Seems like multibit does a similar thing with the reduction of the blockchain size. Isn't there a more efficient way of doing what multibit has already done?

I am thrilled to be here and looking forward to talking with some of you folks about bitcoins !
A little about myself:
I am from Central California and have been very interested in virtual currencies for a very long time now. I heard of this forum from a bitcoin meetup that I randomly happen to stumble upon near my local starbucks.
I was so intrigue by what some of those folks were saying that I purchased my first bitcoin that day !
