to be lower and lower.

Also you might be able to sell the miner after. Or use it as a heater  Shocked.

I think those will ROI by a small margin if you don't pay a huge amount on electricity. You would need quite a few of them to make a nice profit though.

But there is nothing really appearing on the horizon to compete with those...maybe a 1.8-2.1k 1TH miner.

Pretty sure that site is SCAM.

Is there any kind of bounty for block finders?
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.885 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 16, 2014, 02:53:56 PM
The price was 0.893 BTC for like 3-4 weeks. Since an Ant generates a fixed amount of BTC that's not fair. Of course it's a free market so...if the device sells...

Still the cheapest out there though..

At 3,33$ they are overpriced. But no problem, they will mine themselves.  Undecided

10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PBmining - legit? on: April 08, 2014, 11:08:20 AM
The biggest problem (beside the chance of being a scam+ponzi) is the fact that you can't resell your power.

So even if you ROI by the end of the year you won't make much after. You could of course invest what you earn or even more to keep up with the difficulty but to me it makes more sense to do that on cex.
11  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cheapest GH/S on: April 08, 2014, 10:57:56 AM

How can Cex relocate their absurdly huge farm in China if PBOC bans banks from accepting BTC related companies?

Strange this cex.io sale, very strange.

Why would they need to move the farm if PBOC bans banks from accepting BTC related companies ?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: KnC Titan. Now 250Mhash. on: March 27, 2014, 04:58:02 PM
250 Mh is insane. What will alpha-t do now?

This is exactly how i feel, ive been mining vert for a bit aswell now do to what i expect will be a boom in the coin and a large price increase. I do see more and more coins going towards N Factor, it is obvious to keep a coin decentralized they need to keep it Asic resistant. I am just ready for more and more N factor coins so dificulty is less concentrated on Vert.

Vert is not really ASIC resistant as it still uses scrypt and ASIC's could be modified to mine this as well...

The best ASIC resistant coins are ones that use multiple/unique algos as well as random hashes. Coins like Quark, Hirocoin, EMC2(soon to be), Darkcoin etc .. as well as the POS coins like blackcoin and mintcoin, that use proof of stake to mint...

Vert is REALLY ASIC resistant, it is not because of it cannot produce ASIC to mine Vert, but due to N-Factor changing, it is limit time ASIC cycle.
For example, when you created an ASIC for Vert, you will likely to be able to use only 1 year or less due to N-Factor changing. So, it will cost you a lot.

While other algorithm using in Dark, Quark is NOT ASIC resistant anymore. Why I say like that ?
According to NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), if you want to become SHA3 candidate, you need to be able to __create by ASIC___. AND every algorithms in X11 used to be SHA3 candidate until Keccak win the competition and become SHA3.

Here is the paper : http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/ST/hash/sha-3/Round2/Aug2010/documents/papers/SCHAUMONT_SHA3.pdf

So, You cannot say those coin is ASIC resistent because when they come out, it is done, while Vert is not the same due to N-Factor which keeps changing.

X11 the algorithm of DRK has blake, bmw, groestl, jh, keccak, skein, luffa, cubehash, shavite, simd and echo. The ASIC must be able to solve all those algorithms. Or at least that's my understanding.
13  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: people buying used miners on: March 27, 2014, 04:34:29 PM
Well most miners could be considered used. I'm not sure why people buy from ebay while they are cheaper in China. Yes it takes longer but  is +50% price justifying few days of delay? Maybe if the seller is from your country and in the end you don't pay VAT...
14  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: people buying used miners on: March 27, 2014, 04:25:06 PM
if you need a rise in btc prices to roi your miner you shoulnd`t buy it. just buy some btc and hold it. buying a miner only makes sence if it wil produce more btc then you can currently buy with that money.

+1

although if you don't plan on buying with fiat but the price drops suddenly like it is now and you decide to invest you could calculate your ROI starting from your initial fiat investment. I know, it's just mental acrobatics but still...I don't like to buy low but I like to invest low.
15  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Nearly burned down my home due to mining farm (tips on how to stay safe ) on: March 18, 2014, 04:43:06 PM
Let's talk about preventative measures.  I have 6 Antminers of my own in my apartment and I am always checking their temperature.  I think the general consensus seems to be to keep the miners 50 degree celsius or below.  Also, use the formula Watts= Amps x Voltage and stay below 80% of max load.  I have a fan blowing into the room and a exhaust duct blowing out of the dryer duct.  I currently have a 4" inline fan from Home Depot powering the duct but it sucks so I ordered a more powerful one on Amazon.  I may even hire an electrician to check the setup.  Glad you are okay dude.

The ventilation as-is is not enough.  Right now the outside weather is cool and I have the mining room door wide open with a fan blowing in.  I'll see how things go when the more powerful inline duct fan comes in.

edit:  I just unplugged my Antminers and will remain so until further research into safety.  Thanks for sharing your story.

You might be overreacting. Put them on metal plates or floor tiles just to be safer.
16  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: people buying used miners on: March 18, 2014, 04:21:45 PM
Yeah, it's crazy. I watched 38Gh/s miners go for $500+ on ebay. That's more than $12 per Gh. People buying like that are what's making the price go up. A Gh is not worth more than $3.

Praytell, where can I buy mining hardware for less than $3/Ghash?

Assume I don't want to budget more than $1000.

I would also comment that these devices on e-bay are "in hand", meaning they may ship in less than "two weeks".

I don't think there is such a miner. Maybe if you buy second hand, don't pay VAT and the miner eats incredible amounts of electricity. And you get it next winter.
17  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How many GH/s or TH/s is needed to make asic bitcoin mining profitble on: March 18, 2014, 03:49:14 PM
0.13 btc in 6 days.. Isnt that very low.. How much you paid for 200ghs?

Cant speak for long term, but around 200 ghs made me 0.13 in 6 days (just set up my other one last night so now I will get more Smiley .)
The price was $885 (I used a psu from something else on that one.)
Don't even ask what my scrpyt rigs for 6 times the price made this week.... Cry

There you go  Grin
The same thing I bought is 200 dollars cheaper now.  Oh well, fucked myself as usual by being impatient unless btc goes up to 700 next week.

Don't beat yourself up. Yes the price dropped but it takes some time for the units to be delivered. In the meantime you are mining. Assuming you bought from the official website. The guy there is really cool and he drops the price almost as much as you would be earning mining those days.

This miner eats 40-50$/month in electricity so in theory, assuming you get back your investment, you could use it until you make less than $50/month in BTC.

I estimate your rigs made ~0.26 BTC that week:D. So sell GPU rigs and buy sha ASICs but I can't find anything beside ANTminer to buy that does not need $3k+ and 3+months waiting time. Any ideas?

18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How many GH/s or TH/s is needed to make asic bitcoin mining profitble on: March 06, 2014, 04:47:54 PM
What do you guys think about the 180 GH ASICS? They are priced at 1.16 BTC and you get them in 4-5 days I think.

Difficulty is the biggest problem. Not the 1-3% fee. The electricity might also be a factor  especially for small non USB ASICS.
