1  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stop using the term "weak hands" on: October 05, 2014, 01:21:18 AM
they are losing money if they are holding btc.

You only lose when you sell for less than you paid.

Nobody has ever lost money by holding.

This post is so wrong it's not even funny.

All you need to do is look at Affymax inc. It's a company that started trading at $30.00 eight years ago. Now its shares are worth $0.14! It's basically worthless and will probably go bankrupt soon. Despite all that, you're telling me that the people who held that company's stocks didn't lose money because they didn't sell?

Read a finance book, man. You need it.

Bubble retrace from 1.1 to 0.55 ~=
Bubble retrace from 32 to 7 =~80%
Bubble retrace from 266 to 50 =~80%
If bubble retrace from 1160 is also ~80% that would mean prices of about 233.

WE ARE VERY NEAR THE BOTTOM.

If there's one thing we speculators should all agree about, it's that NOBODY knows the bottom.

Download blk0001.dat and blkindex.dat for the OLD microCoin wallet here:

http://www.file-upload.net/download-9570071/mrc.rar.html

Files are from "Windows wallet 2.1.1.3", with last updated blocks on September 22, 2014.

If download doesn't work with "Internet Explorer", please try other browsers Grin.

With kind regards,
randywald

Thanks a lot ;-)

My Wallet is fine again ^^

I downloaded the files, put them on the folder, and now I'm getting an error.
Whenever I open the old MCR wallet, I get an error message that says the following: A fatal error has occured. microCoin can no longer continue safely and will quit. EXCEPTION: St13runtime_error. CD(): can't open database file blkindex.dat, error 22
C:\Users\Desktop\Microcoin Wallet\microCoin.exe in Runaway exception.

Can someone help me please? My microcoin wallet is out of sync and has been for a long time. What are ways to fix this? I can't send my coins to Alcurex since my wallet is out of sync.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] microCoin MRC - alcurEX - Scrypt-Jane - nFactor on: September 23, 2014, 08:02:18 AM
What happens if you don't send your old coins to alcurex and just run the new MRC2 wallet?
Because I didn't do that and now I only have 150k coins instead of 15m.

Hey everybody. I seem to have a problem with my wallet. I upgraded to the latest version (1.Cool and when I opened it, I saw that I zero coins. I have 350k mintcoins and I don't know what happened to them. Anyone know the solution to this? Thank you very much.
Which version did you upgrade from, 1.6 or 1.7? First backup your wallet.dat just in case.

Please open debug console (Help -> Debug Window -> Console), and run "checkwallet" to see what it returns. It may be related to that if your previous wallet was on a wrong fork. If it reports missing/extra coins, you can run "repairwallet" there and it will resync your wallet with the downloaded blockchain.

I upgraded from 1.5 to 1.8. I'm back to 1.5 again because i was hoping that I'd get my coins back if I returned to the old version. I ran "checkwallet" and got this response: {
"wallet check passed" : true
}. Kinda sucks that I lost all my coins for some unknown reason >.<

1.5 and 1.6 are following a wrong chain. 1.7 update was mandatory.

Now, you have a few options;

If you received your coins while on 1.5 ; the transaction should be confirmed on both chains. So your coins should still be available. To be sure you can check your address with the block explorer. But; if the person that sent you the coins was also on the wrong chain, and his transaction contained invalid coins, then that transaction was not included in the main chain, because the main chain would reject it as it is invalid in the first place. You should contact your payer, and request he updates his client, and pays you again. Because the coins were not sent in the first place (Even if he's using old client that follows a wrong chain; when he switches to the new version, he will see that the transaction was not accepted and his coins are still in his wallet)

If your received coins are there, but your minted coins are lost : This is normal as your client announced the transactions to the wrong chain. But your coinage is not lost in this case (because your stake was just denied, nothing changes in your accounts). Just wait until it creates coinstake again, and you will receive the same amount.

Welp. I don't have any of my coins anymore. Even at 1.5 I don't have the same address as before. I lost all my transaction history too. I have 0 coins now  Sad I only got my coins from mintpal and poloniex. I don't know if they'll give me coins again. Sigh. Such misfortune.

It really sounds like your wallet.dat file got deleted or overwritten.  You did back up before you upgraded your wallet right? I sure hope so.... BACKUP ALWAYS!!!
Restore the backed up wallet.dat to C:\Users\"YOURUSERNAME"\AppData\Roaming\MintCoin\

If you don't have the same address it means that the wallet.dat file is not the same one you sent the coins to. IMHO.

That's exactly what happened. Once I upgraded to 1.8 my previous wallet.dat file was overwritten for some reason. Right before I upgraded I had my coins... I have no idea what could have caused this. I've upgraded before and this never happened. I didn't back up my wallet, unfortunately. That's my fault.

sorry to hear about this. whats your Mintcoin address?

