1  Bitcoin / Press / [2014-06-25] CD: Underfunding is Leaving Bitcoin Development in Crisis on: June 27, 2014, 02:22:58 PM
"Acclaimed bitcoinj developer Mike Hearn has expressed his concerns over the apparent lack of progress in the development of the bitcoin protocol.

In an audio interview with Epicenter Bitcoin, Hearn indicated that there are simply no incentives for developers to spend time and effort on basic development, and that the bitcoin protocol is already suffering as a result"

Read more: http://www.coindesk.com/mike-hearn-underfunding-leaving-bitcoin-development-crisis/

I've started a thread in the development section asking about this as well:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=667926.msg7547319

And it's been going on for a while.. older article from February:

2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Is funding a development team really that difficult? on: June 27, 2014, 02:13:07 PM
http://www.coindesk.com/mike-hearn-underfunding-leaving-bitcoin-development-crisis/

"I’ve been very worried for a long time that the core bitcoin system is radically underfunded and underdeveloped from where it needs to be."

If what Mike Hearn says is true, and I see no reason why it wouldn't be, than there's almost no development going on with Bitcoin anymore.
We're almost at a complete stand still. Only really Gavin doing anything meaningful.

In Mike's own words, it's a bit of a crisis. And he's not the only one... devs have been worried for a long time. This article is from February:
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-core-development-falling-behind-warns-mike-hearn/

Why, why, why isn't anyone stepping in to fund development? Where are the Winklevoss, Branson, anyone!
Don't they have any interest in protecting their investment? Or are they completely clueless as to the current state of things?

From the above article: "It would help if some of them gave something back, complains Garzik. “In general, I am disappointed at the large number of bitcoin companies that contribute nothing back to the original open source project, the software that runs the network we all use."

In the meantime, second gen alts are being more actively worked on than Bitcoin. How in the world is it possible for Bitcoin to be at a near stand still while much smaller players are hard at work improving their protocols? Do they have more resources? A better, more engaged community? What?

I just logged in on stamp. No problem.

My sloppily drawn chart. Two more legs to go?

It would seem like I was correct in my analysis. Sorry for not including the price to the right, but the C at the end was $620.. which we passed a bit down to $613 I think, but whatever. Close enough.

This would now put us in the fourth wave of this rally. The question is; how high will we go? Unless these two remaining waves are steeper than the previous ones, I don't see us hitting a new ATH. Maybe $850-900.

If they are steeper though.. all bets are off.

My thoughts. Two more legs to go. (I know it's sloppily drawn)

Seriously, I don't care if he's just an internet tough guy that would never do anything.
I STILL think you should notify the police. Threats are threats, and if something does happen to you, and he's already in their system for threatening you; he'll be the prime suspect immediately.

Just broke out of triangle on the 4 and 8 hour, as well as the Willy channel on the 4 hour.

4 hour chart (top indicator is Williams R% set to 21, then MACD, and OBV):

I'm pretty much just starting to grasp TA myself, but I can really recommend following people on tradingview and trying to replicate their charts.
I learn by seeing and doing, so applying the TA of others and seeing the results help a lot.

yes, this can help. however, be careful not to go blindly on the TA of others. it is very easy to miss a projection, and then it is up to you to adapt to the market. i think some people look at another person's chart, thinks "that's plausible", then when a prediction or formation gets invalidated, they don't realize it.

Yeah, absolutely. I find my self both agreeing and disagreeing with people I follow, which is good. That means I'm thinking logically and going deeper into the meaning of their analysis. If I was just looking at a bullish scenario and applying my emotions to it, believing that it sounds plausible because I want it to go up, that would be very bad and could lead me to lose it all.

I've learned that you have to be willing to adapt to changes when you see them. My first chart had a channel leading up to $621.. then we broke out of it. I really had to trust in my ability to understand what was going on then and change my strategy.

Part of that 600 BTC on stamp sold into mine. Made me go "whoa".
Someon put up a big wall at $568. I placed mine at $568.01.

5 seconds later: both gone in one fell swoop.

Any comment on this email from DO support? I've never used a VPS for mining before so I don't know how accurate their statement is:

"Please understand that due to the nature of cloud computing, mining even CPU currencies is rather inefficient- simply due to how virtualization makes use of the CPU cycles."

Just how inefficient is it, and what is the purpose of using DO for CPU mining? Is it to just have more computing power over what you can get at home? How does it compare to just mining on Windows at home?

My amateurish take on technical analysis. Am I doing it right?
https://i.imgur.com/QbsPp6D.png

Based on the above, I either think we will complete the fifth wave at around $621 and then retrace all of them, or we'll continue in the channel and go to the moon.

The green marker on the modified William's R% is where I bought during the dip. The yellow is my "don't do a damn thing" area. Above that I sell, below it I buy.

The author of that report has some wishful thinking.

Or you do. Time will tell I guess.
He did mention in the report that he waited to release it until now because he didn't want to collapse the price even more.. now that we're moving up naturally, it was safer.

we don't need bots, we don't need gox.

hopefully. fingers crossed etc.

Any theory about a July rally because of the 234 days goes out the door. No longer valid.

So?

If people are expecting a July rally and pre-emptively buying... but there is no July rally. Down we go.

So if you were wondering how Bitcoin suddenly appreciated in value by a factor of 10 within the span of one month, well, this is why. Not Chinese investors, not the Silkroad bust – these events may have contributed, but they certainly were not the main reason.

If this was the cause of the last 2 rallies, and the 234 days between them.. where does that leave us?
Makes me question if we will have another parabolic rise. Not that I would mind slow and steady appreciation either.

I'll give you a free bump. This is the kind of information that can really shake the bitcoin world. It needs to be read.. and spread.
I think you should post it to r/bitcoin on reddit if you haven't already.

Thanks, bud.

I like Reddit, but I'm not a strong poster over there with my account having a similar name: PhinnaeusGage.

I'm more than happy to chime in there if something Bitcoin related is brought to my attention.

The reason I suggested posting this to reddit as well was simply because I'm not sure all of the people there frequent these boards.
It's a different crowd, that's all. They may never see this thread.
