• Operating system and version and
• Wallet version

Further, did you try to update electrum?
If you have your mnemonic code (the 12 words), you are fine and can always recover your funds.

You might want to copy/backup your wallet file and upgrade electrum to the latest version. Then check whether there are still some issues.

If it is the most up-to-date version, open electrum via the command line and tell us any error message you encounter.

Does the app close when you submit the password/hit enter?

What version of electrum are you running? I don't know how you can show hidden folders on a mac but if it's like Linux then your information should be in a .electrum folder if you did a full install (potentially ~/.electrum but I'm not accustomed to mac.

And as mentioned below if you wrote down the 12 word random phrase then you can restore your wallet from that...
