1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Whatsminer M21S firmware (unable to upgrade) on: May 28, 2021, 05:13:53 AM
I attempted to download the latest Whatsminer M21S firmware from the following page and upgrade with the WhatsMinerTool:

https://www.whatsminer.com/server/firmware.html?locale=en

My devices came with the following version on them: 20210322.22.REL

When flashing the WhatsMinerTool says successful, but we have no luck.

If anyone has any idea why this is happening or any other firmware files that I could try this would be great.

Additionally, if anyone has any clue how to SSH into one of these that would be great as well.
2  Bitcoin / Mining support / Flashing Braiins OS+ on Antminer S9 control boards using a Desktop PC PSU on: March 10, 2021, 04:19:54 AM
I need to flash Braiins OS+ on 35 Antminers from my house. I am trying to figure out what equipment I will be needing and if it will be possible without actually running the miners.

Powering:
I don't think I will be able to run an Antminer PSU at my house so I am wondering if I will be able to power just the control board of each miner with any PC power supply that has 6 pin PCI-e ports coming from it. Please let me know if this will work and if there are any better/cheaper alternatives here.

Flashing:
Since I most likely don't have the network infrastructure with a switch and several ethernet ports to flash them in bulk, I am stuck flashing one miner at a time by plugging it into an open port on my router. I think alternatively, I could use an SD card, but from what I understand it is best to just use bos-toolbox through the LAN connection.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Problems executing bitcoind on Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB) with Ubuntu Server on: March 02, 2021, 09:13:34 PM
Trying to install and run Bitcoin Core Daemon on a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB w/ Ubuntu Server and unable to execute bitcoind or any of the executables.

**Below are the exact steps I am taking:**

1. Use Raspberry Pi imager to flash the Ubuntu Server image to an SD card:
Ubuntu Server 20.04.2 LTS (RPi 3/4/400)
64-bit server OS with long-term support for arm64 architectures

2. Insert the SD card, turn on the Raspberry Pi, SSH in.

**Run the following commands:**

Code:
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt upgrade
    sudo reboot
    # Download bitcoin core (I am getting this directly from the link on the site that says ARM Linux 64 Bit - 32 Bit):
    curl -O https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.21.0/bitcoin-0.21.0-arm-linux-gnueabihf.tar.gz
    # Unzip
    tar xzf bitcoin-0.21.0-arm-linux-gnueabihf.tar.gz
    #Install
    sudo install -m 0755 -o root -g root -t /usr/local/bin bitcoin-0.21.0/bin/*

When running the following I get the message (bash: /usr/local/bin/bitcoind: No such file or directory):

Code:
    bitcoind --help

I have attempted to cd to /usr/local/bin and run

Code:
    ./bitcoind --help

When running:
Code:
ldd /usr/local/bin/bitcoind
I get "not a dynamic executable". Which leads me to believe the bitcoin core executables are not for ARM 64 even though the Bitcoin site says ARM 64 Bit - 32 Bit.

Anyone have any ideas here? I am assuming Ubuntu Server 20.04.2 LTS (RPi 3/4/400) does not come with the correct libraries to run the Bitcoin ARM executables.
4  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Changing the Description of an Incoming Payment in the Receive tab of Electrum on: March 01, 2021, 04:16:07 PM
Great! Thank you for confirming. Do you think it is alright that I updated the .json directly with the message that I wanted since Electrum UI does not allow it?
5  Bitcoin / Electrum / Changing the Description of an Incoming Payment in the Receive tab of Electrum on: March 01, 2021, 03:55:39 PM
I recently went to the receive tab of my Electrum wallet and generated a new address to receive some Bitcoin. I accidentally left the description field blank before clicking the New Address button and would like to add a description after the fact for future reference.

What I noticed:
1. I noticed in the History tab I can edit the description of any transaction listed here. I was able to update the description on this tab.
2. I noticed in the Receive tab there is still no description for this transaction and the UI does not allow you to edit the description after it was already generated.

