1  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Considering hosting miners for others, what kWh rate would generate interest? on: May 23, 2020, 09:03:22 PM
Hey Hard Facts, thanks for your continuous support, trying to save me from myself!  Just wondering if you have ever contributed anything positive to this forum?

Must be hard always tearing everyone down.  Instead, try helping people up, supporting them and offering positive comments. This is how I live! It feels great! Best of luck.
2  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Considering hosting miners for others, what kWh rate would generate interest? on: May 23, 2020, 06:55:54 PM
We are in the process of building low cost natural gas generated power. We have access to very cheap natural gas. We can build out the power faster than we can buy our own mining rigs due to lack of capital.

We are looking to see if there is any interest in having us host your mining rigs.  What kWh power prices should generate interest?

Thinking there are mining rigs that just got shut down post having due to poor rates of return. Please read through my other posts to learn more about my ideas. Don't get hung up on the $.05 kWh rates listed on those posts, our generated costs are well below that.

We are looking at setting containers of some sort to hold the mining units (I like them called 'gears'!) along with electric generators, at natural gas wells and other interconnect locations. I call these mining farms, where most people vision much larger factory sized farms.

We hosted a few rigs at our existing little mining farm and gotten taken advantage of. We are smarter now I think. What concerns should we be aware of hosting others rigs? What power costs are attractive. We are interested in both parties making/saving money here.

No, I'm not interested in hosting your S9's, but I will be hosting a whole bunch of mine.
3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need help/ideas on high speed internet for mining farm in remote areas on: May 23, 2020, 02:02:13 AM
I like this last idea. I'm going to try to test it this weekend with some S9's. I snagged a RV-50 cell data modem yesterday from a site where it was not being used. Its one of the few out of hundreds we use not on a private network. I'll post the results.

We have dozens of gas sites we want to look at for these small farms. High speed internet is the biggest hold up.

Thanks for all the ideas, keep them coming!!

There are many locations we are looking at. Best one with lowest price gas is about 300 mcf per day. Problem here is lack of high speed internet.

When I looked really hard, but didn't follow through with this plan, about 2 years ago,  no one was interested unless I could build out at least 300 mcf per day. Around 1MW. Lacked the capital at that time.

Thanks for all the great comments! I have posted this over in the mining section with a bit more info. Just a little more here. I'm not new to mining, have had a very small mining farm for about four years. GPU's for ETH, migrated to ASIC, BTH. Just shut down the last of the S9's.

Been in the oil and gas business for about forty years, small business owner, engineer, professional, jack of all trades.

Looked very hard two years ago at mining with natural gas generators. ROI looked great. Oil and gas business was going great, my gas service company also going great. Did not have time to devote to developing this idea.

Fast forward two years, things are slow with my gas service company. Things for the gas and oil companies I work for are not going well. Time to dust off the plans grow the mining business.

Thanks again for all the comments, many of them are very helpful! I will continue this topic over in the mining section.

Thanks guys, three good pieces of advice! A little more background. I'm new to the forum, not new to mining. Been mining only four years, got into it early enough to get the crypto fever. Started with GPU rigs, ETH, migrated to S9's, BTC. Sold most of the S9's, just shut down the last few, tired of the noise and heat. Stopped driving through the fast food for breakfast once a week, breaking even now.

Anyways price per kWh for gen set is hard to nail down. I took price for gen set + cost to ship, first service, truck to site and set up. Then added $3600 for oil changes, and $3000 for other maintenance for the year. Then added $12,000 for shipping container and build out, everything between gen set and miner.

Add this all up, de-rate the gen set capacity 20% for power factor. Divide the total gen set and build out costs by the total kWh in a year. That's gen set cost. Calculate fuel costs, add to the gen costs, still below the $.05 kWh. All this with thought gen set needs overhaul at the end of 1 year.

Total costs for second and third year still lower yet, after new engine. All other costs paid for.

Big problem is the internet. The locations I get cheapest gas are very remote. See my other post seeking help with internet.

The cheap gas available varies for each location. Runs from single 200kw gen set to about 1 MW at a single location.  Passed all this by fellow engineer/good friend in the gas business, says he can come up with same low price gas for 100MW. I told him to slow down.

I think nat gas gen sets is the way to go for all US based crypro mining going forward.  Thanks again for the comments, keep them coming.

Hello, I'm new to this forum, third post. Actually I posted this in the general discussions, was told to post this here. I work in the oil and gas industry and have access to very low cost natural gas. I am looking at running used continuous rated gas generators to produce power to run mining farms.

My calculations show well under $.05 kWh. Gas is in remote locations. Looking for best ideas on how to support mining and make some money. I plan on running my farm, operating farm for associated producer, considering hosting, just providing the power to someone. Other Ideas? Located in central upstate New York, and Northwest Penn. USA Thanks.

Hello, I'm new to the forum, second post. I'm looking at developing some really low cost power running natural gas gen sets. Biggest obstacle is high speed internet service.  Regular cable internet is not available.  Is anyone using any kind of satellite or cell phone services to run a mining center?  I will also looking at point to point radio. Looking for ideas. Was told by large mining company they tried sats, down time killed profits. Most of the oil and gas facilities where the cheap gas is, are very remote, little or no cell service. Help!
