too overpriced but keeping on eye on them

I would say it is not dead at all. Yes... you may earn less per day than before but the crypto-community is always coming up with an innovative way to use old/previous mining equipment. In this case when ASIC's come out GPU's will have to find another niche to grow.... and they will. No other industry, at least to my knowledge, has the type of innovation that the crypto-community does so I wouldn't worry!

Very nice! What's the price tag? And what could you possibly mine with it? I have an R9 290 barely keeping up with difficulties.

500w TDP, $1500 , no thanks xD Probably 2 mh/s, but it's not cost-effective IMO.

Agreed. Unfortunately by the time these are readily available some of the Scrypt ASICS may be out and if you are looking at $1500 for a GPU running roughly 2Mh/s or right around that price range for lets say an Alpha-T Viper 16Mh/s unit that will be pulling an estimated half the power of the estimated power of the new AMD 295x5 haha then to me the dollas' don't make no sense

DrCharles

you forgot that vga can mine everything, asic cannot, but they are still too overpriced at that price, should be 1K+

1k would probably site a little better with me too but even then... as far as mining in the coming months I don't think it will be a viable option... yes there are ASIC "resistant" coins that powerful GPU's could fold onto but that's only until there is enough interest/capital created to be worth the risk to invest in ASIC for that particular algorithm..

Either way I would like to get my hands on one to play around with at the very minimum

That is gorgeous haha
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What PSU for (4) Gigabyte R9 280x Rev2 Gpu's? on: April 08, 2014, 04:44:12 PM
Thanks for the replies. I have my 4th card now as well as some gridseed asics that I am itching to hook up but I do not have the watt meter yet so your responses have helped. I may just get the second PSU to be sure, I do not want to overload or keep the Corsair at max load. This is really the first rig I have been building myself but I have been lurking on [Suspicious link removed]ince probably late 2010 or early 2011 and this is the first time ive posted haha

Does anyone have a rig similar... 4 Gigabyte R9 280X Rev2 GPU's on a single power AX1200i PSU that is working and they can post a picture of or some stats? I would like to see what some of my fellow GPU miners are using.

Thanks again,

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What PSU for (4) Gigabyte R9 280x Rev2 Gpu's? on: April 03, 2014, 05:44:20 PM
Hello Everyone,

This is the rig I am building, I have 3 280x's right now and a 4th on the way. I plan on going to 5 or six possibly with 2 PSU's but that's another topic.

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard
AMD Sempron 145 Processor (SDX145HBGMBOX)
Corsair AX1200i- Platinum Rated PSU
8GB RAM
Running on Ubuntu 13.10 (Linux)
Non-powered risers

Now... I have not undervolted any of the GPU's yet so they are all currently sitting at the stock 1.2V

I was wondering if I would be able to run a 4th card on that same AX1200i without undervolting the cards... and how safe that would be because I know it would have to be close to max load. I have ordered a watt meter so I can see exactly how many watts im pulling at the wall but that is not here yet either. any help would but greatly appreciated and I will also provide discounts or extra time on renting my rig when we its done at https://www.betarigs.com/rig/3841 if you want haha

I will need help in the future on how to undervolt these suckers too so I will be open to any help possible.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!
-DrCharles