My questions:
1. I found that a way to add the description is to open the wallet's .json file and fine the Message: "" field and add the description I wanted. I am assuming this json file is what Electrum uses to load values in the UI and as long as I don't go around changing things like the structure or fields I don't know about then I should be fine. Is there anything wrong with me doing this?
2. Does the description field have anything to do with what is actually transmitted to the network or just for local reference within the Electrum app?
3. If I were to ever lose this .json I am assuming I could do a wallet restore with the recovery phrase. If I were to do this I would assume all descriptions I ever entered would be missing. Is this correct?

I am speechless... the thing just decided to start working again, I wish I knew what happened haha. Thanks for the help!
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner.exe does not run anymore after restarting rig (Windows) on: November 24, 2020, 09:59:32 PM
I appreciate you letting me know that the issue must be on my end. The rig setup is fine and worked perfectly using PhoenixMiner 5.1 the last time I ran my start.bat file a few weeks ago. There was a power outage last night and there were pending windows updates and when turning on today the command doesn't work.

The rig consists of: Eight 8GB 580s.

I updated to the absolute latest PhoenixMiner 5.2 to see if it would fix the issue and still the same problem.

I was reading some older posts and horror stories of things accidental Windows Updates can do like change the registry of windows defender or update the graphics cards to a version that they shouldn't be, etc.. These are the things I am looking into. If you can think of anything else to look into, please let me know. It is very strange the command line opens and does absolutely nothing then just runs the pause command. No useful error logs or anything.

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / PhoenixMiner.exe does not run anymore after restarting rig (Windows) on: November 24, 2020, 07:15:30 PM
I restarted my rig and PhoenixMiner will not run anymore. This is the same .bat file I have been using for a long time. It calls the PhoenixMiner.exe command and then says No Cuda Drivers detected which is pretty normal since I don't use the -AMD flag and then instead of proceeding it just stops and says pause, press any key to continue and the command line closes. My guess is that Windows has added something in their latest update that is preventing PhoenixMiner.exe from running. I can't be the only person with this issue, hoping someone else has restarted their Windows miner within the past 30 days and has the same problem. Here is a post on Reddit with the exact same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/comments/joq272/phoenixminer_51c_exits_immediately_with_no_message/

Does this have anything to do with ETH2.0 and the end of Eth mining? My gut is telling me something changed with the latest Windows updates (which installed due to an accidental restart) that is causing the miner not to run. I can confirm this .bat file has worked for over a year now and just randomly stopped.

adaseb and Regulator: very well put. Still hesitant about my next move being that I already invested in a brand new 8GPU RX580 rig with a 2yr ROI. If I do build another rig it will be Nvidia based since it looks like Nvidia can run way more algorithms at a profitable rate. Also looking into making the RX580 more efficient by possibly investing in solar to cut down electrical costs, so far it seems like it would take 20K worth in solar equipment to run the 1050w 24/7.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it official that GPU mining is guaranteed to be irrelevant in 2 to 3 years? on: August 15, 2019, 01:18:04 PM
philipma1957: I know it isn't much profit but my 8 RX580 rig is doing the following:

256mh/s @ 1050w

.1333c electrical costs

If you enter these values into whattomine.com you will see that today the daily profit is only 10cents but that is because Eth is doing terrible right now. I have seen this number range from $0.10 to $2.60 daily profit with this rig all depending on where Eth is at. I know some would say why go through all of the hassle just to make $30 a month at best, but I don't see what the big deal is. Lets say Eth goes up to $300 prior to 2020 it would definitely be profitable for this rig to mine even at .1333c electrical costs.

