1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NOTE]DNotes - Company Launch and Book for Small Business Owners in 2016... on: February 18, 2016, 05:29:26 AM
Happy Birthday everyone! :-D

I came to ask if we could review this
https://kerbalstuff.com/

it is/was a very popular website for downloading mods for the game kerbal space program which is extremely popular.
I was wondering if Dnotes could take it over as another investment? thanks team.

here is note from their website
"
Kerbal Stuff is shutting down

On June 1st 2014, I started working on Kerbal Stuff. 20 months have passed. 1,191 mods have been uploaded and 20,407 users registered with the site. Today, I am officially closing Kerbal Stuff. I'll explain how it came to this.

I built Kerbal Stuff after the announcement that KSP mods were to be officially moved to Curse. At the time, and still today, I did not feel that Curse would do right by the kommunity. I stepped up to build an alternative that would be much better than the mess Curse would provide. I built Kerbal Stuff to do right by the kommunity where Squad wouldn't.

I opened up a beta and got some modders on board, and Kerbal Stuff was very well received. It's fair to say that Kerbal Stuff decisively won the battle over Curse, providing hosting for nearly double the number of mods. It boils down to Kerbal Stuff simply being better at it. Kerbal Stuff had no ads for its entire lifetime, emailed users when their mods updated, and cared more about the modders and the players.

Undoubtedly Kerbal Stuff has had a direct impact on Squad's revenue - how many players must have hopped back into Kerbal Space Program after getting an email about their favorite mod receiving an update? In the past month, despite frequent downtime and slow page loads, Kerbal Stuff has served 1.2 million page views over 279 thousand sessions for over 84 thousand unique visitors.

As thanks, Squad continues to endorse Curse as the official source for KSP mods. They refuse to even mention Kerbal Stuff in public. During the early days, they even tried to have the name changed to omit the word "Kerbal", citing a trademark that didn't exist (they later registered the trademark).

Even setting Squad aside, running Kerbal Stuff is a largely thankless job. In fact, for the most part, I just hear complaints. Most people don't actually care about the effort put into it. Whenever I've taken the time to add features or make improvements or meet the requests of users, no one has shown any appreciation. I stopped volunteering my time and energy to extend this website, because my efforts were always met with silence or complaints.

I don't have expectations of anyone. I don't expect anyone to gush over how great any new features I implement are. I don't expect Squad to support Kerbal Stuff as the official source for mods. However, these factors have contributed to the apathy I have for the ongoing maintenance of Kerbal Stuff. I'm not willing to invest more of my time and energy into making Kerbal Stuff faster or more stable. I have been well aware of the slowness and instability, but I simply have no motivation to fix it.

I would like to thank those who have been supportive. Thanks to the volunteer admins for helping maintain the site. Thanks as well to the modders who chose to host their mods on Kerbal Stuff, and the users who chose to use it as their source for mods.

All of the mods hosted on Kerbal Stuff are available via this torrent. The source code for Kerbal Stuff will continue to be available on Github. I can be reached at sir@cmpwn.com.

- Drew "SirCmpwn" DeVault

Interesting stats from Google Analytics:

    4,948,349 total sessions
    993,550 total unique visitors
    19,083,579 total page views
    03:11 - average length of visit

Kerbal Stuff costs about $100/mo to operate. After upgrades to support the high traffic, it would be about $180/mo.

Fun fact: Squad keeps the numbers secret, but as of April 2015 the estimated copies sold of KSP on Steam were about a million.

Hi everyone:

My apologies I have been battling a horrible ear/tooth infection and been down 90% of the last 3 days but have enough energy to say hi and I am glad to see this 1 year mark.

My hope is that everyone is energized and ready for true value to be understood.

As I have pointed out to people over the year, BTC took over two years just to reach .85usd per BTC. and was and still is very erratic

I am proud to be part of DNotes, and I know our stable increasing value is the best. I have never been able to say anything about DNotes being a bubble since it has been stable and in every sense the anti bubble. Showing our assets first through cryptomoms.com and dnotesvault.com
and showing our long term view for building wealth and no "get rich quick schemes"

=) way to go on 1 year and many many more to come.

Hi everyone thank you for keeping us up to date, we are glad that DNotes is still doing well.
I apologize that I have been unable to be doing daily posts recently I have been busy with family matters.
My wife had to be hospitalized again for a week, and we are still fighting her depression. As you can imagine learning that Robin Williams lost his battle with that dark  monster has been a little scary to put it mildly.

Please support those with depression and always hold on to hope, there is a better day ahead and there is hope. Keep fighting.
Need help? In the U.S., call 1-800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/11/robin-williams-depression_n_5670256.html

"The suicide death of beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams shocked many of his fans. But those who knew him were aware of his ongoing struggle with depression.

