I don't really need this plugin, so I've lost interest. It's not worth the trouble to wrap my head around 20,000 lines of Javascript unless I were getting paid well for it.

This top might help generate awareness.

Consider the $300 a tuition payment in the School of Life.

Make scheduled local backups.
Make scheduled offsite backups.
Test backups.

On my Mac I use an external drive with Time Machine, which I've tested using a full restore, and I back up to Amazon S3 for $0.093 per GB using Arq as a front-end.

For a less permanent solution, one could get a stack of temporary tattoos made:

I only lost .3 or so BTC but it does go to show how important security is and how much AVG sucks.

Fixed that for you.

P.S. See if AVG has your wallet in quarantine.

I don't remember signing anywhere that my neighbor's mortgage was my problem.
Yeah, and in return, your neighbor helps you when you're in trouble. As I said, I don't see the problem.

I think you're being intellectually dishonest in your use of the word "help", which implies a voluntary offer of assistance. My money being confiscated by government force to be redistributed to those deemed more needy is not an act of compassion, but tyranny. Lest you dismiss me as a would-be hypocrite were I the one in need, let me assure you that this not so.

I have been unemployed for many months after being downsized from a company that I was with for six years. I have not and will not apply for unemployment benefits because I don't believe that my misfortune entitles me to the fruit of others' labor. I am able to rely on myself because I made good financial decisions for myself, having zero debt, excellent credit, and a good amount of savings at the time that I lost my job. I also have friends and family that I could turn to for *voluntary* assistance if I needed to do so.

The welfare state will destroy individual initiative and make us slaves to the government.

I now know what to say when people ask me what Bitcoin is backed by... it's backed by lunch at Meze Grill. har har Cheesy

Thanks for the warning. I will steer clear.

Don't forget offsite backups in case your house burns down or gets carried away to Oz by a tornado.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ALL of my bitcoins stolen (Around 60) . What the F*CK. on: June 27, 2011, 06:42:56 AM
I usually read the description whenever my Win 7 box wants to download updates, and it seems like lots of times I'll see a security update that says it patches a vulnerability that could "allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code" or something ominous like that, so if anything I'd bet that it was not staying up to date that screwed you over.

Atom, I tried to donate 0.02 to the address in your sig, 13RVBjpo3xLeDBkB2NM64N8sWK4f, but my client says that it's an invalid address. Do you know what's up with that?

Also I wanted toss out another idea. Maybe as your show gains a following you can entice some merchants to sponsor that week's show in exchange for a plug to their website and maybe a banner or something on bittalk.tv. Just an idea to bring in some revenue outside of donations if operating costs are an issue.

Looking forward to ep 2 Smiley
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Peter Schif's Radio Show with Bitcoin's Donald Norman(June 20/11) on: June 27, 2011, 01:28:39 AM
Donald seemed flustered and underprepared, at times failing to address the question that was asked. For example, at the very beginning when Peter asks how bitcoin works and what's been going on lately, Donald spends the first 30 seconds speculating on Satoshi's identity, then moves on to talking about his consultancy business, then says that bitcoin is underdeveloped and people don't know how to secure their computer from getting hacked, then finally starts to talk about the advantages of bitcoin without having first defined what it is. So to a person who had never heard of it, they'd still be pretty much in the dark halfway into the first segment.

I hope that people spend some time working on their advocacy message if they're going to be interviewed about bitcoin.

Unfortunately you're a little late on the transcription request Wink Fwaggle got in touch via email about an hour ago and I'm working with him now on it, but this will be a weekly gig so hit me next week.

ok. I'll check back next week to see if I can beat Fwaggle to the punch. Keep up the good work Smiley

I found a newer browser extention that is being actively developed: http://gpgauth.org/projects/gpgauth-chrome/
It's in the Beta stage and I'm trying to get it installed for testing. I'll report back my findings.

Edit: After a second look, it looks like all this project does is authenticate a user to a web site. I guess I'm back to looking at FireGPG code.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to verify the PGP signed message in the forum? on: June 26, 2011, 03:48:35 PM
I'm somewhat tempted to see if I can revitalize the FireGPG project. From what I read, one of the roadblocks is that it needs a feature for Inter-process Communication (IPC) in Firefox that is still under development. Aside from the convenience factor, I can imagine how this plugin would make it easier to set up a web of trust based on cryptographic keys that you could use on any forum to link back to a reputation site and people would know by your digital sig that you are who you say you are.

There's already a reputation system like this in bitcoin trading channels on IRC, but having something on the web and the tools to make it easy to use would be much better for everyday folk.

Good first show  *thumbs up*  Smiley
It would be fun if this evolved into a live stream with people listening in and participating on IRC and phoning in via Skype or whatever. Some day historians might be digging up these archives to listen in to how the Bitcoin Boom got started and survived it's early tribulations, so remember that when you report the news.

I call dibs on the transcription job for the first episode. I need to make some $B so I can afford to donate back to you guys for your efforts  Smiley

Thank for the link Atom. I'm feel a little better already :-]

I only have 0.03 BTC, but that's because I have $100 USD parked on TH waiting to see what happens when MtGox trading reopens. I should really get to sleep soon so I can wake up for that.

Are you guys using your viewer's computers for mining? If yes, you should disclose the fact at least.

Sorry about that lol, Atlas has been trying various things on the webpage - we're still figuring out ways to pay for this operation, and that is one of the options discussed but you're completely right it needs to be disclosed.
[...]
So on the subject of mining, what do you think about it?   It seems like its a higher risk of annoying people to me than any costs that could be recovered by mining with CPUs given the ever increasing difficulty, but on the other hand it requires no effort and little to no cost (maybe more electricity?) to the listener who is taking advantage of a "free" service.

I was listening to the podcast on my MacBook operating on BATTERY POWER, and I noticed the same thing as 3phase and got immediately suspicious. I am seriously offended because it's like my computer was hijacked to be part of a botnet, and I'm also upset because I liked what I had heard during the few minutes but I had to shut it down.

I have 0.03 bitcents to my name and I thought about tipping you guys 0.01, but not after this BS.

You'll have another shot at my bitcent when my indignation wears off if you turn that shit off.

You admit that people already "find what they want and use it". Why are you searching for some kind of "reward" when people are already getting what they want out of the WWW? Do you have an entitlement mentality?
