1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The One Biggest Lesson you've learnt from Bitcoins Investment on: June 23, 2020, 11:02:40 AM
Anybody who has already said "Do your own research" has hit the mail on the head. Moreover, dont pay to much attention to Twitter noise. A few people who I introduced to Bitcoin soon went down the altcoin rabbithole listening to other (very convincing) newbies and scammers about the next 100x coin. They spent what Bitcoin they had on them, and needless to say, every one of them now wishes they had just HODL'd.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Advantages of Bitcoin Recognized by Land Rover on: June 23, 2020, 10:57:22 AM

jaguar Land Rover have a dedicated Distributed Ledger Technology team working on projects such as rewarding drivers with crypto for reporting road safety and environmental issues so its not too surprising they would mention Bitcoin in their ad. Its not much but it its a step in the right direction.

4  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin gambling contest, giveaways, promotions, freerolls , freespins, freebets on: June 04, 2020, 10:52:18 AM

Congrats on breaking 1000 subs. Always very interested to hear about new slot games, promotions and which altcoins are accepted where.

Very nice layout. Are the live baccarat tables down due to Covid?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ordered "Simple & Elegant Wallet" cards from Bobby Lee - Ballet on: June 03, 2020, 02:40:09 PM
I got one of these for free after attending an event in Shanghai where Bobby spoke.

People mentioned at the time about security issues with pre-rendered private keys, which were valid complaints that I hope have since been addressed by the company. I will say that it is beautifully made and would make a very nice way to gift someone a modest amount Bitcoin if security fears have been negated.
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency crime in Netherlands. on: June 03, 2020, 02:07:08 PM
Very impressed with the authorities who were savvy enough to catch them. There is a lot of good advice being shared in these answers about how to avoid this happening but we are probably preaching to the choir on this board.

One thing crypto badly needs is more secure, user-friendly apps that make it VERY difficult for scammers to pull this type of thing off. As a former Network Administrator I can confidently say that you cant educate all users to the point of being smart enough to not fall for tricks like this, you have to remove the possibility that they can happen at all, especially when it comes to online finance.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Small Investors are losing Bitcoin by Investing in Altcoins? on: June 03, 2020, 01:43:30 PM
I think "investing" in altcoins and losing money is a rite of passage for most people who have just got into crypto. Its understandable why they would do this. There are plenty of high follower Twitter accounts and such that are shilling their hearts out on projects that they know well are crap. Exploiting peoples greed with talk of 100x's is not that hard. Not to mention the Telegram groups where delusional investors are plugging their shitcoin as the next big thing.

If a crypto user hangs around long enough they will see that the Bitcoin is the value investment. Hopefully they'll also pick a couple of other projects that they  have done their research on, and get involved in them as an investor or contributor.

9  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Margin trading. Where to start? on: June 02, 2020, 02:02:41 PM

I haven't ever tried margin trading with crypto but from experience with Forex I strongly suggest you get yourself a Demo account somewhere and get some practice in with fake money. Its ridiculously easy to get liquidated with margin trading.

If you can keep your head above water for a few weeks actively trading with a demo acount...then you  might just be be ready cautiously try the real thing. Good luck.
10  Economy / Economics / Re: How can a small shop survive in Manhattan,NY with a rent of 5k per month ? on: June 02, 2020, 01:48:52 PM

Its pretty simple. They wouldn't survive if they didn't have the customers. Also, $5 is very much on the low side for a food purchase in N as is $5000 rent for that matter. Places that arent busy go under regularly. If you could see a time lapse of also any set of business units in any major city over the course of 20 or 30 years you would see just how common that is.
11  Economy / Economics / Re: Foreigners being airlifted by countries but government is just ying to get money on: June 02, 2020, 12:49:34 PM

$350 was a good deal! I have heard of many multiples of that. The government isn't making any real money off that and they are allocating valuable organizational resources towards it. While it does seem to be a governmental obligation to relocate those who are stranded abroad, I have seen a number of cases where governmental warning were ignored until it was too late and then some irresponsible travelers started with the "woe is me! mayday!" campaigns on social media. Then governments had to spend ludicrous amounts of money to collect these people from their backpacking holidays.

I personally was abroad when the outbreak started, watched how things were going down on the media, made a judgement call and took a timely flight home. I don't see anyone else couldn't have done the same thing.
12  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto's economic value is surprisingly low :'( on: June 02, 2020, 12:20:33 PM

Depending on one's perspective, huge progress has been made. Moving from practically being a novelty (desktop mining and buying a pizza for 10,000BTC) to becoming 0.4% of the world's money in approximately a decade is pretty amazing. Bitcoin and blockchain are household names now and there are a lot of great projects are going on with some of the most innovative minds in computer science  putting their weight behind them.

There is much more to come. Imagine what we'll see 10 years from now.

13  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcasino.io — 💜Tips for choosing different games 💜 on: June 02, 2020, 12:02:42 PM

Appreciate the article. I've been hearing that casino play is way up since the Covid pandemic as people are spending more time than ever online, and hoping to get lucky and win some money while business is slow. Have you guys at bitcasino.io noticed a big uptick in new playership?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: One mistake and l have lost all bitcoin on: June 02, 2020, 11:52:06 AM
Your honestly in sharing is commendable. If you were to survey most long term crypto users they would have a similar tale of woe, though hopefully for a smaller amount that you lost. For what its worth, I know numerous people who have lost much, much more.

Look for the positive in this. It was a learning experience, which could end up being more valuable over time than the loss itself.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Make sure to avoid wasting BTC for too high fees – step by step guide (Electrum) on: May 31, 2020, 12:09:49 PM

This is a great guide. A friend of mine who just started using Bitcoin asked me this very question yesterday and I saw this before I got around to writing a guide. Kudos!!
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New ransomware hits Italy via fake Covid-19 map on: May 31, 2020, 12:03:11 PM

How low can these guys sink to target frontline workers and the elderly? I expect this to become more widespread very soon as contact tracing apps are being rolled out all across Europe. Hopefully national media outlet will be issuing warnings.
17  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which company's phone and laptop do you use? on: May 31, 2020, 11:56:59 AM

Dell Inspiron laptop and Xiaomi phone since I lost my iPhone a few weeks back. Love the Dell, hate the Xiaomi. The hardware is good but the MIUI Android (Chinese ROM) is horrible.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: What’s the opinion about Crypto-game investment? on: May 31, 2020, 11:27:44 AM
Certainly a good investment. The demographic of games players is, for the most part, the same tech-oriented types who are willing and eager to utilize blockchain. As with all investment, choose wisely.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Hackers Withdrew $ 25 Million on: May 31, 2020, 11:21:14 AM

Hadn't heard that this had be returned, excellent news. Unfortunately vulnerabilities like this are still commonplace and could spell potential disaster to otherwise sound projects. Developer should be prioritizing security at every step.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Reasons Why I Have Lost 50% Of Bitcoin on: May 30, 2020, 01:43:30 PM
Believing the hype about tons of altcoins, plus "trading" without having any clue what they're doing (no stop loss?!) are the two biggest "taxes" on newbies entering this space, and in investing in general.

Hopefully you will have learned your lesson and move accordingly.

If you have friends entering the space, share your experience. Each one, teach one.
