1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really still decentralized?? on: January 06, 2020, 12:56:48 PM
Mining naturally centralizes due to the costs (hardware, electricity) varying across regions, but UASF has shown that miners do not get to dictate what Bitcoin is. I can still run a full node on a small device like a Raspberry Pi from my home, validate my own transaction set and make censorship resistant payments with confidence that the chain won't be rolled back.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Earning Interest with Bitcoin? on: January 06, 2020, 12:48:52 PM
Bitfinex margin funding has been good to me. I have also tried Blockfi but I withdrew my money when I read that they subsidize the interest rates; indicating to me that the business model is unsustainable at the rates they currently offer (around 6%)
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you earn Bitcoin with the Lightning Network? on: January 02, 2020, 07:12:37 PM
You will not earn much. A friend operates a large channel and routes many transactions but he still earns less then €5 monthly from it
4  Other / Off-topic / Re: Crypto Resolutions 2020 on: January 02, 2020, 07:02:51 PM
I want to move away from custodial solutions like exchanges and hold more of my crypto myself
5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are there any trading chat rooms? on: January 02, 2020, 06:55:27 PM
I hang out in some Telegram chat rooms. My trading strategies are entirely my own but it's nice to have a place to chat and discuss market activity as it happens.
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you define a good exchange? on: January 01, 2020, 04:24:56 PM
Not mentioned in most posts, but arguably the most important feature: top-tier security for user deposits and company holdings. Multi-factor authentication support with support for SMS (flawed, but better than nothing in most cases), security devices (yubikey, etc), and OTP applications like Google Authenticator or Norton VIP Access. Additionally, I like how some exchanges delay withdrawals after certain account events. For instance, if a password is changed, you can't withdrawal for 3 days, or if you're signed in from a new IP maybe there is a delay. This helps if your account is hacked, you can notify the support team ahead of time and they can freeze the deposit.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: ECB President: There is clearly a demand out there that we have to respond to on: January 01, 2020, 04:16:49 PM
Government issued digital assets are a much worse version of the traditional banking system. I would assume citizens will be issued specific wallet addresses like how Stellar works, in which case the personal wealth of all citizens will become known once a transaction tied to an identity happens (e,g, you pay your utility bill and the clerk looks up the wallet address you paid from; your wealth has now been doxed). Gov are unlikely to have the capacity to develop a system leveraging confidential transactions.
8  Economy / Economics / Re: You want to get rich, don’t pay taxes, don’t get married, don’t use bank, and... on: January 01, 2020, 04:10:41 PM
Don't pay taxes : or maybe you can go to a country with low taxes but if you start from nothing it's not that easy

Don't get married : or make a contract to say your money is your money and her/his money is her/his money

Don't use bank : if you can use crypto in your country, no point of using banks I guess ?
in fact, I felt that everything he mentioned had nothing to do with getting rich. have you ever seen the richest person in the world not married? or not paying taxes? or don't use a bank? I think they are all people who obey the rules, even among them there are those who have more than 1 wife and more than 1 bank account. everything he mentioned would be of no use if he didn't work.

Yes, lmao. The OP is a doofus. The way to get rich is to produce income greater than your expenses, save and invest to grow your money. The banking system may suck, but being unbanked is a far worse situation to be in because it disallows access to many opportunities. The stock market may be overvalued, but you can invest in private businesses or invest in yourself and your own business ideas. Taxation is theft, but being locked in a cage for tax evasion is, again, a far worse situation to be in than giving up a few thousand dollars per year. Getting married is fine, just use your diligence in choosing a partner and if you're still unsure, get a pre-nuptial agreement to protect your assets.
