4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is a normal stale share rate? on: June 24, 2011, 06:55:48 PM
I've noticed I'm fluctuating between 3-7% stale shares when mining through my pool.

What is a "normal" stale share rate? I figure if enough of us post, we'll be able to figure out what other people are getting and thus define "normal."

Please post your stale share % and your mining pool (if applicable). Thanks! Smiley

I'll start:

~5%
btcguild

are you overclocking too high? "over" overclocking can generate bad hashes and thus drive up the invalid/stale percentages

In GuiMiner....

Accept ### (#)   Stale ## (#)

What exactly is the number inside the parentheses mean?

The number which have occured in the last hour.

Thanks!

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Javascript website embed - Having thousands of visitors online right now on: June 23, 2011, 04:37:17 PM
But you do realize that people will quickly stop using your website when it's sucking 100% load out of their CPUs?

My Intel E8400 Core2Duo yields 800 kHash/s = 0,8 MHash/s when under 100% load at both cores.

Given that not everyone will have such a processor (and/or be using netbooks, smartphones, tabs etc), that quite a bit FireFox-Users have No-Script enabled by default and that the creators of this JAVA app didn't code it that way so that the App locks down the User's CPU at 100% load, 50MHash/s sounds pretty reasonable in my opinion.

Sorry.

E8400 should pull 6-9 Mhash if using the ufasoft SSE2 CPU miner 6 if at default 3ghz... closer to 9 if overclock to 4ghz

I have this setup so i'm speaking from actual expereince, if you are also GPU mining using polcbm or phoenix, use the "-g no" to prevent ufasoft from doing GPU mining and fighting with the other GPU miner

I think the jscript miner need to be improve with ufasoft SSE2 mining code, also ALOT of people are still using VERY old CPU for web browsing... heck I'm typing this on a slow P4 right now

Tycho

any chance of adding standard port like 8080 to allow those of us behind a firewall that block all none standard port to use your pool?

Tycho, is there any possibility that an alternative port could be setup for unfortunately for me, my best PC is behind a firewall that blocks most communication to non-standard ports. :/

+1

I got a couple PC behind a firewall that block non-standard ports too, would be great if you can use other standard port like 8080 also

Mh/J is how many Mega Hash per Joule of electricity.... basically how energy efficient the GPU is, you can have ultra fast GPU, but crazy power hungry electricty wise, some people who live in area with high electricity need to take that cost into account to see if its profitable.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone knows where can i get a 6990 graphic card? on: June 22, 2011, 12:15:51 AM
I'm looking to buy an "Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 6990 (GV-R699D5-4GD-B) 4096MB PCIe x16 Gen 2.1 Eyefinity 6 Edition"
and i can't find anywhere to buy from (OUT OF STOCK).
Perhaps I should go and buy the ATI Radeon HD 5970? Would that give me the same (+/-) Mhash/sec?
+
I'm new to builing a computer - DIY and I was wondering if an "ASUS Socket AM3/AMD 890FX/CrossFireX/SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0/A and GbE/ATX Motherboard Crosshair IV Formula" motherboard is compatible for the 6990 graphic card (I don't really understand the differences between PCI-Express 2.1 x16 And PCI--Express 2.0....etc.).
http://www.amazon.com/CrossFireX-Motherboard-Crosshair-IV-Formula/dp/B003G40Z66/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1308690889&sr=1-7

tell me what you think? If not compatible so please refer me to any other motherboard that you recommand (for x3 6990's graphic cards crossfire).

thanks

Do you need the Eyefinity 6?
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining with an integrated Intel video card on: June 21, 2011, 10:48:05 PM
Hi,

For me I have a Nvidia GeForce 8500 gt and get a whopping 2.2 Mhash/s ! I know crazy fast...

So if you have integrated video I would expect it to be about the same or less.

Let us know.

seem intel HD3000/HD2000 approach is similar to Nvidia... HD3000 have 12 EU/cores and HD2000 have 6 EU/cores

I would expect 3-6mhash at most when the OpenCL driver to come out

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much is a mining rig worth? on: June 21, 2011, 09:49:09 PM
My question was: if you only use a computer for mining, and the profits from mining are decreasing all the time, how do you even know that you will be able to recover what you paid for it. It's a risky proposition. Which makes all the rig buying seem a little reckless, no?

Someone with a rig, tell me what the numbers are.

at this point it seem most new comer already missed the boat on the easy money...

its a function of how fast you can mine for BTC and the market exchange rate.... missed the boat on the $30/BTC rate, and the difficulty have gone up a few times so its much slower to generate coins now.

Is it worth it to mine with what you already have? probably yes, is it worth it to go spend a boat load of cash and build a dedicated mining rig? personally I say no.

If you use a credit card to buy your mining rigs, basically you get a 2 month free loan (unless you have 0% apr) to recoup the cost before you have to outlay any cash.  Maybe worth it to upgrade an existing PC, if you can get the 5830 for $110 that would fit under this model @ $15/BTC current rate.

It is definitely no the most powerful on the market, and from what I've found, it isn't close to the top of the leaderboard for MH/sec per $.
I know about http://bitminer.info/
Is that where you're getting your leaderboard?  I would really like to see such a chart.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

you can also see the setting people use to get a particular Mhash rate
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why won't my 6950 overclock past ~900 mhz core? on: June 21, 2011, 09:26:01 PM
try pointing more fans at the GPU, set the GPU fan to manual @ 100%, and if the case is closed, open it up and see if that help.  Then at least you would know if its overheating problem or not

the OP said most powerful "SINGLE SLOT" gpu

what temp...? does the card throttle down only when you are mining? or immediately after you try to set the >900mhz core?