Yes, I as well am sorry to hear about this. Last night someone from who knows where just uped and sent me 4000 Mintcoins, PM me your wallet address and i will add those Mint to some more I have and send them to you to get you going again. It's kind of frowned on to post wallet addresses in posts on [Suspicious link removed]o a PM is best.

Thanks. I'd pm you my new address but I can't even get that now. When I open my wallet, I get an "error opening blkindex.dat" message. I swear, upgrading to 1.8 was a very very bad idea.

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What advantage does a consumer have for using bitcoin vs fiat? on: April 11, 2014, 01:15:44 AM
I can't think of much really. I suppose you can use it when you want to buy illegal goods online?

Travelling internationally doesn't really matter much to me. When I go to other countries, I can pay easily with my debit card. When I shop online, I use paypal.

I think Bitcoin's selling point is the fact that it's decentralized and "anonymous." Though when it comes down to it, how many people actually care about those features? At this point, I think more people are in it for the speculation and making quick profits rather than belief in the protocol.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Buffett's wrong on bitcoin: Legg Mason's Miller on: April 11, 2014, 12:58:29 AM
Warren Buffet is so heavily invested in paper money. His big plays in paper currency have been well documented in the past so it comes to no suprise he would take issue with Bitcoin.

Warren Buffet has said plenty of times that he thinks cash is a TERRIBLE investment. He's said many times that he'd rather own a good business and a bunch of properties than have a large pile of cash.

one way this coin can be saved is making it a strong POS coin imo... more people would buy if they new their stash could generate them more coinage. More incentive not to dump

I suppose that could work. It worked for mintcoin so I don't see why it won't work for microcoin. Though it would also help if there was a place where we could spend our microcoins... A currency is supposed to circulate. With microcoin, everyone is just hoarding because we can't really do much with our coins. Tough times...

Maybe we can do something to raise awareness about this coin? If we've invested in microcoin, then we should try to do something to raise awareness. I honestly think that the future for microcoin is grim...but that's only if we don't do anything about it. We can't just wait for the devs to magically do something to increase awareness about MRC.

Perhaps we can start off by marketing this coin? Make it appealing? In order to succeed, microcoin must offer something that other coins don't. Dogecoin, despite being a normal litecoin clone, managed to increase its value and popularity because of good marketing. People just love that Shiba Inu. The doge community always think of ideas to make dogecoin more popular. I suggest we start doing the same.

Perhaps we can start a fundraiser? Make a reddit tip bot? We need to do something!

Can someone convince me how this coin will possibly succeed? Every day that passes by, the more I realize how grim this coin's future is. The MRC community isn't so active, there are ZERO promotions, and all the hopes pin on an exchange. Answer me this: How can an exchange make MRC popular? There will be plenty of coins there. MRC will just be one of those coins...

EDIT: How do you guys plan to promote this coin? Can you tell us how at least?

Have we considered swapping algorithms to X11, SHA 3 or Scrypt-N? Not necessarily something we have to do, but being open to it to protect against ASIC miners may be a selling point. Look at Bitcoin Scrypt. They've gone up 800% maybe even more since coming public about having a community that votes on the algorithm when it comes to preventing ASIC miners and staying decentralized mining wise

PS: My research paper on what gives Cryptos value should be done by the beginning of April

I'm wondering why would it be such a bad thing if a lot of people would start mining digibyte with ASIC miners? Wouldn't it just raise the difficulty, which then would mean that coins would be worth more? Or if the value wouldn't go up wouldn't they just move on to another currency? Ofcourse mining digibytes with a gpu would become more or less useless, but would that be bad considering that new digibytes wouldn't be generated by anyone who owns a mining software? Or do you think the problem would be the same as with multipools, switching currency and dumping on exchange? However isn't that already covered by digishield?

Honestly I have no idea what would happen, so could someone maybe explain why it would be bad. Other than that the average mining gpu owner couldn't mine digibyte anymore? (Who would still benefit if he already holds digibyte if the price goes up)

According to my knowledge, people don't like ASICS because it centralizes the mining power. When scrypt ASICS arrive, those who have it will be the ones that will mine most of the coins. Cryptos are supposed to be decentralized. ASICS go against that.

Is anyone else experiencing a problem w/ the wallet? I'm running v1.1.1.0 and my wallet isn't syncing. I'm connected to the MRC network so idk what's wrong. Help me please.
What is version number if you open -Help-About microCoin- window?

microCoin V 1.1.1.1

It's now in-sync. It seems like the wallet just took much longer than usual to sync.

Reddcoin's purpose is to be the social media currency right? My question is this: what if another coin comes out ahead of the pack and goes mainstream. Would people be able to use that coin and tip with it instead of Redd?
