1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto holds 980,000 Bitcoins.. does anyone know their addresses? on: May 06, 2024, 07:13:45 PM
Is it true that the wallets in which Satoshi mined to are known? So that if I would be Satoshi (and had the private key(s)), I could "proof" this, by moving BTC from Wallet A to any Wallet B. Correct? If so, how many of this "Satoshi-Wallets" can (more or less) certainly be allocated to Satoshi and what is their total value? Is there any statistics or website, which provides an overview?

@HCP:
Yes, thank you. Actually I already tried some of those programs (sorry, I could have mentioned that). But I didn't find so far a program which matches to my specific demand:

there is for example iMazing which is a cool program... but it doesn't seem possible that you load existing backups (respectively backups made with iTunes) INTO iManzing - its just possible with backups by iMazing itself.

further, there is the "Copy Trans Backup Extractor". There are a few programs like that. They are also able to find "iTunes Backups". However, CTBE and (as far as I see) any similar programs are LIMITED to basic information to extract like adresses, pictures, whatsapp-messenges and so on. But no one is able to "go into an app" and operate it as it is possible on the device/iPhone itself.

The idea with the "dummy"-iPhone is not so bad, respectively, I could maybe somehow try that (but I don't know anybody who has a iPhone X or/and would it give to me ;-). However, itself if I could try it like that, I still would have a problem, I think. As I wrote in my first posting: Also when I transferred the backup to my current iPhone the Jaxx-App was put on reset somehow :-/ So I don't know if that would be differently, if I transfer the backup on a "new" device.

Hi,
the status is still unchanged :-/

The "old" Wallet / JaxxApp is still on my Backup, and within, somewhere my Bitcoins / Private-Keys to it :-V
And this iPhone-Backup is stored on my PC-Drive.

Isn't there a program for something like a "virtual iPhone" where I can transfer this (unencrypted btw) Backup on to?

Regards

First of all thanks to the community for the quick attempts to help me out.

However, undoubtedly it is also a smart feature to create a seed and so on before you initially use the Wallet. But when I first downloaded / used Jaxx, this security feature wasn't obviously standard, so I didn't have to do that :-/
I didn't understand this part of your post. What do you mean that it wasn't standard? I am not sure how exactly Jaxx displays the seed, but you should have seen a copy of your 12 words seed sometimes during the wallet creation process. It was never displayed to you, or did you not write down a copy of it? Jaxx is a horrible wallet, security-wise, but I believe they still let you make a copy of your seed Huh
I am sorry if my explanation was insufficient. According to my BTC-Record it was Aug 2019 when I transferred the BTC to my Jaxx Wallet. And I strongly guess it wasn't very long before that, that I installed the App for the first time. And I am pretty sure that, unlike now, it was not the case that you were first asked to create a seed - You could start right away with the creation of the wallet and that was it. The "standard" to call you to write up a seed, must have been - according to my experience - established somewhen after Aug 2019. That's at least my strong guess.

So the answer in short is: It was never displayed to me, because I never knew and searched for it after I installed the App initially and transferred coins on it.

From time to time I had a look into the wallet and never saw any significant change. Also, since Aug 2019, there have of course been a lot of updates of the iOS and -most likely- the Jaxx-App as well. However, I never had a so deep look into the wallet, that I saw something like 'ah, you need to do a backup from your seed or private key'. I guess I thought the wallet was connected with my Apple-ID so I could restore it anywhere, also if my phone was stolen or lost or something just by using the latest backup on my harddrive or iCloud. With other apps it is working also like that (for example I wasn't even asked to long in to my twitter or LinkedIn App. It was a different story with my Banking-Apps -_-). But that wasn't obvious the case.

>>snip<<

First thing to always do before sending your Bitcoins to an address is to first make multiple backups of the wallet including copying the seed and keeping it in a very secure and safe location. Encrypting the wallet file a lone and leaving it in the device isn't enough as the you can easily lose the mobile device anytime.
Yes - lessons learned definitely for now.

Quote
I doubt whether you will have the wallet file in your backup, thou the wallet app itself could easily be restored. The other alternative would be not to install any app or copy any media into the phone and use a recovery software to first recovery all the deleted files and folders then locate the wallet file. But this is a long shot and might not be worth it.
If this is a serious option - what software would that be or is there anywhere a tutorial how to or something? As I said initially: I can't imagine that I am the first one with this specific problem.

Thank you and best regards

Hi there,

I guess I am not the first one with my current problem, but although I guess there is no way to find a solution, I would at least try to write it down here:

I also lost some BTC with my Jaxx-Wallet (fortunately just 0,01xxsomthing) and here is how it happend: I am using an iPhone X and there occurred a Problem with the automatic updating. Somehow it stopped at V13.something of iOS. So I needed to update it manually via iTunes on the current 14.2. But that was just possible by doing a reset to factory defaults/settings. However, before I saved of course a backup of my iPhone with the expectation that it is restored 1:1 as before.

But it didn't. All Music was lost and all Banking-Apps need to be new configurated, but that not of matter here. But what it is: Also the Jaxx Wallet was like I had it installed just the first time.

And this was surprising for me. I don't know when I used Jaxx the last time. The reason why I had 0,01xxx BTC on it was basically just IF I'd ever come in a situation to pay with BTC I had directly some with me (but so far I never have had the option ;-). However, undoubtedly it is also a smart feature to create a seed and so on before you initially use the Wallet. But when I first downloaded / used Jaxx, this security feature wasn't obviously standard, so I didn't have to do that :-/ And so far the Wallet went through every update without any problems. Admittedly, I don't know when I had a (deep) look into the wallet, but if it had come to my attention, that there was an option to write up the seed/private key, I would have done it for sure :-/

However, so here is my question: I have still my iPhone Backup, and I am asking if there isn't still my "old" version of Jaxx on it, with the mentioned 0,01xxx on it, respectively, if yes, is there a possibility to access it?

Is that somehow possible or are these coins most likely lost forever?

Thank you in advance for any help