According to his publicist, Williams, 63, was completing a 12-step program for drug abuse and had been battling severe depression.

"You're standing at a precipice and you look down, there's a voice and it's a little quiet voice that goes, 'Jump,'" Williams told Diane Sawyer during an interview about his struggle with addiction in 2006. "The same voice that goes, 'Just one.' … And the idea of 'just one' for someone who has no tolerance for it, that's not the possibility."

More recently, Williams talked about the overwhelming fear and anxiety that led him to seek solace in alcohol.

"Having depression and being in a suicidal state twists reality. It doesn't matter if someone has a wife or is well loved," Julie Cerel, a psychologist and board chair of American Association of Suicidology, told USA Today. "They get so consumed by the depression and by the feelings of not being worthy that they forget all the wonderful things in their lives."

Indeed, a major reason people with suicidal thoughts don't seek help is the belief that nothing could possibly make things better, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Ariane Sherine, a writer for The Guardian, recently spoke with The Huffington Post about her struggle.

“When I was suicidal and having suicidal ideations daily, hourly, I never imagined that I would be this happy and this stable again," said Sherine.

"Please don't give up," she told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani. "Life can get better ... It might involve a lot of trial and error, but it's possible to feel normal again, or almost normal again."

Though we can never know what took place in Williams' personal life, the actor's now-public struggles have many people thinking about the difficulties faced by those battling depression and addiction. That's especially important in light of recent evidence that high-profile suicides may inspire young people to take their own lives.

BY THE NUMBERS

Each year, 34,000 people commit suicide, about twice as many deaths as caused by homicide -- about one death per 15 minutes. By 2030, depression will outpace cancer, stroke, war and accidents as the world's leading cause of disability and death, according to the the World Health Organization.

While the elderly have the highest rate of suicide, anyone can be suicidal. Men, in general, are more likely to complete suicide, even though women are more likely to attempt it. About half of all suicides occur in men ages 25 to 65. Risk factors include overwhelming situations, such as aging, substance abuse, emotional trauma, unemployment or financial problems, according to the NIH.

Fully 90 percent of those who take their own lives struggle with an underlying mental health issue. According to the latest estimate, 13 percent of people will experience depression at some point in their lives. And about 15 percent of those with clinical depression will die by suicide.

THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE FACTOR

Substance abuse in combination with a preexisting mental health condition, such as depression or bipolar disorder, can be deadly, according to the website of Suicide Awareness Voices of Education, a suicide prevention organization. Often, someone suffering from mental illness will seek alcohol or drugs to relieve symptoms, but this can lead to impaired judgment and impulsive behavior.

Williams discussed the interplay of substance abuse and suicidal thoughts during a 2010 interview on the comedy podcast WTF with Mark Maron [at 52:00]. Describing a dark period of drinking alone in his hotel room two years earlier and briefly considering suicide, Williams said his "conscious brain" told his drunk brain to "put the suicide over here in 'discussable.' Let's leave it over here in the discussion area" until he was sober.

SIGNS OF TROUBLE

It can be difficult to determine when a depressed loved one has progressed to suicidal tendencies. The SAVE network recommends asking the following questions in a non-judgmental and non-confrontational manner:

Do you ever feel so badly that you think about suicide?
Do you have a plan to commit suicide or take your life?
Have you thought about when you would do it (today, tomorrow, next week)?
Have you thought about what method you would use?

Suicidal individuals may talk about feeling hopeless or guilty, pull away from loved ones and complete tasks that seem geared toward getting affairs in order, giving away possessions or otherwise arranging for family, according to the NIH.

OFFERING HELP

If you or anyone you know has threatened suicide or is displaying tendencies, it is important to seek immediate help.

For a loved one struggling with depression, there are ways to offer support. (Though it is essential to know that depression is not due to a failure of support on the family's part.)

When talking to someone suffering depression, "it's best not to say anything that is going to make them think that what they're dealing with is because of a lack of coping skills, personal weakness or a character flaw," Dr. Adam Kaplin, an associate professor in the departments of psychiatry and neurology at Johns Hopkins University, told The Huffington Post for a previous article. "The worst part of depression is that it narrows the field of vision into a very small tube so they can't see the options. A lot of [the goal of helping] is giving people a hope that things will get better.""

There are so many exciting things going on with Dnotes the last month or so, I am very impressed. Congratulations to the development team. I've been pretty under the radar the last wee while, I ended up swapping 3 out of my 4 university papers on the very final day (3 weeks into the course) for timetable reasons and have ended up with a 3 week handicap accordingly, combined with increased work Sad. It isn't fun having something due, while you have lots of material to cover that you have missed from previous weeks.

