A few pokes at the drive later and I was cloning it and doing an RMA. You should be able to recover a wallet if you have any valid backup of it, correct? If it's a windows machine you may have "previous versions" of the file, even if you don't have any good real backups. Spinrite is also worth it even if you don't normally try to repair your own computers.

RAM usage has been low up to this point so I only had 4GB allocated. I set it to 8GB and it's fine now using 78%.
