Which investment will outperform long-term?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Error message in Bitcoin core on: January 23, 2021, 01:31:16 PM
how do I determine the optimal change I should use when creating the transaction?
Calculate the fees that you require.
- Assuming Bech32 (bc1...) transaction
A typical bech32 transaction should be roughly 110 vbytes, assuming 1 input and 1 output. Add the size of your OP_return message as well, that'll be roughly 190vbytes, give or take. Your fees should not be below 190 satoshi, if you want a confirmation anytime soon you would probably be looking at ~ 2290vbytes , deduct the transaction fees from the inputs and you would be left with the change that you should have. If it's below 294 satoshis, you should probably just omit it completely.

That being said, please do not craft the raw transaction yourself if you're not familiar with what you're doing. If you want, using a utility like Coinb.in to craft it and validate using your Bitcoin Core client would probably be more suitable. If you're just looking to experiment with it, either use regtest or Testnet.

already figured it out, thanks.

Is one of your outputs is below 546 or 294 satoshis. If that's the case, you have to omit that output or use less funds as your fees.

how do I determine the optimal change I should use when creating the transaction?

Hello, I am following this guide https://medium.com/blockchainedu/how-to-write-stuff-on-the-blockchain-bdae1704f24d and everything works fine up until the last step, where I get the error "dust (code -26)" instead of the transaction ID.

What am I doing wrong?
5  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 10:51:20 PM
quick question: do transactions that have been waiting to be processed for a long time get some sort of preferential treatment?
6  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 10:19:35 PM
Once the network isnt clogged up then you would really be getting some confirmation soon. 26 sats/byte isnt something low for a transaction to be rejected. Check out mempool.space when you do tend to make a transaction and set out specific amount of fee depending on how fast you would like it for it to be confirmed. For now the only thing you can do is to wait or would do make out that rbf and raise up that fee.

yeah, will have to wait. is it taking so long because so many people are getting into bitcoin like in 2017 or why is the network so maxxed out right now?
7  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 10:06:12 PM
what the heck? the ETA just increased from 30 to 40 minutes on the mempool website? how does that happen?
8  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 09:47:24 PM
thanks for the explanations guys. according to the mempool website it should go through in 30 minutes Smiley
9  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 09:29:12 PM
i found a website that lists the time it takes for bitcoin transactions to go through depending on their fees: https://bitcoinfees.net/

however, on the blockchain.info block explorer the fees are given sat/B while the website lists the fees in sat/vB. can these be compared one to one or is there some conversion between those two units?
10  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 09:05:14 PM
good to hear. do you know what timeframe? hours, days?
11  Economy / Web Wallets / Bitcoin transaction from Blockchain.info wallet taking a looong time on: January 22, 2021, 08:56:35 PM
Hey guys, I made a Bitcoin transaction from my Blockchain.info wallet to a wallet created in Bitcoin Core but the transaction seems to be stuck.

I chose the "regular" fee option when sending the transaction from Blockchain.info, but it has been more almost 9 hours and not a single confirmation has happened.

Here is the transaction Id: 74a7cb0cbb221d9821a68b97cd06d49cc18810e2ca92c0545185688ba4d85392

Is there anything I can do? How long will it take? If it gets rejected, how long will it take to get the Bitcoins back to the original Blockchain.info wallet?

you guys obsessing over Bitcoin's exact amount of carbon emissions is hilarious.

we all know it's a lot when compared to other payment methods with similar transaction volumes to Bitcoin.

at the end of the day, who cares? carbon emissions/global warming are such big, vague issues that we will always put the blame on other people.
it's simply the most rational thing to do from a game theory perspective.

Trying to put focus only on Bitcoin on how much it do uses and do affect when it comes to carbon emissions? If we do look on the global scale of problems then
how about on putting up some attention about car industries? on how big they do really contribute into these emission talks? It seems like they do already
hadnt enough things to play on but rather on focusing on things of finding issues with Bitcoin. Just let it be and this isnt the problem that we
are just facing now.

this kind of confirms my argument. it's simply a non-issue because even if we acknowledge that it's a problem, there is nothing we could do about it, aside from shifting blame.

That's an awful lot of money/carbon going into the atmosphere.

The article says bitcoin wastes $76 per transaction confirmed.

https://www.fudzilla.com/news/52242-bitcoin-costs-the-world-25-million-daily

We have to accept the fact that a centralized system will always be more efficient than a decentralized system. Just think why democratic governments are so slow at implementing anything. BUT some things are too important to be centralized which obviously comes at a drawback.
What does it has to do with centralized and decentralized system?
It's about power consumption due to Bitcoin mining and transacting.
Crypto can not be centralised.

I am not saying we should do anything. Bitcoin is what it is.

I'm simply making the observation, that decentralized systems are less efficient than centralized systems.
Bitcoin's decentralized nature requires thousands of miners to compete instead of collaborating.
If Bitcoin were centralized there would be no need to compete for mining Bitcoin because all the verification of transactions and issuing of new coins would happen by one single "miner".
This leads to higher electricity costs, more hardware costs, slow transactions...thus being less efficient.

Why does the OP call the fund manager crazy, just because he says bitcoin is worthless shit? He's not crazy at all, in fact he's the exact opposite of crazy. He is one of the smartest men out there.

Let me tell you what pure crazy looks like ---- buying bitcoin at the peak after a large run up and see it crash hard. That is what crazy look like.

If it isn't clear by now that the title was blatantly exaggerated sarcasm, I chose that title because otherwise, it would just seem like I'm a hater that wants to spread FUD in a Bitcoin forum ;-)

that's why many claim Monero is the cryptocurrency that Bitcoin tried to be originally.

Monero provides better anonymity than bitcoin and that's why it is getting delisted from the exchanges and also for the same reason it won't ever get adopted by the masses. Another dead end.

true, the masses simply don't care about privacy, as can clearly be seen by the failed adoption of Linux/Firefox/etc...

says who ? i care about my privacy and who wouldnt ? that is why i am here and you guys are all here .
btc is still a private coin although not as private as monero but aside btc and monero we have other privacy coins that we love to use and firefox, linux , popular privacy brands did not fail.
there are users that uses them but people tends to go if what is more trendy and that is chrome , windows but by using both of these doesnt mean your privacy are now going to be expose but you can do some tweaks to keep it private .

Says the statistics. There are many more Windows/Chrome users than Linux/Firefox/Brave users out there. That's visible by eye. It is also obvious that there are much less Monero users than Bitcoin users. People just prefer to be sheep.

Spitting facts bro...

I don't think Bitcoin will have any utility in the future, why, because it's not fit for purpose. It's too slow, the fees are too expensive, it does not scale well, there are other problems as well. Once the pyramid scheme ends, better crypto's will take over.

it will at least have nostalgia/collecter value. we have to give it that, at least Wink