That said, I still check this forum most days, along with Poloniex exchange etc. I am quite pleased with what I see! Almost 1000 satoshi! lets get some of that lasting value yeh?

Right there with you been busy with taking care of family, family reunions and needing rest for having a minor 2 week stomach bug Sad

But I am too trying to check back as often as I can and keep spreading word. - I am super excited to see us at level we are at, and know truly the best is yet to come.

We have been trying to vote as much as possible as well on mintpal. Also glad to see we made it up to 28 over the last few days on coinwarz,
not sure why anyone would dump the 200k at this point but guess it does give others chance to buy up a good size share if they have 420 bucks (latest bitcoin value) I see slight irony however that figure makes it look like someone was high to dump that many DNotes :-D

Dyna,

What is the current plan for positioning Dnotes in the future? Can you discuss the long term plans and predictions? I know a lot of this has been covered but, I would like see where the Dnotes community leaders stand now.

Thx

I'm also curious on this. With so many new coins with quite a bit more innovative technology behind them coming out on a regular basis, I'm wondering what the plan is to keep DNotes relevant.

I would say that DNotes being stable without gimmicks, or pumping and dumping will be what keeps it relevant. And holding it's projects close and non speculating is also important. Just cause a newer coin than us comes out with some other technology does not mean we are doomed in any sense.

Example: you can release 100's of new comic books for example but it's normally the older 20-50 that have any quality behind them and are not just there to be there to make a buck, and that people know about and stay in popular culture.

Another example: There can be hundreds of new fancy candies out there but still again the more name recognition, long term sticking around and the candies that are easily affordable quality and no gimmicks are accepted by the majority of the population.  Yes some new comers join in but being part of the long term group is what keeps companies alive for generations.  again about 5-25 candies will be what a good chunk of population stick with. there might be more for one off tastes but not too many people buy Scorpion lolly pops everyday lol.

We need to stay fast and keep going, DNotes has plans we are working for and I am sure as soon as they are able to spill the beans they will. They also don't want false hope or peoples expectations to be too great for the short run. Does anyone remember all the Hub-bub over "Ginger" and "IT" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segway_PT#Early_history_and_pre-release_marketing
the media got a hold of a few keywords and suddenly spin started going with some people thinking it was going to be a flying car, or some jet pack thing..., and I remember when it came out to be a simple Gyroscope-two wheel vehicle there was lots of "WHAT THE HELL"?  and "THAT's what the thing is what a waste" coming from people.
The article above has a few examples of the stupid hype it created

"The speculation created an unexpected advance buzz about the product that was, at times, hyperbolic. Steve Jobs was quoted as saying that it was "as big a deal as the PC",[1] though later sources quoted him as saying when first introduced to the product that its design "sucked".[2] John Doerr speculated that it would be more important than the Internet.[1] Articles were written in major publications speculating on it being a Stirling engine.[3] South Park devoted an episode to making fun of the hype before the product was released."

In other words we don't want another segway style pr disaster. I am sure if things were more carefully handled it would have been a bit more well received. So lets keep supporting and knowing we have experience and knowledge on our side (Alan) and the team have had years of experience with how to get things done and how and when to announce an improvement to a product or business.

I have a few unconfirmed incoming transactions visible in the wallet from 02. June (5 days old).
Shall I wait more for getting them confirmed or do I need to do fix?

Version of wallet is:

"version" : 1000000,
"protocolversion" : 60001,
"walletversion" : 60000,

update:
"version" : 1010000,
"protocolversion" : 1010000,
"walletversion" : 60000,
"errors" : "WARNING: Displayed transactions may not be correct! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade."

get new version from git.

kz3d8fc7,

The error message is ok, it just means there are some wallets on the network that have not updated. It looks like your stuck updating the blockchain though. If you are on windows, close the wallet, go to
C:\Documents and Settings\WINDOWSUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\DNotes
And delete blk*.dat, then open the wallet and let it download the blockchain.

If you need help, send me an email contact@dnotescoin.com.

Just an idea since I had same issue and on windows 7 it fights you to get to that directory even with admin rights, I had to follow a Microsoft Tech bulletin on how to get rid of "Access denied" errors.
Can we move those files to the install directory of Dnotes to make repairs and backups easier for people since not everyone is able or willing to figure out how to get to protected areas of the harddrive on some operating systems:)

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys my block chain must be corrupt, as I woke up this morning to the DNotes wallet saying (Out of sync) and 203 blocks remaining and it has not moved. DNotes emailed me about this and I will follow ZPH42 advice on "try deleting the blk*.dat files ([user]/AppData/Roaming/DNotes) to have your wallet re-update the whole block chain. Also, I don't think altexplorer is using the updated daemon. For example, on their main DNotes page it says current block is 151,197 but it's actually block 151,084"