I never experienced 2017,2018 when profit was at its best so maybe I don't know what I am missing out on.
Would like you guys to share your thoughts, I am no guru with this stuff.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it official that GPU mining is guaranteed to be irrelevant in 2 to 3 years? on: August 14, 2019, 07:24:56 PM
deadsix: Thank you for the response! My electrical cost is .1333 c which is worse than 10. You are saying it would be a terrible move to spend 5K on a new rig as of today? I have read things saying that coins that use Equihash will always keep GPU mining alive even if Eth goes away. In my case my RX580 rig might go to waste since can primarily mine Ethash coins only, but Nvidia rigs seem to mine several different algos well.

Just trying to figure out the best case scenarios and worst case scenarios and go from there.

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is it official that GPU mining is guaranteed to be irrelevant in 2 to 3 years? on: August 14, 2019, 05:57:37 PM
I have been reading articles that when Etherium 2.0 is released in 2020 you will not be able to mine Etherium with GPU miners. Is this a definite thing or is it still just up in the air?
If we will no longer be able to mine Etherium does this officially make GPU miners irrelevant? Or is it still worth building them for @ home solutions to mine other coins and possibly new coins that could be profitable?

I currently have an 8 RX580 rig that can't really mine anything profitable except for Etherium. (not sure if this rig will be useless in 2020 or not).

I am looking to build another rig with 8 GTX 1070ti cards that will give me more flexibility to mine other algorithms.

Would it be foolish to buy 8 brand new GTX 1070ti cards at $479.99 a pop and build a $5000 rig with the future of GPU mining and where it stands? Even if I buy used the rig will cost about $3800. Just trying to see what peoples thoughts are on this. I am willing to gamble, but don't want to gamble if there is no chance GPU mining will be relevant within the next 2-3 years and we already know this.

If someone can give me an idea of what I am gambling on by continuing to expand my GPU miners in 2019 that would be great.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Ethermine - Current Hashrate constantly above and below Reported Hashrate on: August 13, 2019, 09:56:28 PM
I am using Phoenix Miner and using Ethermine for my pool.

There is a graph at the top that displays lines for the following:

Reported Hashrate: Green
Current Hashrate: Blue
Average Hashrate: Orange

The Reported Hashrate (Green) is a straight line all the way across the chart which is great since my rig is showing 256/7mhs in the Phoenix Miner command line.

I haven't tried using any pool besides Ethermine up until this point so I am wondering if it is normal for the Current Hashrate (which I am assuming is the actual hashrate as far as the pool is concerned) to fluctuate as much as it does I have seen some crazy results overtime.

The description for Effective Current Hashrate on the Ethermine site says: "It is calculated according to your submitted shares using a 60 minute window.".

For example:

The reported hashrate line is a steady 257.

I have seen the Current hash rate anywhere as high as 320 and as low as 220 at times. Is this something to be concerned about or is it normal pool behavior? If someone could provide some insight that would be great. Thanks!
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is an RX580 rig the best for mining Etherium at high electricity cost? on: August 03, 2019, 06:16:09 PM
Lunga Chung: Awesome, you basically confirmed what I was trying to figure out.

If interested in mining Etherium directly the RX570/RX580s are best since they are so cheap and run the Ethash algorithm just as good or better than the more expensive Nvidia cards. Downside to RX570/580 is that they aren't very profitable running other algorithms.

Maybe for this second rig I will go with 1070's since I am willing to spend a bit more money and don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket. Should I go for 1070 or 1070ti? Or whatever I find at a cheaper price?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is an RX580 rig the best for mining Etherium at high electricity cost? on: August 03, 2019, 05:11:35 PM
Lunga Chung: You are the savior on all of my posts. Thank you so much again for replying.

Maybe I will look into some used or new 570s and give a 570 rig a try.

Can you answer the question from my initial post... is there any point in exploring more expensive options with NVIDIA cards or better AMD cards? Or are my calculations correct where if mining Etherium directly the RX cards are best.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is an RX580 rig the best for mining Etherium at high electricity cost? on: August 03, 2019, 04:38:43 PM
Sorry forgot to mention. About 1050 watts, I still need to experiment with Undervolting slightly though.

Maybe I will go with used cards this time around..

I just got brand new RX580s off newegg for 179 each before $20 rebate which isn't terrible.

So are you saying just stick with the AMD RX rigs in general in 2019 and to help with ROI get used cards.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is an RX580 rig the best for mining Etherium at high electricity cost? on: August 03, 2019, 04:14:26 PM
I have a rig with, 8 RX580s mining Ethereum @ 257mh/s using Phoenix Miner. My electrical costs are .1333. So far the profits are looking like $30 a month which isn't terrible considering it is 2019.

I am very satisfied with this rig and would like to build a second rig and willing to spend more money this time around.

HOWEVER:
After doing some calculations with WhatToMine.com it doesn't look like there is any card that is more profitable than my current build.

It appears that the BEAST cards like the vegas use so much electricity and since my electricity is .1333, it makes it not worth paying for them and running them. (ROI seems rediculous).

I do see with some of the 1070's and 1070ti and 1080's and 1080ti that some of the ALT coins become really profitable (which is not the case with my RX580s), a lot more than Etherium, which is why it might be worth me going this path and investing in an Nvidia rig. However, if we are just talking Etherium the RX580s (micron memory) have been hard to beat with this calculator.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be great!!
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 4.5c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: August 03, 2019, 04:05:15 PM
What is a good way to calculate how much is actually getting taken in fees using Phoenix Miner.

I was thinking just ignore the "every 90 minute, mines for 35 seconds" aspect. That is just Phoenix Miner telling us how they obtain the 0.65%.

Then just do the following math:

I mined 1 ETH in x amount of days running Phoenix Miner steadily... Now just subtract whatever 0.65% of 1 ETH is from 1 ETH.

Sorry to sound so dumb, but if someone can tell me how to do some math on this that would be great.

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: When setting GPU Core and Memory voltage is it considered Max voltage or Exact on: August 03, 2019, 02:57:41 PM
Lunga Chung: One other question I had about AMT.

Do I still keep my cards with the modded timings from Polaris?

I've seen some YouTube Videos that say you can restore the cards original vbios since AMT takes care of on the fly memory timings / straps... I suppose this is a manual effort though right? So I probably should just keep my modded vbios.

UPDATE:
I kept my cards with the timings from Polaris one click and set the REF setting to 90 like you said and let it rip!!

Total mh/s is between 257-258 which is 2 more than Claymore!!!

It is rare, but early on in the command line I was seeing blue gpu lines with a really low mh/s because one to three cards were at 0.000 mh/s, but then they recovered.... Is this something that will keep happening? I haven't seen it happen since, but have only been monitoring for 10 minutes. If it does keep happening, do I leave it as is or would you recommend I feed these cards an extra mV?

I am currently running:
1170 / 850
2150 / 850

I am thinking upping to 2200 with Phoenix Miner will make a difference and possibly take me up another 2 mh/s, unlike with Claymore.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: When setting GPU Core and Memory voltage is it considered Max voltage or Exact on: August 02, 2019, 11:04:24 PM
Lunga Chung:  I apologize, but can you link me to the appropriate version of the AMD Memtweak tool. I was planning on using this one for AMDMemoryTweakXL which appears to be the latest, but it is in beta: https://github.com/Eliovp/AMDMemoryTweakXL/releases/tag/1.1.0.0

I am going to assume there aren't many specific config settings I will need, most of the config settings look just like the Claymore settings. I will look through the Readme and add anything I feel necessary.

The only thing that has me confused is the AMT.

Does the AMD Memtweak tool do the equivalent of what -rxboost does with Claymore? Adjust the memory timings/straps on the fly?
Does it replace the memory timings/straps that are set using the Polaris Bios Mod Editor on the fly? If so is modded bios even necessary for RX580 should I revert back to stock?

I will download and run with:
AMT with --REF 90

as you said.

Is this something that I run one time prior to starting phoenix miner or does it stay running with phoenix miner?
